Another Quiz Question

This is a bit harder then the other 'a quick question' posed on this section.

Something happened at White City reopening challenge match, at home against Wimbledon, in 1976.

I have been too many speedway meetings in my time, but this 'thing' has never happened, at any other meeting I have been to.

So what happened in this meeting?

All 14 programmed riders turned up and there were no alterations to the written program? Thats never happened in any meeting I've been to!! or a 0-0 heat with no finishers?

I was there and just looked up my programme. The main thing I seem to have noted down at the time was that there were 19 losses of helmet covers during the evening.

That's indeed unusal but it's not the answer I want. The clue's in the progamme if you look at it carefully, and it has been fully completed.

I will post the answer I'm after later today, after the first Polish league match on the Internet has ended.

Had another look. The only other thing I can see is that nobody fell throughout the entire meeting.

P.S. and if Barry Crowson hadn't had engine failure in the last race all four riders would have finished in every race.

If you look at the heat times in the programme.

During the Challenge Match they were given out in tenths of a second to the crowd (71.6 for example), but in the second half they were given out in hundreds of a second (71.65 for example), this is the only time this has happened in a meeting that I have been to.

Maybe they changed time keeper, for the second half.

I did say that it was tricky, and that the clue was in the programme.

I wrote them in 1/100s as that's what I heard, at the time. I post them up after the Polish speedway match.

It was also my first Wimbledon away match, so it always stuck in my mind. And my second ever live speedway meeting.

Maybe that what I can remember even at the time I thought why was the time giving the time out in 1/000s.

Were you at the meeting Norbold?

It would be interesting if I have the only programme with 1/000s in the second half times, then maybe I was wrong, but it's such a strong memory though.

I never put 1/000s timings in any other programme that I have got.

No problem, Robbie. It would be interesting if anyone else does have a filled in programme.

Also, we've discovered that the meeting might have been unique anyway, what with 19 helmet covers coming off and all four riders finishing in every race but one, it was well worth looking at!

I doubt that with all of those helmet covers coming off, and with all four riders finishing record will ever be broken.

I was at the meeting and my programme is the same as Norbolds

Many thanks iris123 for the information.

My programme must be wrong then, why did I write the times down in 1/100s I don't know, but at least it's now been solved.
