The Buildbase British Final.

I have noticed that at least 6 riders in the British Final are Coventry assets, good job we are back in the league, again as you can see, we are raising the standards of British Speedway, its a shame other teams do not seem to have the same point of view.

Sandhu and trumps assets are propping up the Elite league , thats why the bspa were so keen to close them down and share out their assets .

And exactly how many did you bring through the ranks with nurturing, help, advice and support ?

And how many arrived with the help of a chequebook ?

Perhaps then you can explain why Rob Mear who is holding down a full time EL and probably one of the most improved British riders this year job was not invited to compete in the qualifying rounds although PL second strings were, while blue-eyed boy Auty from the PL was parachuted into the final despite failing to qualify on merit ? Maybe there is a genuine explanation but it does seem that its the usual BSPA thing that if your face fits you are OK but if it doesn't, forget it.

My guess would be that there is a qualification process, possibly last years averages and that is why he didn't get into the semis.

It does make interesting reading, the clubs who have riders represented. 15 different clubs - Belle Vue, Birmingham, Coventry, Eastbourne, Lakeside, Leicester, Newcastle, Newport, Plymouth, Redcar, Rye House, Scunthorpe, Sheffield, Swindon & Wolverhampton. Only Sheffield have more than one rider in the field.

When it comes to assets, however, just 7 clubs are featured...

6 - Coventry (Scott Nicholls, Ben Barker, Chris Harris, Edward Kennett, Josh Auty, Jordan Frampton)

3 - Sheffield (Ricky Ashworth, Richard Hall, Ben Wilson)

2 - Ipswich (Danny King, Leigh Lanham), Lakeside (Lee Richardson, Stuart Robson)

1 - Wolverhampton (Tai Woffinden), Scunthorpe (David Howe), Eastbourne (Lewis Bridger)

A mystery, I have rated Rob for a couple of years now, and in fact said on here a few times we should have signed him instead of a Hefenbrock / Sitera sort of rider.

What happened to him last year? why did he take the year out? Also why is he not doubling up this year, after all the way the rules have changed previously in relation to doubling up he might not get a chance next season.

I think he was left on the shelf last year, which is typical of British speedway. But that is the reason he didn't qualify for the semis I think as he didn't get an average.

Am I correct in my reading of the draw for the British Final that Messrs Harris and Nicholls meet in the final heat, together with Messrs Howe and Barker?

Am I?

Well the last qualifying heat anyway! It could be some of the same riders in the Final but depends on how Scott does.

After you made us "scrape up" £30k for Richardson I don't think we'll make the same mistake with Nicholls.
