Sandie
I would very much welcome a return to Stockholm. I have always regarded Gothenburg as a city without soul. Personally I would prefer Sarasota as a replacement. Hang on a minute - a lad from the village next to us (where my children went to school) was murdered there just a couple of weeks ago! Don't fancy there at the moment! And also the fact I have been there before - choose somewhere in the States I haven't been to please. Stockholm sounds great, but sunny states would be brill
The Know
IT was a public workers strike affecting not just transport but rubbish collection and much, much more. Subsequently there was a problem with stadium availability in Stockholm... might have been a big athletics event, cannot quite recall, and that was that. Much will obviously depend on what these new stadiums are like, whether a track can be laid, etc, etc. But like most on here would much prefer Stockholm to Gothenburg as a city. I am only guessing but from BSI/IMG's prospective, unlikely to be more costly than Ullevi (huge track, no cover) and comes without the baggage of the aborted meeting in Gothenburg which probably still puts off many prospective punters given the unpredictable nature of the weather in that part of the world, especially in mid-May. we were the sponsor that day in stockholm, did get £1.50 compensation and a nice drive to avesta though funny was the sponsor of the gerkin one as well, maybe its me a bit of a jink i really like gothenburg as a place. lots to do and places to visit. 12 of us going again might make the stadium look a bit fuller

ONLY if they were American snails. You may never watch golf from the States. They pretty well ignore everyone bar the leader and non-Americans. I'm actually in Sarasota right now and, trust me, that very unfortunate episode recently which saw two young Brits lose their lives is very unusual. In the wrong place at the wrong time. On the speedway front, what a void Greg Hancock will leave, both as an American rider, an all-round nice guy and one of the classiest riders of all time. spook
HOW many American riders are there in it? tbh its more a case of how many overseas riders are there? ..... and at most its only ever a handful in any given season It is also quite telling that the broadcasters/organisers rarely mention their nationality and give their current US town as their address rather than where they are from...... Chad Reed (Aussie) who is one of the most successful riders in its history is also one of the most disliked .....and not for much reason as far as I can see! It is a shame that the IMG and Penhall/Morans/Sigalos/etc eras couldnt coincide Edited May 4, 2011 by spook

Yeah, the guy currently 2nd in the Lites Eastern division, Dean Wilson, is from Scotland...Or alternatively his hometown is listed as Menifee, California or San Jacinto, California if you look at the official AMA website Edited May 4, 2011 by HenryW

Hemsley Hotel - oh the memories, is it still there. Go check it out for me. As an aside - we were with the American Touring lads last year watching a GP. One of the lads just looked up and said - what are we going to do when Greg retires. Where is the next American GP rider coming from? My friend and I just looked at each other and then I looked at these 7 riders and simply said - If you guys cant see whats around you here tonight then we are wasting our time. None of them were able to see the picture that far ahead and think that possibly it could have been one of them. A very sobering moment that I wont forget. Humphrey Appleby
yep sunny states, land of murder Depends entirely where you go, and much of the States is safer than the UK. I suspect there's also more to that Sarasota story than meets the eye - two young lads without a car turning up in a ghetto well away from where they were staying. Very strange... dont know why bsi never tried the states. No money in it for them...
