Cardiff Gp Newbie

Recommended Posts

Hello,I hope someone can advise me,it will be my 1st time to Cardiff in a couple of weeks, looking at my travel options, the last train from Cardiff central leaves at 21.05,how far is the station from the stadium? Do you think all the racing will be over in time for me to catch this train(a bit of an open question i know,as I realise anything can happen to delay a meeting) Does anyone remember roughly what time the meeting has finished in the past? Just want to weigh up my travel options, don't really want to drive but don't want to miss any of the action either!

The train station isn't far from the stadium, I'd say allow about 10-15 minute walk. As the meeting now starts at 5pm you should have plenty of time to watch all the heats and catch the train. The meeting usually lasts about 3 hours or so.

I recall the metting last year finishing around 8.30pm, so I wouldn't hang around too long after the last heat.... The Cardiff Central Sation is in fact a mere 150m from the southern end of the stadium (3rd & 4th bends), so you could have a very short walk to the station... There may be queues at the station though, so if you're not a huge fan of fireworks I'd keep an eye on the time and make a quick departure before the rush for the exits. Also, if you're on one of the upper tiers you'll have to allow extra time to get out of the stadium... Enjoy :)

Will probably be catching last train to Swindon, which leaves at 21.30, change at Bristol Temple Meads. Have been in the stadium before when it has overun the 3 hours, and started at 5.30. As has been said the southern end is a lot closer to the station.

Me and the missus considered driving as we have done the previous few times, but last year we got stuck on the M4, and just made the start. Normally it's o.k, avoid driving through city centre traffic on way out. We head for Cardiff West/M4. You can park in side street if you're lucky. Or you can pay to park, designated car park, and shuttle bus is laid on. We have considered getting the supporters coach from Swindon as well.

Have a great time Gary, the atmosphere is something special. Go Scotty the Swindon/England flyer.

Does anyone know how much it will be to park? I'm hoping to make my first trip to Cardiff this year, if finances allow.

Dali - google map Herbert Street, Cardiff. You will see that there is a large all day car park there. It say £4.50 all day (it may have risen since pictures taken).

Its a short walk from the stadium and on a road where some of the hotels are. We pass it every year on our walk to and from the stadium.

You will then be able to turn left out of the car park and get on your way without much trouble.

Find a long stay pay and display and it's about £5 all day.

You may want to ignore Sandie, the car park closes at 6.30 and when theres and event on they hike up the price. ;)

Hey Brownie!!!

I'm sure he does know best but there were 2 car parks down that road and both were still open when we walked back from GP and I don't remember them being to expensive. As I remember the Newport lot parked in there - those that worked around the track for the day.

i park in the carpark on Herbert Street, the one nearest the stadium .. i think they charge about £8 all day, and they say they close about an hour after last race .. still a handy place to park, only a short walk

Bit they do hike the prices up :P And I'm informed they do normally close at 6:30, I guess thats their argument for hiking the price up, they stay open later.

I guess sometimes it is worth listening to Sandie :P
