poona
G'day all, just got back from the Gold Coast, I thought the 1st round was an absolute thumper on track except the grading, got in to look at the track @ 7am sat & straight away I knew the kids (3 & 4) would'nt be able to come to the meet (not child friendly like gosford).Got there a bit late 6.30pm & jagged a good pos in the stand. Didnt get to meet any of you. Maybe tonight or next week in mildura. Anyways, I've only just got enough time for a SSS, then i'm off to gosford. Hooroo.... Guest Sir Lunchalot
Sunday afternoon here and I just got home. Where do I start !! Â First off it was great to catch up with Ozyace and Poona (and Bryn as usual but I see him everywhere). Ozy looks unbelievably good in an orange KTM shirt, I think it's his colour . Thanks for the Johnno poster too Ozy !! Â As for the meeting it started off slowly and got better and better and better. There had been heavy rain the night before and apparently when the track staff arrived the track was just about under water. They managed to get the track sorted for practice and I did hear towards the end dust was starting to become a problem. It was a hot afternoon and very humid and that meant they put more water on the track anticipating that it would be needed. However the elements conspired against them and a cool change came through which meant the track didn't dry out as much as they thought it would. For the first round of heats the track was very heavy and grippy and you could see the riders fighting their bikes in the turns. Scott Smith was running last in his first ride and looked like he had to slow because he couldn't see. Â After the first rides (4 heats) a lot of riders appeared from the pit gate with much arm waving and gesturing and pointing at the track. Not quite sure what was said but they didn't look happy. One of the complaints must have been they couldn't distinguish where the track finished and the fence started on turn 1 and 2 because of the wet dirt sticking to the fence so a bit of time was taken cleaning the fence. Â Anyway the track improved after that and towards the end the racing was fantastic on as good a track as you would want to see. In his last heat Travis McGowan from an outside gate just kept the power on round the outside and went through a gap between rider and fence on the back straight to take the lead. He also put in a blinder in the run off to decide the last place for the A final in beating Lyons and Johnston from the outside gate. Stirring stuff indeed. Â The B final was worth the admission money on its own. It was rerun after Rory Schlein overcooked it trying to go round the outside on turn 3 / 4. Johnno gated in first but Jason Lyons was all over him like an old fashioned nightshirt and finally got past on lap 4. Johnno had another go at the line but a last minute dive just failed. While all that was happening John Jorgensen was only feet behind in third. Â The only downside was an injury to Scott Smith who got squeezed for room on the back straight and hit the fence at speed. From where I was standing it was hard to tell if he tried for a gap that wasn't quite there or the rider in front drifted into his line. Amazingly he came out for his next ride but wasn't able to complete the four laps and ended up with a trip to the local hospital for a check up. I later heard he is ok. Â A word on Todd Wiltshire, I don't know why but he must love Gosford. His gating was out of this world and it didn't seem to matter which gate he got he always seemed to get to turn 1 first. Â All in all a great night. Roll on Mildura !!!
gms
does any one have a points standing going into last meeting
Guest Sir Lunchalot
They are using a funny 20,18,17,16,15,14,13,12,11,10,9,7,6,4,3,2 scoring system (I don't know why either). I'm told it's the format / scoring the GP's will be using. Â By my calculations the point scores follow. For positions 9 to 16 at Gosford I'm not sure how they are separating ties and I have made an educated guess so don't take this as total gospel. The overall picture is Adams has to win at Mildura and Sullivan finish 4th for a tie. On form I can't see Sullivan doing worse than second at Mildura unless he has major machine problems so Ryan has to be a fairly warm favourite for the title. Â 40 - Sullivan 36 - Adams 33 - Wiltshire 30 - Jorgensen 30 - Lyons 29 - McGowan 25 - Lemon 24 - Johnston 23 - Schlein 22 - Doolan 13 - Smith 13 - Jones 11 - Harrison 7 - Booth 6 - Leverington 6 - Shields 6 - Hedley
Ozyace
I'm havin a hoot i'll bring you all up to date when i get back to Perth. Mildura is brilliant, staying at the Books (earlier posts) but last night stayed on Pooles new signing JL's (where were ya Addy) houseboat, what a hoot! Anyway it was great to see Lunchy, Poona and after a 12 hour drive from Goosford to Sydney it was fantastic to see young Sammy Martin win the Aussie Pairs (U/16s) and to finally meet Marty.   I have drop this down a coupla lines for the benifet of the people who don't know Bryn and i bet there's not many. To me Bryn is the esscence of speedway, a man who all the riders respect, a man who's knowledge about speedway surpasses anybodys that i have known - bar none and a fellow who will listen to the most simplest of people (no - one really knows whats happening anyway) who ask a question on whats happening. Thanks Pal  To all the people i have met before and on this trip, be it Leighs immediate family, Lyonsy and the crew, Rodney Colquorn, Warren Levy and the girls, everyone has been top drawer. Cheers and thanks.  People like us make the world go around. Edited January 21, 2004 by Ozyace

Tony
Does anyone know the reason Lee Herne isn't riding? Bryn?
Main Man
Having been staying with the Hernes whilst over the main reason (and for that of the likes of Watto) is finance as it would have cost them money (and lots of it) to ride without any real rewards. Lee and Watto were due to race in Ivan's Long Track meeting last Saturday but it was called off after floods in NSW meant the bikes couldn't get out to them after they'd flown out. I'm blushing like crazy here Ozi Ace!  Thanks for the kind words and it was certainly good to meet up with you as it was Big 'n Beefy and all the other Aussie listees I've met up with.  Glad you're having a ball in Mildura and I'll see you there on Saturday.  Now, one thing, a certain WA rider told me that the "world speedway waterski championships" were due to take place sometime this week up there in Mildura....er did they go ahead? Or did other 'distractions' get in the way????
Guest Sir Lunchalot
........ and it was certainly good to meet up with you as it was Big 'n Beefy and all the other Aussie listees I've met up with. Â Bryn, don't tell me I missed one !! I know Big'n Beefy was at Labrador but I didn't manage to catch up with him. You manage to meet more people than I have had hot dinners !! Â And I think the world championship waterski contest was being held in one of the lunch time breaks of the seven day world story telling contest (I'm not even going to mention the world lubricating the tonsils contest).
