SCB
Each country applies for the number of places they want and then someone at FIM towers allocates places based on the number of places requested and the countries standing. Lets be honest, we have 4 in the next round, who else do we have that would have got this far bearing in mind Tai is not an option as he failed to make last years GB final. Robbo, Bridger, Allen, Lanham...

Robbo, Bridger, Allen, Lanham... heh yeah don't worry I wasnt going to try to argue that we are on the same footing as the Poles in terms of quality ....... I guess I was just interested in how the powers come to a decision that one country can have 9 and another have 5....... and if it is based on performance then is it performance in the qualifiers themselves ... or overall? cheers
SCB
and if it is based on performance then is it performance in the qualifiers themselves ... or overall? It's the FIM, they do as they wish I can't answer that one sorry.
ImpartialOne
Has Andersen qualified? I thought it was the top 8 but looking at the updates it looks as if he's bracketed in with the qualifiers.

NathanB
Has Andersen qualified? I thought it was the top 8 but looking at the updates it looks as if he's bracketed in with the qualifiers. Its the top 9 from the 5 qualifiers who go through to the 3 semi finals Still leaves me wondering where the next 3 come from

His first competitive meeting, three months after a very nasty injury.. Go Hans Edited June 19, 2011 by Jacques
f-s-p
cheers makes you wonder though This probably doesn't look as good pasted here as it did on the excel sheet, but should give some idea. I think it all works out on the success of the federation, what do they have to back up the requests they make when the starting positions in each competition is given. And it works through the years, not just what happened last time. Except when your rider doesn't turn up, you are usually one slot short the next year. Below are the slots for this years GP quali's. 2011 2010 Requested Obtained FMNs 8 8 6 ACCR 5 5 5 ACU 1 2 2 AMA 6 7 5 AMZS 1 1 1 CMA 3 3 2 CAMOD 5 6 5 DMSB 8 8 8 DMU 1 2 1 FFM 0 0 FMB 4 4 4 FMI 3 5 4 FMU 2 2 2 HMS 0 2 2 KNMV 2 3 3 LaMSF 4 4 3 MA 2 2 2 MAMS 8 8 6 MFR 1 2 2 NMF 1 1 1 OeAMTC 1 1 1 SMF 9 10 9 PZM 1 3 2 SML 7 7 7 SVEMO 83 96
spook
thanks FSP that gives a better understanding..... although what is an FMN? apart from Emil's U21 success, i'm not sure what our Russian friends have been successful at.... so I wonder if the likes of Australia start asking for more... they will get them? If I am reading things right, and remembering my national federations correctly, Australia didn't even get what they asked for this year (although neither did Russia). I don't think the number of Russian's in the qualifiers is the biggest anomaly. They do have 2 riders in the SGP series this year and provided 3 of the riders in the SGP qualifying final last year, including the eventual winner. The Czech Republic receiving 6 places seems the most out of place to me. Considering Russia and Czech Republic both asked for 8 places, why are GB content with only 5? Why aren't we asking for more? Even Slovenia and Germany asked for more places than us!!

Ive been trying to work it out for a few days and there is only a couple of things that I can think of....... 1) We don't want to send what we perceive as inferior quality riders to represent us on the world stage.... or 2) It costs the powers that be money I'm willing to put all of my chips on the latter being the case...... if it is the former then we can add ego to our list of failings as there is always a chance that an Andy Smith or Zorro will shine...... In recent years it hasnt felt like there has been too much pride in representing GB and maybe opening up more places could encourage a bit more... let alone vital international experience edited: just seen Tomazpozrl's thread Edited June 23, 2011 by spook
