Premier League Best Pairs

Recommended Posts

Frampton and Neath stand a good chance of going through to final round but maybe not quite good enough to beat Somerset or Sheffield for top honours !!!

Would have been quite fun to see Steve Boxall named and watch the reaction of Somerset fans if he did well, but maybe thats just my twisted sense of humour. :rofl:

A couple of years back the powers that be decided to use the results of heat fifteens in the Premier Trophy meetings to decide qualification . Again that was met with critisism , but it was fairer than what we have now .

i think that was the year Doolan & Topinka missed out for KL, even though they were 2 of the highest average riders in the league

How do Doolan and Poole get in ahead of Franc and Smith/Complin? :unsure:

Maybe us fans would not be so pissed off if the promoters told us the qualifying criteria, because I can't work it out!

Because Ipswich's combined GSA (14.66)is higher than Franc and Smith/Complin (13.70/13.97). Newports combined GSA of Doyle and Lanham (15.12) is higher than Ipswich and Berwick and we still can't get in!!! >:(

Well if that's true, it's even more ridiculous!

Moan,moan,moan on this thread. The Comets missed out on the Pairs and Fours last year but had riders capable of winning too. Looking forward to this meeting after taking in Johno's Farewell meeting at Swindon on Thurs and off to Cardiff GP on the Saturday.

Make my weekend to see the Comets on the rostrum :approve:

Is it not based on the top two riders average? This is Doolan and Risager = 15.41, not Doolan and Poole = 14.66. :unsure:

I make it

Josef Franc 7.67

Kozza Smith 7.45

TOTAL 15.12

Kevin Doolan 7.54

Taylor Poole 7.22

TOTAL 14.76

They're surely not using rolling average? :rolleyes: The whole point of speedway is to sign riders who will increase their average, so to use rolling averages for a pairs meeting seems to be completely against that.

Plymouth should never of been in to start with imo.

And clearly ipswich have done enough bleeting so there in.

The should of stuck by the principles and told the BSPA to stick it where the sun don't shine.

farce.

Sheffield to win.

Actually I don't think we did any bleating, seems like it's the Newport lot that are the most pee'ed off tbh.

From the averages I got on my laptop:

With BP

Lanham = 8.00

Doyle = 7.56 = 15.56

Without BP

Lanham = 7.34

Doye = 7.33 = 14. 67

All I can find is, "Teams are able to pick any 2 or their top 3 CMAs as at June 1, 2011." - which ok does suggest that it's rolling averages they have used.

If Robson and Sneddon are Newcastle pair though, someone else should replacement. Newport could probably put 2 pairs in with higher averages!

Doyle - 7.95

Lanham - 7.34

TOTAL - 15.29

Ipswichs top 3 are Doolan, Risager and Bjerre. So how is Poole (5th in the average) allowed to ride? :rofl:

I partially agree with that one. Replace the weakest pair - makes sense. However

would it be fair to any fans from Newcastle who have arranged day off work or

booked hotels so they can attend this meeting, only to discover their riders

are no longer a part of it.

:unsure:

Edit; rephrased.

I'm assuming that as 2 of the top 5 riders are long term injuries, and probably Lasse is washing his hair next Friday night and can't change his plans :wink: , that leaves next in line Taylor Poole to step up to the tapes :cheers:

No Wuckin' Furries!

Great to see Taylor doing well; he's come a long way - in more ways than one!

I'll be cheering for KD at Queensway Meadows as well!

Still unbelievable that Newport aren't in it. Doyle and Gjedde would have an excellent chance of winning. Rather watch them have a blast than some of the rubbish in the line up.

I know, just so many rubbish riders in the line up...isn't it ridiculous?

Don't be so pathetic!!

In terms of qualification, I am assuming, and just assuming as we havent actually been told, dont they just take the top 3 riders averages in each team totaled (as of rolling averages on June 1st) and then take the top 10??

This would be the totals as of then, of the top 3 riders according to the BSPA official averages:

Newcastle 24.93

Redcar 24.47

Sheffield 24.04

Workington 23.45

Glasgow 23.38

Plymouth 23.36

Somerset 23.1

Edinburgh 22.8

Leicester 22.72

Rye House 22.71

Newport 22.17

Ipswitch 22.16

Berwick 20.6

Scunthorpe 20

Therefore missing out would be Newport, Ipswitch, Berwick and Scunthorpe.

Then obviously with Plymouth dropping out, I would assume that Newport then would be given the place being 0.01 above Ipswitch, but appears not to be the case.

But I think these figures pretty much lay out the selection of the teams, which seems very fair to me, and I dont see any arguement with it??

Apart from a few anomalies along the way with certain riders who arent in the top 3 taking riders. (Summers for Redcar??)
