emerald tyke
I'm assuming you're talking about "Knappy" rider for Bradford Northern/Barons of the 70's?? I was a wednesday night regular on the terraces at Odsal and can remember with fondness his riding skills. Would love to see him miss the start to come picking his way through the field to get 1st...ah!! Also "The Olympiad" where riders would be handicapped as a result of previous finishing position and he could even pass from 30yds handicap start!! A unmissable figure in his mustard coloured leathers. Would be interested in what/where he is now...think he used to have a business in Eccles when riding at Bradford. have "The Olympiad" programme from 1971...came 2nd,+20 came 1st,+30 came 1st,+30 came 2nd,+20 came 1st....won the meeting on 13pts!! GO Knappy go!!! Edited July 7, 2011 by emerald tyke
The White Knight
I remember Alan in his spectacles - I think he was the first Rider I had seen who rode Speedway wearing glasses. A very good Rider as I remember as was his fellow Heat Leader Dave Baugh. Both rode well at Sunderland for Bradford.

Dave Baugh won the Northern Star Championship Trophy twice at Sunderland in 1971 and 1972, he also guested for us, which proves he liked the small tracks as well as the big Odsal bowl. Happy days eh! FAST GATER
One thing I remember was the clutch side of his handle bars had about two inches cut off ,I assume this was because he found it easier in the turns can't think of any other reason .
