Another SGP yawnfest. Tony Olsson has morphed into Ole Olsen with the dodgy track prep

well Alan what i think Syko means that just put loose dirt on a track like Prague would only result in that the dirt would not stay on the track.

You need to make sure that the dirt that you put on will blend/merge with the shale that is already on the track. or atleast that how i think it works?

well about the same standard as Prague was last year and in 2009 and 2008 and in....

Hi,

I was very brief in my post because i had to hotfoot out to pick my son up. What you need is a GOOD track curator with orders from on high to make it a "racing" track with lots of different lines to pass on. Whatever the base surface is, given time, expertise and some expense it can be done. The GPs are THE showcase of the sport. The weather was fine, the track did NOT measure up. This was an "Ole" track with a vengeance and very pedestrian processions, for the most part, resulted. Lets hope tomorrow in Poland brings us good fare. Kindest regards. Alan.

The highlight for me was not having to listen to Tatum's OOOHHH! every lap when a front wheel comes off the ground. Stekkers was a welcome change and I thought Pearson was much better without Pob.

I did have to chuckle at some of Stek's cliches though but thought he did a good job.

Nice to see Shawn Moran in the pits with Grin. Two real speedway legends. I would love to see Greg win it at 41, how he keeps on doing what he does is remarkable.

We've been to a wedding all day today and so put the GP on Sky plus but I don't think we'll even bother watching it back in the morning having read this thread. Prague is crap but world championship speedway in general is pretty poor nowadays, it promises so much but delivers so little and I only really attend Cardiff for the social aspect of the weekend. Its time somebody grabbed track preparation for the series by the scruff of the neck and turned the whole thing into an exciting product again.

We've been out today but it doesn't look like I've missed much after reading these posts. I thought last season's G.P's were vastly improved due to the tracks being prepared a lot better but it seems it's back to the slick borefests again.

Not sure why everyone is making these style of comments.

Prague has always been bad for racing. It wasn't any better last year than this.

One bad meeting on the traditionally slick and dull Prague doesn't change anything about the track prep agenda.

As far as I understand it, what Tony Olsson changed when he took over from Ole was that he let the locals do their thing rather than dictating a slick track. I doubt you would see Prague much different for any other match held there.

That's absolutely right HenryW. Tony does leave the track staff to prepare the track in the manner that they think most appropriate. Tony's input to the track is to confirm that any track equipment meets the commitment that the promoters make to the FIM when signing up to host the SGP, other than reporting to the FIM on the track staffs ability to produce a reasonable track. The thing is, that if you go to Prague there are only 2 types of tracks that you will ever be presented with - Slick, or very Slick, and so it will of come as no surprise to any of the riders just how slick it can be there - I'm surprised that Ermelenko seems to have forgotten that.

There was the odd half decent race later in the meeting but this was a borefest in the most part.

Yeah. There was some interest in the meeting. It wasn't good, but it was far from the worst GP we have suffered in the last 4 or 5 years. And it was no worse than some of the other meetings such as EL or Polish stuff.Watched a few dreary Swedish meetings as well this week. And i thought it was Ermolenko that said it doesn't matter if it is slick or grippy at Prague it is still usually first out of the gate wins. You know what you are going to get at Prague, which is why i wouldn't bother going to a GP there

The guys in the Sky Studio said "there are other sporting events being televised at the same time as this" I can't remember the exact words he used after but basically he was saying the racing last night was crap and the track staff should of given us a better race track.
