Hackney V Dudley

Paul

Recommended Posts

Let’s make it a date Friday at eight. For the first time since 1991 that’s exactly what we can say when the Hackney Hawks race against the mob from the Black Country, the Dudley Heathens. They visit Hackneys Lakeside home and let’s hope for a cracking match. The form of the Hawks has been excellent, apart from the glitch at Scunthorpe this season. Can only see a Hackney win here so lets hammer’em back to the Black Country with no points!

Hackney to win on the basis that it takes you a race to learn how to ride Lakeside! As proven against Stoke, those first 4 heats are a killer!

I'd take a point if you offered it to me now. Slick tracks don't suit our 'can't gate, won't gate' team.

And if they chase the dirt they have a hell of a long way to go! When Stoke went down there, we were 10 down after 4 and lost by 12. Shows how important the track knowledge is!

Vog not sure of the geography these days, but are not Stoke only the 2nd best Team in Staffordshire  .

I would argue that, given our only meeting this season ended in a draw, and both teams could claim to be missing key riders, this argument is best left until June 28th, when we prove that we are the best team in Staffordshire ;)

Ha Ha! Excuse me, this is the mighty Hackney Hawks ! The Hawks will be flying high, hammering them there Heathens!

On a serious note I hope you are able to get to Lakeside, just allow loads of time to get across the Dartford Crossing if you use the lower part of the M25 or if you take the north side that has loads of road works by junction 28 Southend/Romford and at junction 21 M1.

Lets hope for a great advert for National League speedway and a Hackney win…..

Don't tell me you've bought into all this Hackney Hawks mullarkey? You and I know this is essentially the Rye House Cobras rebranded, and pretty poorly at that. It's gonna take more than a few Hawks/Rockets dual embossed programme boards and scarves to convince me otherwise. A dedicated Hawks programme for the home meetings at Rye House would be a start!!

you'll have to forgive mr.tadman shadders. you see he has a dream, that one day his beloved hawks or is it romford bombers will race in the olympic park. seriously as an ex dons fan i do hope that paul's dream comes true and we get real speedway back in london. :)

I agree, it would be great to see ANY speedway side in London... I spent a few evenings at Wimbledon speedway in the late 80's/early 90's... A pig to get to from North London, that walk to and from Wimbledon Park Station was a shocker, but worth the journey... The revamped smaller track just didn't do it for me though :(

Totally 100% agree with your statement Shadders. But…….

I’ve been trying to keep the ‘Hackney Speedway’ name alive since the closure of Hackney in 1991. As many people know there is a facebook page http://www.facebook.com/home.php which has been running now for 4 years, http://hackneyreunion.com/ which has been running since 2004 a twitter account http://twitter.com/@hackneyspeedway , a myspace page and trying to keep the name of Hackney Speedway alive. With a Hackney team back on track it's a great help in my quest in getting a plaque erected near to the old Waterden Road track as possible remembering that speedway was held here and that riders lost there lives on that track. You can imagine my joy when I heard the Hawks where to be seen on the track again this year. Yes there’s a lot of political stuff going on, but to see the race jacket back on the track for me is a delight. Yes it’s not in the east end, yes it’s a rebranded Cobras team from last year but it’s a Hackney Hawks team.

I think we all know realistically the chances of speedway returning to London’s east end are slim, but no ones actually said NO have they? Even if that answer did come, I’d still keep the name Hackney Speedway rolling everywhere I could. Wimbledon have a excellent websites http://www.wimbledon-speedway.com [wish mine was a good as that] so they can be remembered as do Romford http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robert.knightley/ another excellent site.

So for now I’ll go and see the Hackney Hawks team race, because they’re branded Hackney and have a Hackney race jacket. Will they be in existence after this year? We’ll just have to wait and see.

One thing is for sure, watch out Heathens you’ll be going home pointless next Friday and our rivalry will back on track the following Tuesday at Wolverhampton!

Just remember Heathens fans back in 1987 the Hackney Kestrels Andy Galvin & Alan Mogridge got a 5-1 relegating a certain Eric Gundersen to third place, no one saw that one coming, happy days.

hahah, love your enthusiasm paul, but eric was feeling sorry for you guys in that race.

We both have the same aims which are for Hackney and Heathens to get there own Track, and people who have not gone through losing there Team dont realise what it means to see the name again, good luck with that Paul, and thanks for the Travel info, once i hit the M25 i plan to go clockwise, roughly how long should i allow from when i get to the M25 ??.

From the time you hit the M1/M25 junction it should take around 45 minutes to Lakeside for the 42 mile journey allowing for the 50mph speed restrictions through the roadworks.
