topaz325
With Nicholls crying off, now is the time for both sides to swallow a bit of pride and get Richardson back in the team for Thursday. I notice that all the riders (and the team manager, horrid idea) had their own sponsors on their racesuits, which was the main sticking point for Richardson, and if there's to be any chance of success on Thursday, we need him! Crying off, Scott Nicholls may have a very valid reason for missing the weekend (personal family reason?)too many people jump on a rider for putting family before the sport. jammag
Was at the meeting last night and watched a bit of it on tv when I got home last night. People moaned on here about Tai calling the Drymels sisters, how ever sky failed to show that after Tais 2nd exclusion one of them came out and ran at Tai as he was riding his bike back in and obviously said something. You can here the crowd in the background giving it the ooooooohhhhsssss. Surprised sky didnt show that little incident. Poland were a class above tonight, they were flying out the gates it seemed for first half of the meeting.
spook
Poland were a class above tonight, they were flying out the gates it seemed for first half of the meeting. Â It seemed to me to be the primary and obvious difference last night. Â This period of dubious gating in the British team has stretched for too long..... it's great to see them come from behind but its not realistic to rely on that at international level...... how to bring about a new approach though? No , i think most of us who jumped in with our size nines whilst not being in full posession of the facts and making prats of ourselves , have since seen the error of our ways . Parsloes 1928 nearly
Why didn't the Brits and the Poles not just let the Czechs win heat 25? Â Well the Poles had NOTHING to gain by doing so and I can't really think that Team GB's situation in the play-off would be significantly eased by the Czechs being there instead of an albeit strengthened Russian side... Â I'm delighted the Russians got through as their performance last night I thought was remarakable. Almost everyone had totally written them off and I'm sure mostthought they'd struggle to get to double figures but the four riders put in a mighty effort. Though wasn't impressed with that number five, Nyet Riderski..!
ImpartialOne
Well said all three of you!! Â Going back to team GB, it's sad that that's the best team we can put out. I'm sure they'll try their best, but it's gonig to be an embarrassing whitewash.. Don't write them off just yet. I don't think the Swedes and Aussies are going to outclass GB. The Poles didn't exactly have it all their own way last night and they look stronger than Sweden and Oz to me.

TrueBee
Bomber 2 Gollob 0! I won't get to say that again so thought I'd get it in quickly lol. Â I enjoyed the meeting with some decent racing. I wouldn't have used Nicholls last night if he had no intention of racing in the rest of it and I have no qualms with his reason for being absence either. Our slow start cost us any realistic chance of winning.

Our captain the loveable Johno (whom Tai has spent a lot of time with)christened them the Dryml sisters and this has stuck as both the team and fans referred to them by this, it was not in malace but typically Johno! Bobby Garrad
Shocking from Woffy. He wipes someone out and THEN calls them a girl. Added to his girly strop after his first exclusion, he's made himself look a right prick. Â Do you know what it is like riding a speedway bike? Tai's emotions were obviously high as was his temper and to have a microphone shoved in your face when you are that wound up was only going to get the reaction it got (and what the TV production wanted) Â You have made a right pr1ck of yourself with that statement. Â Ah right I didnt know that. To be honest I dont follow speedway that much, watch main events and being from kings lynn I follow there results. Been to last 2 world cup meetings and the elite pairs, so I am not that knowledgeable about other things. Just thought I would mention what happened as no one else has and sky didnt show it. Love coming on here though to see the reaction of people there and not there. Very entertaining.
Authorised
Then you have probably missed some of the best speedway in the history of the sport as the race-off, more often than not has produced the best racing. Â Erm, I was talking about this year. I watched a few heats last night, and it was match races between two riders. Switched it off for final 7 heats. Don't get me wrong, match racing can be good. I used to like the Golden Helmet Same will happen on Thursday. I could see Russians challenging Brits for 3rd. If you think the race off on Thursday will provide the best speedway in the history of the sport then you need to watch more speedway. SCB
Its not unfair to say the first round has the worst racing. Poland vs Czech Rep and Denmark vs Germany is never likely to throw up any good races. Yet the Brits and Russians can get in the way a bit Thursday - well, if they gate that is - Oh, I see the problem now

No problem, just wanted to say there are a few riders that no them as the sisters and Ales and Lukas both are aware of this and its origin. It was well known at Oxford, and Johno has certainly referred to them as the sisters in commentary on Sky before this meeting, and Julia Bradbury asked the boys about it in an interview when she did the channel 4 program (shows how long ago that was!).  So Tai's comment may have not been meant the way some on here have taken it! Edited July 12, 2011 by Debbi

Paulco
Tai has previous for this behaviour in interviews though . In a televised PL meeting at Edinburgh , while guesting for Workington , he claimed a Monarchs rider had " rode like a girl " after the ref had excluded Tai for causing the Monarchs rider to come off . While that was pretty amusing , calling fellow riders girls , or women or sisters etc isn't really the most clever thing you can do and it shows a lack of respect for the opposition riders . Â Yes, and I have also known Johno to refer to himself and and Andreas Jonsson as the "Johnson Sisters" (or was it the "Jonsson Sisters") when they were in the same race, so it was typical Johno, able to make jokes about himself as well as others. Â When we, the fans, see these TV interviews we need to remember that they are speedway riders not TV announcers so they are likely to say things in the heat of the moment that they would probably choose to express more moderately if they had time to cool down and think about it. TV soundbites often make a riders attitude seem worse than it really is but we always have the usual suspects on here ready to pounce and condemn, which doesn't help. oldtimer
All the Sky team thought the track was in great order as did Mark Loram, my question therefore is,apart from Bombers races, why did such a good track produce such boring and processional racing? jellyman
my question therefore is,apart from Bombers races, why did such a good track produce such boring and processional racing? Â Because once a better rider gets his nose in front an inferior rider will struggle to pass them no matter how good the track is.
speedy den boy
Because once a better rider gets his nose in front an inferior rider will struggle to pass them no matter how good the track is. Harris beat Gollob Hampel beat Harris-I know some will say Hampel is better, and they may well be right but Hampel has never been the best to pass riders,so if he can do it im sure a lot of other riders were more then capable but it just never happened
