World Cup Final Venues

Recommended Posts

could someone please tell me out of interest why the speedway world cup race off/final venues are currently only being

alternated between denmark and poland?

i remember reading having the 2006 final but i cannot remember the last time sweden held such an event and i was just

wondering why that is.

i know olsen owning vojens gives that track a huge advantage selection wise but was it last year they held the

world cup final, the gp AND the gp challenge?

the events don't seem to be being shared as equally as they could be.

Sweden have never hosted race off/world final, someone once did tell me reason, can't remember why now.

Sharing it between Denmark & Poland as things stand ain't much of a surprise as they're the most competitive nations and pretty much guaranteed to make the final which intern guarantees good gates.

That's the only fear with Belle Vue being the venue in 2013 or 2014 for the race=off / final?? If the home nation isn't in it, will it sell?

totally understand the commercial reasoning behind the recent denmark/poland venues, but to be honest poland

are so strong at the moment they would qualify wherever the events were and the same would be said for a

full strength danish team, though i know a year or 2 back they struggled without hans and nicki.

as regards countries not wanting the final is that actually the case? not questioning you but i would have

thought most countries would want the final, are they really that much of a risk financially?

it's not a question of whether Denmark or Poland can qualify anywhere but whether the other nations could qualify for their home final. If it's in Denmark or Poland you're almost guaranteesd to have the home nation there but if its in Britain, Sweden or Russia it's not a safe bet.

Hence the reason it's never in Germany, Italy, Czecho, Slovenia, etc.

thats fair enough but its not ideal is it,going from 2005 poland will have had 4 of the last 7 finals.

still,i do understand the reasoning, would just prefer a more even spread.

Just an idea but would it work that the home nation automatically qualifies to the final.

Rounds 1 & 2 top team straight to the final

Race-off winners in the final.

That would allow for a bit more movement on were the World Cups can be staged????????

I'd rather see the four best teams in the final, rather than the three best teams plus the hosts.

Also, what happens when Germany, Italy, Slovenia or some other equally uncompetitive nation wants to host the final?

I imagine that the host nation or indeed hosting club have to pay a not unsubstantial amount to BSI for the honour of hosting the SWC. This in turn is recouped through ticket sales for the two meetings. Maybe the BSPA/British tracks don't want to risk Team GB not qualifying for the final and therefore losing their shirt through lack of ticket sales?

i've often wondered if part of the problem is the race off,i don't know what pricing incentives (if any) there are if you

attend both the race off and the final, but the attendances on the race off never seem too high imo.

personally i would prefer two semi finals, top two through and no race off as until russia improved recently there were

pretty much 3 meetings simply to eliminate one of poland, denmark,oz,sweden and gb.

Again, I'd guess it's a commercial decision. Having a race-off followed by the final at the same venue means you have two opportunities to recoup the costs.

Likewise, having only one nation qualifying from the semi-final into the final means there is more chance of the host nation riding in the race-off, which would significantly boost the crowd.

Tickets for the race-off are cheaper than the finals, but I can't remember (from the year it was in Reading) how much different.

Personally I think BSI have done an excellent job with the format of both the SWC and the GP.

yes they have, though i much prefer the gps,the swc is ( at best ) a two horse race right now, though i appreciate that is obviously

not bsi's fault!

Yes

race off and final in 2012 will be in Vetlanda (Sweden)

are you certain coz according to local news papers in Eskilstuna, th Eskilstuna track has been offered race off+ final for 2012.

Anyway i really hope it will Eskilstuna and not Vetlanda coz Eskilstuna provides much better racing then the ultraslick Vetlanda track.

either way it will make a nice change from poland or vojens. agree that eskilstuna would be my preferred choice

of the two,the few gps i remember there weren't too bad.

Instead of seeding the host nation to the final, I'd like to see them in the race-off. That would guarantee a decent crowd for that meeting. That way, even one of the smaller nations could stage the race-off and final of the SWC.

I remember in the days of the World team Cup Finals, Germany and Austria hosted some of these finals without their own teams ever riding in it. And they still got a good crowd.
