RED faces at the FIM ... it would seem that the sport's governing body are powerless to prevent Emil Sayfutdinov riding for Russia in the SWC race-off at Gorzow tomorrow despite their protestations to the contrary.

Apparently there is no actual evidence that Sayfutdinov declined to ride at King's Lynn on Monday and that his complaints about payments, etc, etc do not constitute a formal refusal to participate especially as the Russian federation say ultimately they simply did not pick him!

Without any paper trail supporting the FIM's case and the Russian federation's position it would appear to leave the way clear for Emil to return.

As a fan and a spectator, that's great news and will greatly add to the competitiveness of the race-off, especially with Grigory Laguta riding as well. But as for the authority of the FIM? Well, that's another matter.

Shocking but ultimately not unsuprising that a bus can be driven through the rule book. Makes the SWC a farce to be honest. Tai shuld have allowed Topinka second and it would probably have kncked the Russians out, deservedly so considering considering how Saifudinov treated the fans in the UK with such contempt.

As for the meeting, it makes it more fun, but I hope that anyone other than the Russians makes the final.

The "48" following BrandonBee was the year i was taken to my first meeting at the age of 4. Speedway is THE most wonderful of sports, but it has NEVER been well governed at any level, at any time. Expediency ALWAYS trumps the "rules" i'm afraid. This is just the latest example. I agree with every word you say and think Thursday will now be a cracking meeting.

Kindest regards. Alan.

Gave up on any form of competent management of speedway years ago.Internationally the majority of FIM delegates give the impression of being clueless about the sport and just taking advantage of being able to enjoy subsidised breaks at whichever event takes their fancy. As for domestically a minority seem to feel they can manipulate anything to their benefit and sod the rest of you.Speedway has everything going for it in that it is an exciting, family friendly sport just made for media coverage due to the fact that riders are approachable and the action is contained in a stadium which focuses attention and fosters atmosphere.Grand Prix and World Cup events are proffesionally run and attract good crowds proving that if you have your house in order you can sell your product but from there it all falls away steeply.Improve tracks, appoint an independent manage(r/ment)to ensure rules are fair and adhered to in the intended spirit and get somebody in who will at least try and find sponsors for the leagues and finally, and maybe most crucially, give support to anyone who comes up with a valid blueprint for the training of younger riders for the future in british speedway.

well theres a suprise :P

ok so if the FIM are powerless to stop it and there is no paper trail.... as fans we can expect to be notified before next season of how the FIM have rectified this to make sure it is impossible to happen in the future... can't we?

Glad that Russia are at some semblence of full strength but unhappy that the sport is looking tin pot again (how much did IMG pay the FIM last year again? was it 1 Million?)

Fantastic news! Stuff the rules, breaking them is a common enough thing in speedway anyway, ask the Bspa! Lol. Now we can look forward to watching THE most popular rider in the sport today.

P.S. KKs does it again!

Great news and who cares if the FIM end up looking like idiots.

They are idiots.

SWC has never looked that proffesional anyway and lets not forget the only other 'sport' that plays 'Jokers' was called 'It's A Knockout' and that was hardly proffesionally run.

The whole structure of the sport is frankly laughable anyway.

All I want to see is good riders competing for the world cup and could not care less if the sports top knobs look powerless.

Speedway rules have never been that sensible anyway with the most glaring example being the rule or non rule governing what happens at the first bend of a race.

The Emil situation is no more farcial than usual for speedway and if a bunch of pointless clowns had kept him out of the race off it would be the fans who would suffer as well as the sport.

Excellent news both on Emil and the FIM looking like the clowns they are :cheers:

On Saturday they said on SKY if teams tied it'd be down to race wins. Why would there be a run off between Czech and Russia had they tied?

Yes, there would have been a run-off for third; don't believe everything that is said on the Sky coverage.

Would have been Lukas Dryml v Roman Povazhny in all probability. Lukas would won either won or fallen off.

I still don't understand why Woffinden wasn't instructed to stay behind Topinka.

All the best

Rob

Internationally the majority of FIM delegates give the impression of being clueless about the sport and just taking advantage of being able to enjoy subsidised breaks at whichever event takes their fancy.

As with all these sorts of bodies, some delegates will be clueful and even hard-working, whilst others will just be in it for the jollies. I guess the main problem with the FIM though, is that track racing falls a long way down the list of priorities; behind the likes of MotoGP and Superbikes

Grand Prix and World Cup events are proffesionally run and attract good crowds proving that if you have your house in order you can sell your product but from there it all falls away steeply.

Only compared to the rest of the sport, which does not set the bar very high. The SGP and SWC still seem to have failed to capitalise on the corporate market in the way that other motorsport disciplines have. For example, the list of sponsors remains distinctly minor league, and whilst we'll no doubt be told they're actually paying loads of money, it doesn't really matter if they are as little of it accrues to speedway itself. The FIM sold the golden (or at least the bronze) goose for a relative handful of beans, and the sport itself doesn't even get any of those.
