Aussie
Just got home from the Gold Coast after the 1st round of the Australian Championship. Ryan Sullivan won the final ahead of Leigh Adams, John Jorgenson and Todd Wiltshire. Ryan was the quickest rider on the night breaking the track record in his first race. I'm sure one of the other guys will be able to fill everyone in with all the points as they had run out of programmes by the time I got there. All in all a good nights racing in front of a fairly big crowd. Great to see the best riders back in Oz.

gooner_girl4eva
Good for the Aussie public to have some of their top riders in the world racing, sounds like a great meeting. How many meetings does Toddy have left until he officially retires?
Trackman
Trackman has already posted the A & B finals Sorry M'duck! that was the best I could do at 2.30am after 4 Jim Beams @ the speedway! I did get a little dizzy watching the tractor going round & round & round! a 40 foot wide track!... needs more than a 5 foot wide blade though I think! Regards. ps. Congratulations to all at Labrador Speedway, it was a top night!!! pity they ran out of food by heat 4, thats Proof it was a full house, and the rest ... Long Track next week! (hope the head is ok by then)!!! Regards.
BrizHeathen
A very good night of fast racing. Todd Wiltshire was unlucky in the final, gate four had been terrible all night and Wiltshire managed to round his opponents against all the odds before Adams came down on the first turn. With all four back Todd only got away third in the re run and was eventually over taken by John Jorgensen on the last lap to claim fourth on the night. Not much to choose between Adams and Sullivan, but Adams had a poorer start to the meeting with a third in heat three, he was on the outside gate position when up against Sullivan and Wiltshire. Then in his next ride he was on gate three and was beaten by Jason Lyons, he then remained unbeaten until the final. A quick mention for Mark Lemon who had a good night, he tied with Wiltshire on 11 points but could only make the B Final because Todd had beaten him when they met in heat 14. A very big crowd, probably the biggest ever at this venue. Rain threatened all night, we did have one down pour mid way through the meeting but it had no effect on the racing, it was a very warm humid evening. Met all the usual suspects, including Bryn (finally), Sir Lunchalot, Ron Malm, Peter Baker and the usual Labrador mob, we were sat on the back row of the stand nearest the start line. Yes a very well run event but to run out of food and water so early on is pretty poor really, the big crowd was expected and I did notice plenty of extra booze being carted in throughout the night, a few people were very dissapointed with that. A decent souvenir programme would of made the club a few extra quid too. Thats my whinge over, it was a good night, just a couple of things that would of made it better for some people. Silly Bugger's!....HikUP! reGArdS, pS. Was that Bryn I seen sleeping in the water cart at 1am?, I didn't look, was aiming for the front wheel at the time I see Prawn was upset! He was too small for most of the rides at Dreamworld.... HikUUUP!

Guest Sir Lunchalot
Just got home tired but happy. Terrific nights racing and if that's the standard of racing for the other two rounds I'll be well pleased. I would have loved to know the crowd figure, the place looked packed to me. All three stands looked pretty full and the crowd were standing four or five deep near the fence in some spots. I'm not surprised they ran out of food and drink, it would have been a nightmare trying to estimate how many might have turned up. Great little set up at Labrador and I was impressed by the condition of the track. Also lovely to meet BrizHeathen and the others and share a good night. Where were you standing Trackman ? I was lucky as I had Bryn on one side and Christian Henry's dad on the other. The Schlein fan club were just in front (and along a bit) from where we were and they had lots to shout about in heat 1 but not much to yell about after that. And no one talk to me about Queensland weather !! Went for a wander around Surfers Paradise today (Sunday) and got caught not once but twice by sudden heavy showers. Then common sense took over and I finished up in O'Malleys pub drinking Guinness whilst overlooking the beach and ocean

(that took me back 25 years) Sorry Trackman !! I had seen the posts on here and the agreed meet up spot was to be a) early, and ' in the top row of the stand nearest the start / finish. I got there sometime after 5 pm and the place was quite full even then. I have no idea how I could have found someone I knew in the crowd later on closer to kick off time let alone trying to find someone I didn't know. As for Sunday that was my bad, I should have thought sooner and let you know. I'm a great one for "get up and see what the day's like then decide what to do" and I didn't know till after I got up whether I was going to head up to Brisbane for the day or stay on the coast. The bus for Surfers came long first so that's where I ended up !! Next year mate.

Strewth, you guys take the biscuit, even a pom could find you two in a crowd, or at least one that knows what you both look like ha ha. If you want me to introduce you to each other next year no worries I’ll do it for a VB. Plus my air fair of course. Aussie
M8 I was on turn 1 under the big tree! Trackman, I must have been standing right next to you. I was standing on the tyres under the big tree on turn 1 with my 2 boys. As Sir Lunchalot said Mark Lemon was impressive the other night but I thought Johno would have gone better. G/Day Aussie Bignbeefys lady was having trouble with her shoes, they fell on the floor and being the gent I am, I walked over and put them together at the bottom of the tyres. Can you remember seeing that?... she's a small lassy, spoke in a broad northern accent I was speaking to her in a yorkshire accent I had a black shirt on with green inserts under the arms, most of the racing I was in front of the speaker just to the right of you. Regards. PS. Are you going to Ivan's Longtrack meeting?
Guest Sir Lunchalot
Did johno have an off nite?? or was it all the travelling from perth?? Don't know what happened to Johno but he didn't seem to be at the races. I would have expected him to get to the B final but it was "one of those nights" for him I'm afraid. Strange really as he looked to be thoroughly enjoying himself (till he got excluded for 2 minutes that is) and riding well at the Oz GP in top company in late 2002. Perhaps it might be down to not expecting to do well at the GP and riding well with no pressure, yet expecting to do well at the Oz titles and coming unstuck on the night. Maybe he had the best part of a week of sitting in the car from Perth with nothing else to do than think of the titles and had mentally peaked too early. If you think Johno had a bad night then spare a thought for Rusty Harrison, the meeting would have been close to his worst nightmare even coming off in one race. An earlier post mentioned me talking about Mark Lemon which I hadn't so I'll fix that now !! I'm revising my opinion on him, he is a rider who always seems to do a bit better than I expect. Not flashy but doesn't do a lot wrong and can be "sneaky quick" without appearing to be that fast.
