Hackney V Newport Nl

The Hawks should be at full strength for this match but the Hornets won't be a easy pushover.

The Hornets – Championship Play-Off Finalists last year – include the duo that finished as runners-up in the recent League Best Pairs Championship. Former Somerset , Birmingham and Edinburgh man Jay Herne was nearly a 2010 Rocket until being over-ruled as a late season replacement for Robbie Kessler. The 2009 Bronze Helmet meeting winner, he also finished third in that season’s NLRC. Best Pairs colleague Todd Kurtz, meanwhile, is also a five point Wasp in the Premier League.

There are no less than four Newport-born riders in the Hornets’ line-up – Tom Young, Jamie White-Williams, David Gough and Richard Andrews. The latter is enjoying a major jump on last season’s 3 point average with Weymouth , already posting high scores of paid 11 against both Buxton and the Isle of Wight , and will feature in the forthcoming British U-19 Championship at Rye House on July 23rd. The Welsh side is rounded off by Matt Bates, who was previously a National Trophy winner with Plymouth.

Will the Hawks have a new riding order due to the new July Greensheet? Wouldn't be suprised to see Ben Morley move up from reserve having now gained an average, possibly moving into the Number 1 posistion.Hopwood or Owen to reserve i would presume

Richard Andrews is not Newport born. He's a Devon lad like Matt Bates.

Just seen the NL Averages link on this forum which does have Ben Morley at 1 and Marc Owen at reserve. Very suprised to see how low Brandons average is.

Is there anyone going to this meeting who would be able to text updates to the updates site? If so, could you please either leave a message here or send me an email or pm.

Thanks

I've been informed that these averages are not correct, as they include riders bonus points.

Was talking to Ben & his dad today, who said that his actual average is about 6.90 and that he will be rider as the Hawks No.2

Bit harsh hooversquash. Not that bad a crowd for NL.

Newport very very poor herne and to a lesser degree Bates aside.

Good night for the Hawks. Masons contributions still seem to go unnoticed. Freemantle really mixing it. Morley maybe on new machinery looking much quicker.

To be honest only a poor night for Shane stopping this being even worse. I think he was in front of two of his rides when he fell.

Well done boys.

I cant help thinking the crowd for these fixtures is being affected at least in part by the negative comments on this forum.

You may be right about the negative comments affecting crowd levels Rocket, but I very much doubt it. It's all down to the high admission price I would imagine. I got in to see Peterborough v King's Lynn (EL) last Monday for the same price, so I would think that sums up why people aren't attending. Bloody shame, because the National League is excellent stuff.

I attended this meeting (my first meeting at Rye this year) and for me I enjoyed seeing the Hawk racing bib flying around the track again. All the team rode with conviction and were up for it from the off but I must say that Ben Hopwood caught my eye and he looked like he was enjoying his racing. Barrie Evans is well dialed into the track and in a class of his own last night and David Mason I agree did seem to go unnoticed until I added up his score at the end of the match to see that he had 11+3 from 5.

Gripes well I have a few

£12 entry I feel to much for this level of racing and I think it does affect the crowd level, reduce the cost and I feel there is a good chance of increasing the people through the gate.

Sort out the track the state of the safety fence on the exit of bend two and this coupled with the fact that thre are railings placed on the dog track to stop people standing in this area shows that there is a problem with this part of the track.

The amount of time the tractor is on the track grading and watering why can they not have two tractors going around, god knows how many laps it done last night but I bet it was more than the riders did.

And finaly no fish at the fish bar at all last night, plenty of pies as long as you didnt want steak and kidney ones.

Its not all moans honest as I did enjoy the racing last night but it did seen long and drawn out at times.

Sorry there is so much doom and gloom, but it, is getting a bit boring, those who moan, seem to still keep going, if its so bad why do you bother?

Couple of good races yesterday, Darrie was a class apart and Brandon, Ben M and Ben H, along with Marc all showed improvement against average opposition, although Tom Young rode his socks off for little reward. heat 14 was excellent with Brandon holding off the challenge from Young only for owen to ###### 2nd on the line.

Lots of points thrown away by the Hawks, Morley, Hazeleden, Freemantle and owen all doing this at some time.

Some rolling starts were picked up and some werent, probably best or we'd still be there now.

The poor points were the amount of tractor time I agree, but at least the dust was kept down.

The dvd is edited and ready and can be ordered from the T2TV website, or coolected at the track next Saturday.

Mason has certainly done a lot better than expected this season, fair play to him for that.

Spot on, it's nothing to do with this forum, it's the fact it's too expensive why people stay away from these meetings and it is a real shame as the National League is a great product.

Sort out the track the state of the safety fence on the exit of bend two and this coupled with the fact that thre are railings placed on the dog track to stop people standing in this area shows that there is a problem with this part of the track.

The railings go all around the track and they stop fans going right up to the safety fence, there's nothing wrong with the track, it's a regulation that has to be fulfilled.

The amount of time the tractor is on the track grading and watering why can they not have two tractors going around, god knows how many laps it done last night but I bet it was more than the riders did.

Watering is always an issue at Rye, the track never seems to get the pre-meeting watering to keep the dust at bay that it needs, so the grading during the meeting is drawn out and nothing kills the atmosphere more than watching tractors go round for 10 minutes at a time every 2 heats. As for the Pies, Steak and Kidney is horrible

£12 at Lakeside for the meeting against Dudley and it was a really good crowd, so I'm not sure if that theory is correct. Will be interesting to see what the crowd is like this Friday [at Lakeside 8pm start] against Isle of Wight.

Track, well there's a exclusion zone all the way around the track and its better the rider gets up and walks away isn't it? Should those couple of incidents happed at other tracks with solid fences, would the out come have been the same, I fear not.

A very interesting artical[3rd press release down] about the Rye House track and how Len is trying to over come the problems. See the link below

I enjoyed last nights match and the score didn't do justice to the racing, well done Hawks!

Paul.... I was taxing my brain trying to think what could help pass the time for fans on the terraces whilst track watering / grading was going on and then it came to me! You sir were one of the original members of "The Kestrelettes" at Waterden Rd so how about springing back as "The Hawkettes" asap?:lol:

Popped into the stadium after a visit to Sainsburys to pick up some butter. Watched two heats and decided the butter was more important than swelling the 99+ crowd that had bothered to turn up & pay through the nose for some very average speedway. -_-

I was told there were between 150-200 people on the terraces last night, not good considering there was nothing on TV, apart from the boxing and no GP to be up against... How many would there be without the hordes of Hackney fans that have suddenly decided to show up now that the Cobras are riding under a different name with a change of race bibs?

How about bringing back the Raiders/Cobras asap?

With the greatest respect Shadders, do you honestly think that a name change for the team would not only convince the Rye House management that it could be viable to stage a full programme of NL racing in addition to their PL commitments (assuming they could fit two complete league programmes into their calendar in 2012) but would also see hundreds upon hundreds of speedway fans flocking to the NL matches? Three words spring to mind alas those being cuckoo, land and cloud!
