Team Gb V Australia At Swindon Now Off

Recommended Posts

Fixture wise probably not exactly helped by late inclusion of two teams to EL, but 'nuff said on that.

Well that also applies to what went on over the winter, forethought and planning in advance rather than knee jerk reactions everywhere and none of it would have happened.

How many meetings of this type do the other countries have? There isn't a great deal of potential world beaters available for GB, and if there were they'd be at a good level already.

It's a big step from being a good league rider to being a world class rider. There is talent there in Bridger, Kennett, Auty, Barker, etc but to throw them into the World Cup and expect results is too much as we've seen in the past.

Woffinden was an exception although even he struggled at GP level. The problem is at the roots as we don't have 80cc racing and such, which needs to be addressed but until it is, these test series provide valuable experience for riders on the doorstep at this level without heaps of pressure. It also gives Middlo a chance to assess who is worthy of a chance in the SWC.

Has anybody not given a thought to the fact that the GRA might have something to do with this?? And as for Alan Boons side, phew, i lost half a seconds beat there. Im Pleased that Neil is team manager and not you!!

Put me hand up and admit i hadn't  .Could kick meself now though. Why didn't i think of the GRA as being the reason riders weren't available due to a clash of fixtures

Theres always one. If rider avaliabillity is not the reason then what other reasons are there? Your the smart one, you tell me??

Ok.Proving how smart i am....you are is shortened to you're,not your  And as the person that started the thread stated fixture clash and rider availability as the problem i figured he had that from an official source rather than just made it up off the top of his head.Gave them the benefit of the doubt on that though, rather than trying to find out what source it was and double checking  So do you have an official source that you can link to?

I didn't say that would be my side, it's just an example. Actually, let's do this...

Great Britain (as managed by ME!): Chris Harris ©, Scott Nicholls, Lewis Bridger, Jordan Frampton, Leigh Lanham*, Robert Mear, Craig Cook (* to tempt fans from Newport :))

I totally agree with you that the whole grass roots set-up needs to be radically changed. What I don't understand, however, is how riding a meeting against a team full of riders that most Brits ride against regularly in the league, can help their progression? It may help some of the top PL riders become that bit better, but the riders already riding EL surely can't benefit that much. If you did want to test EL riders and improve them then why not ride against Poland? The best side in the world.

Well if the GRA had anything to do with it why do the Swindon management team, via the BSPA website, cite fixture clashes and the subsequent unavailability of riders as THE reason for the call off....doesn't anyone in speedway tell the damn truth anymore ??? We get told riders are injured and the very next day they ride elsewhere, we get told all sorts of things and then the facts come out completely the opposite via the internet....do they take all speedway fans for gullable idiots now ????? They make a big thing of annoncing these sort of meetings, with special price tickets for going to all 3 meetings, then at the speed of light cancel one of them.....I wonder if the other 2 tests will make it through the night !!! :nono:

As the originator of this thread I did actually put that the source was from the official BSPA website.....it's on the first line...and it was there that it was officially stated that fixture clashes and rider unavailability were the reason.

Bring it to the Showground.

Ward and Batchelor both fly around it.

and Nicki Pedersen as guest for GB to even it up.

It needs to be staged somewhere where it's NOT going to be cancelled, with the EoES's record of cancellations this year alone, that is crazy

However it would have made a good central venue for the fans to attend...shame availability is such an issue there

I read in a local paper today that apparently Ben Barker and Daniel King aswell as Eddie Kennett were due to ride in this meeting. As its Brummies/Coventry on the same day, a big local derby and probably the biggest crowd since 2007 is expected with Emil making debut at PB, its understandable that our promotion didnt want to move it or use a side with guest riders. It would be nice to beat the Bees with a full side. :approve:

I dont understand why Barker,King and Kennett cant be used at Poole, with 3 other riders used at Swindon. Surely we were'nt going to see the same 3 sides for GB in the 3 Tests. Its should be all about rotating the sides so everyone that is in form gets a fair crack at the whip.

Now you're using logic, that's just silly !!!

  • 2 weeks later...

So looking at the two EL teams riding tonight, it appears that this Test Match was cancelled because Ben Barker, Danny King and Eddie Kennett would not be available. A sad indictment for Team GB that these three could not be replaced adequately in order to have 3 Test matches. Obviously I don't know all the facts, so it could be that some other Team GB riders would not be available or maybe even bothered to be in the UK to ride tonight...another sad indictment of Team GB !!!! And to think we fans have been calling for the return of Test matches for some time now. We don't have enough Brit lads to make up a squad that can be used over just three meetings !!!
