Superb night.

Rory and Ward were the absolute Bees Kees. Freddie class as always and head and shoulders the best of the GP stars.

Shame Greg was on borrowed machinery (was it Magics?)..

The final was an outstanding race. Rory's first and second bend was out of this world..

Glad a big crowd turned out for Johno.. I'm sure he's just getting started in the bar.

Well done Rory

What a shame he is not in the GPS

He's in the qualifiers this year... :approve:

Well done Rory  . He has guested for us a few times this year and he looks like a different rider!!! So full of confidence and we've seen some incredible passes from him, that he just wouldn't have donre a few years ago...Go Rory :approve:

I suspect it will be a heavy night for those not riding on Saturday...ha ha

Great to see such a big crowd for Johno - a top bloke. :approve:

The meeting itself was something of a drawn-out affair, but at least there was a decent final at the end of it all. That's probably about the best I've seen Schlein ride.

Thanks for all the memories, Johno :approve:

All the best

Rob

Always said a fully fit, confident Rory is not the one everyone bitches and moans about. When he's on it he can pass almost for fun and looks out for his team mate and generally rides well. Sadly, at Coventry we're only ever seen this for a small time as no sooner than Rory seems to find something, he ends up on his arse (or worse) and breaks something, sending him back to square 1.

I'm informed his 1st and 2nd bend of the final was something a bit special.

I actually quite like this situation. There aren't many that have been shafted so badly by the Coventry promotion over the last few years, that can stick a big fat finger up and say "kiss it" , but Rory can :approve::cheers:

Agreed, Roo well worth the win and recovered well from his tumble. Held Darcy off in the final who was very good but even he could do nothing in the race he finisnhed last in! Interestingly the pair had a few words at the start in the final, wonder what was said!? Track I thought was poor, why do riders have to ride so close to the fence to find anything? If that's on par with what is served up week in week out then hardly surprising the support is voting with its feet! Based on last night's performance, it didn't inspire me to visit in a hurry although will have to do one meeting as I bought a groupon voucher - doh! Looked like there was a bump or rut on the apex of the 1st and 2nd bends that caught the riders out, Crump had one of those heart in the mouth moments round as a result. Produce a racing surface with plenty of racing lines especially given the team Swindon have, can't be that hard can it?

Thought Crump the pick of the GP riders for me till Bridger took him off in heat 13 and didn't appear again, good race between Freddie and Eddie and also Scott and Simon with half a wheel in it! Holder also took a tumble busting a gut trying to get something from the track and also declined further rides. Olly Allen took a tumble and took no further part.

Big crowd, well I won't know as not a regular - judging by the tickets I was number 418 and my son 121 and that was about 19.10 when we went in....zero atmosphere, big crowd or not! Long drawn out first half, heat 9 not startingt ill 20.55 although after that it appears someone either found the 2 minute button or was told to move it along! Final race finished around 22.10.

All in all, it served it's purpose and as these things go, not bad but it was just a mediorce meeting...just my view of course, no doubt others will disagree!

Well done Rory

What a shame he is not in the GPS

He's through to one of the 3 semis(just, scoring 8 points), with the likes of Janowski, Zetterstrop, Iversen, Monberg, KK, Lindback, Barker, Wrighty, HansAnd, Lindback, Pedersen, Kennett, King etc.,. Klindt, Steady, Jonasson, and The Fish missed out.

Didn't go last night but good luck to Johnno, one of the sport's characters.

There's been some good racing at Blunsdon this year, the only reason the crowd is down is because of the poor home form,(and the bloody weather), not the track.

Schleiny always goes well at Swindon.

Depends on what you call good racing - the only line being so wide that the riders are riding very close to the fence is not conducive to good racing - recent reports suggest the track produced doesn't suit the riders, or perhaps more pertinent, how it is prepared, still nothing wrong with the track?

Poor home form and track perhaps go hand in hand? Again, just my view.

If that's the sort of race track Swindon produce every week then no wonder people are moaning

Horrendous bits on that track, especially going into bend 1 which continually caught heatleader and GP standard riders out.

Stunning ride from Schlein in the final. That second bend was a little bit special ! Different rider to the one in the past, all too often the throttle used to go off when it got a bit tight but looks a new man this season. Pleasure to watch as he has been every other time I've seen him this season.

The Bridger/Crump crash was nasty, and whilst Bridger did go into that bend very fast, I really don't think the conditions helped in the slightest!

Sad that that will be the last of Johno, but the meeting itself certainly wasn't all that fun. Just 21 heats of racing and nothing else really happening. Think the testimonial/farewell meeting is starting to die out now :(

Farewell Johno - you will be missed.

Really, never seen it meself, given the GP boys would not have busted a gut last night, he was probably flattered. 1st and 2nd bend, your easily pleased at Coventry!!! You need to get out more!!

Edited for spelling.

I have to say that Clive Fisher on his own is normally very irritating but with Dick Barrie they were like a bad double act much like the Chuckle Brothers. Dick's inane prattling was very annoying as were his teeth whistling through the microphone.

The speedway was entertaining though - just a shame that Crumpie and Hancock were obviously saving themselves for Saturday - although great to see them both back riding in this country - even if it was for just one night - excluding Cardiff.

I never understand how Greg Hancock who has constantly given 2 fingers to British speedway is always given such a good reception here & he didn't even bring his own bikes along as was riding Magic's Swindon bikes.

The hole on in bend 1/2 has been there for quite a few seasons & better track men than Ronnie have failed to find a solution to it & Bridger took Jason off because he was going to fast & had nothing to do with the hole or the track.

All in all the meeting had some excellent racing in it but was ruined by the pathetic attemps of humour between Fisher & that idiot from Scotland who must have thought the meeting was an after thought to his insane ramblings & i feel sorry for any Berwick fans who have to put up with that each week.

The big dissapointment was that there were no track reserves there to cover for the withdrawals of riders & with Kenny Ingalls there it really didn't make sense as laps amongst the quality on show would've helped his development.

The top GP riders showed their affinity to a top bloke in Johno who might not have reached the hights he might have wanted but by god the bloke has given years of excitement & enjoyment to our great sport & will be sadly missed.

I think I must be the only one who enjoyed the banter between Clive and Dick.

With regard to the hole between bends 1 & 2, it may have been, there a while but I think it's worse this year and seems to catch a rider out every week this season.

I enjoyed the meeting but damn it was cold, gloves in June is not on :-(
