NathanB
Yep gotta agree with you there baggy from what I have seen of the lad this season he has been very impressive. Even when Lakeside were at Lynn he was the only rider to come out of the meeting with any credit. Well done to Middleditch (i think it must be him!!!) for picking the lad. hatcham
Sorry but this decision is ridiculous, Mear is not among the top 15 British riders, he's not even Lakeside's top British reserve! If the management won't take the national team seriously, how can they expect the public to!
tigerowl
Rob Mear may not be amongst the top British riders but he has shown some real bottle by riding in the Elite League and scoring well rather than swanning about in the Premier League year on year. It's about time ambition like this was rewarded and might encourage some of the lads who ought to be in the Elite League but are having 'one more year in the Premier' to make the step up. If England / Great Britain are ever going to compete again with Poland, Denmark, Sweden and Australia there needs to be more lads like Rob willing to take the plunge. Congratulations Rob, a well deserved selection.

Sprog1
Sorry but this decision is ridiculous, Mear is not among the top 15 British riders, he's not even Lakeside's top British reserve! If the management won't take the national team seriously, how can they expect the public to! Its not ridiculous, its a fairly obvious choice. Of the available riders Nichols, Bomber, Tai (if fit), Kennet, Bridger and Barker all go pretty well at Lakeside and are obvious choices. That leaves Mear, Robson,Olly Allen, Auty,Wright and Danny King to be considered for the remaining place. Of those Robbo, at 34 probably has age against him for an international career. Allen and Auty are both hopeless at Lakeside and James Wright is too dependent on his inconsistent gating when he comes down. So the choice is really between Mear and Danny King. King will barely be back from injury and will hardly be match fit, but apart from that his average this year is less than a point higher than Mears, according to the excellent speedway-stats.co.uk website. Add to that the fact that Danny has never acheived the sort of scores at Lakeside that Rob has managed in the last few weeks it seems reasonable that Rob should be given the chance on his home track. hatcham
Its called looking to the future Really? With Kennett, Bridger, Woffinden, Barker, and King all mid twenties or younger how far into the future do we need to look? And how does promoting an average Elite league reserve to the first team help our future? It just sends a message that performing moderately reaps rewards. I also fail to see how it will do Mear's confidence any good, he's currently getting left behind by run of the mill second strings, up against the worlds elite he'll be slaughtered. hatcham
Of those Robbo, at 34 probably has age against him for an international career. Why? any one in their right mind given a straight choice between Robson and Mear for a race at Lakeside, would go with Robbo every time, and that includes the Lakeside manager. Good job Gollob and Hancock don't think 34 is told old to perform!

He's being capped on his home track, and why not? Gives local fans some added interest and rewards his ambition in riding full time Elite League. His scores at Lakeside have been decent: Last 4 8+1 (4) 6+3 (4) 5+2 (4) 11+1 (5) Good chance to give some fresh talent a go and make the youngsters feel part of the International set-up
