FINAL RACEDAY WEATHER CHECK - 6pm

NO problems whatsoever in terms of tonight's meeting going ahead. Trackstaff are busy preparing the circuit following this afternoon's successful training session.

Sun's out, blue sky with just a few white wispy clouds above the office where I'm manning the phone (see earlier posts for number if you require any information).

Only problem I might POSSIBLY envisage for anyone not attending is that you might just miss out on getting one of the new style Hackney Hawks programme on sale tonight at just £1.

Cya later!

That'll be twice on each bend, yes?

Yes, probably should have made that bit clear!

Not just gate...turn once...turn again...hit fence!

Let’s make it a date Friday at eight. For the first time since 1991 that’s exactly what we can say when the Hackney Hawks race against the mob from the Black Country, the Dudley Heathens. They visit Hackneys Lakeside home and let’s hope for a cracking match. The form of the Hawks has been excellent, apart from the glitch at Scunthorpe this season. Can only see a Hackney win here so lets hammer’em back to the Black Country with no points!

shuda gone to specsavers lol well done the heathens :nono::cheers:

Congrats to the Heathens on their win tonight, they did deserve it and their riders all got to grips with the track well.

However i must say i dont know what the crowds have been like at Rye House for Hawks meetings but tonight i would be surprised if there were much more than 300 fans in attendance and that was with a decent few from the Midlands.

Thats a cracking win for The Heathens. I think away wins will be few and far between in the NL this year, so this was unexpected by many except me, and a few others i dont mind blowing my own trumpet, just as i did at Buxton last season  Well done guys more of the same on Monday at Scunny  .

A few corrections needed here...

Magic Mason's score was 13.

Oh and I had Barrie third in heat 13 not Marc which makes Evans' total 6 and Owen's 6 also.

Also Shane had engine failure in his third outing: not an exclusion for a fall. Indeed no reruns and no wobblers!! Excellent night's entertainment - shame though about the result!!

I agree with Parsloes amendments.

Excellent meeting.Plenty to keep everyone interested.

Poor performances from Evans and Hopwood not helping the Hawks.

Immensley impressed with Shane Hazelden. His only blip being caused by accidently kicking his plug lead off.Otherwise superb.I know and get on well with both Shane and Dad Gary.Considering all his serious injuries over the last few years, its great to see his talent being rewarded with performances like that.Well done mate.

Of course I was delighted with Kyles paid maximum, his first ever away from 'home'.Some very determined first turns set him apart.Met a few Dudley fans, great to put faces to names.

Thanks also to Parsloes.Good to meet up again and enjoy some lively banter. Also Ian from Oxford.

Very well done Heathens.

The closeness of the scoreline kept it interesting yes but from a racing standpoint there were only three passes all night, had this been a Lakeside sky meeting people would probably be riping it to shreads for being boring and ultra slick, i say this strictly as a neutral because i have no empathy with either side, the Heathens fan clearly enjoyed themselves what with getting the win and their riders done well adapting to this often hard to learn track.

Blimey! This is a real rarity as I agree with just about everything Parsnips says above  ....... er except one thing! :nono: There was a re-run which came in heat 2 when Ben Hopwood charged the tapes and had to go off the 15 metre handicap in the re-run.

One other minor point on names in that it's Brandon Freemantle rather than Brendon. Finally it was good to see both Alan Mogridge helping out in the pits and also heartening to see Lee Richardson in attendance earlier passing on some tips.

Hmm, interesting that as, TBH, I'm never sure whether a tapes offence amounts to it being officially called a 'rerun' or not... Personally I usually do call that a rerun but I think in the Star match details it usually isn't defined this way... One could argue an offence at the starting gate means the race has never officially started and certainly when the tapes are left tangled around the bikes at the start there's no need for the ref to stop the race...

One thing I did (I think...) get wrong in my prog was in heat 12 - there was a very dramatic and almost catastrophic fall from a challenging Heathens rider on the last bend and I marked the faller down as Tom Perry. Looking at the scorers though I guess I must've got the identity of the faller wrong and it was in fact Tom's partner in that race, Darryl Ritchings... Can someone confirm please..?!

Firstly Parsnips old fruit, I've always found when announcing at meetings that if a rider touches the tapes and the red lights come on, refs normally call out something like... "rider in R/B/W or Y touched the tapes, a re-run with him being replaced by a reserve or him going off a 15 metre handicap...." So I would say it definitely IS a re-run.

As to heat 12, it WAS Darryl Ritchings who fell - you were probably busy supping your pint at the time!

Oh and I hate to have to do this, wot with peace and goodwill broken out, but this was heat THREE - when young Master Hopwood began his very out-of-sorts evening by ploughing thru' our Ian's carefully prepared tapes!

sorry about this i know its a bit late in the day but altho i enjoyed the meeting for obvious reasons ive got a couple a points i need to comment on.the first one is the lakeside track.its a good shape it has all the potential for good exciting racing so why does it always seem to disappoint.no real passing after the first two bends ,or is it just me?also,if len or someone at rye house reads this if you decide to track share next year could you do it with a track thats easier to get to or maybe change the race night.fridays are not good ,it took 4 hours 40 from the dudley area.a good change of track next year and easier to get to would maybe be bydgoszcz  thing is im not joking!!!
