Let's buck the depressingly normal trend on here and be POSITIVE... There ARE people (serious people...) looking into options for the return of Speedway to the Lea Valley area of East London (yes I do effectively mean Olympic Park..) and I wish people could see that a successful 'Hackney' project this year, and hopefully next, COULD play a part in making that more likely... It certainly could only help... Whinging about no cod at Rye really ISN'T gonna help!!

Ben91
The problem is, those few Hackney fans who are happy to see their team back on track are outnumbered by the Rye fans who aren't happy to see their name lost to the league. There won't be any new Hackney fans coming through the gates either because 1) There is no promotion of the side and 2) the side races nowhere near Hackney. This is a forum for people to post their views, the 'moaning' is just that and the fact it outnumbers the people happy to be 'mugged off' shows that something is wrong. The side are not paving the way for a new Hackney team to return, it's to lighten the load of meetings at Rye and give Lakeside more fixtures whilst also developing riders for both sides. I am behind the Hawks for that point but if the team are not drawing fans in that can only harm the riders. It'd be better to fill a stadium at cheaper entrance prices then have a few old codgers, 15 year old girls looking to take the riders behind the pits and some tumbleweed at £12 a pop. Lesney Lea
Whinging about no cod, ok I have been put in my plaice. Howabout Hackney Hawks moving into and taking over the Eastbourne set up. It would be far easier to get fresh fish at Eastbourne being that it's so close to the sea. Another plus point is that Uncle Len would be closer to a retirement home along with all the wrinklies at Eastbourne. Food for thought  Whinging about no cod, ok I have been put in my plaice. kasper
if the rye fans dont like the name change they dont have 2 go and watch them.what does it matter what they are called has long as theres speedway to watch.many fans have no speedway to watch because their club has closed. Â Which is precisely what is already happening... From my point of view as a die hard fan of Rye House, rarely missing any meetings, PL or NL at Rye for the last 7 years, I have missed more this season at both levels than over the other years put together. Â It is all well and good having the "Don't come then and you won't have a team to support at all" attitude but that is where the sport is fundamentally wrong, it's blackmail, you don't get it in other sports, fans need to be appreciated and given reason to come back next week. The paying customer is the priority, without them there is no business and by that the Hackney 'revival' is not successful, which is a shame. If the side was still the Rye House Raiders (not Cobras, that has to be the worst team nickname ever) then Rye would be making a lot more money on the NL meetings. Â Raiders meetings back in 04/05 used to draw crowds just as big, if not bigger than some rockets meetings have done this season.

Have thought that myself - I wonder why he doesn't just go with that as a policy for NL matches... Would be IMHO an even bigger winner with the Hackney meetings.. Â He should but Len is stuck in his ways, which is a shame as it is damaging his profits, the meetings don't have to be free even, just cheaper to get into, it'll help the riders and the place has more atmosphere when there are actually fans inside the stadium! Â Â mmm have we seen you there since it was FREE??? I see this as lots of people stating what they want but living in the 1970's and not 2011, yeah great to see the Hawks race jackets, but it really has not caught the imagination, I love all speedway, but even I can see people are not flocking to either venue. Maybe we will see a Hawks team at one of teh Olympic park stadiums, but not at teh cost of the Rockets.

The crowd must have been 60 - 40 Mildenhall followers (conservative estimate) and the rest mainly Rye House, I saw very little evidence of hoards of Hackney supporters in attendance. Â No disrespect, but if it had been the IoW or say Buxton there on Saturday it would have been a very small crowd indeed. Â I don't think the Hackney name has caught the imagination and may have even alienated some Rye House supporters who used to follow the Cobras Edited June 14, 2011 by PhilK

Friday's an important date in that respect with the second stand-alone Hackney fixture at AE - and a more 'normal' one as not involving the very well supported as an away side, Dudley... It's IoW on Friday..
Shadders
If the side was still the Rye House Raiders (not Cobras, that has to be the worst team nickname ever)You must be joking Ben... There have been plenty worse over the years. Chads, Tamers, Shuttle Cubs, Lacemen, Poppies and probably the worst, Bloaters!!! That's just off the top of my head, I'm sure there are more... Cobras was the name given to the speedway side in the post war film "Once A Jolly Swagman".  He should but Len is stuck in his ways, which is a shame as it is damaging his profits, the meetings don't have to be free even, just cheaper to get into, it'll help the riders and the place has more atmosphere when there are actually fans inside the stadium! I remember Len stating that he lost money on only one meeting staged at Rye House last year... I wonder how many this year?  It certainly didn't seem to be the case on Saturday Ken. The crowd must have been 60 - 40 Mildenhall followers (conservative estimate) and the rest mainly Rye House, I saw very little evidence of hoards of Hackney supporters in attendance. Hard to tell how many Hackney fans are at Rye House as they would have to still own the jackets and other clothing they had back in 1996 as I don't think Lakeside or Rye House track shops sell Hawks branded apparel Edited June 14, 2011 by Shadders
