Morning postie,

There was some overnight rain in Mildenhall town but it has all but dried up now.

I was up at 7am and it wasn't raining then, it's fairly bright at the moment, fingers crossed!

Although we had a difficult start to the meeting with the track riding inconsistently for the first few heats with a number of falls, it was another enjoyable afternoon of NL racing at West Row.

Speaking to some who were there working on the track first thing this morning, last nights stocks plus considerable overnight rain meant it was not an easy job to get the track prepared for a 4.30 start, so credit where it is due for their efforts.

I thought the result was about right with Belle Vue deserving something for their efforts. Kyle Howarth in particular impressed and rode an excellent race in heat 15 to defeat Brundle and Hargreaves and prevent the Fen Tigers getting all 3 points. Surprising to see Garrity only get five rides, may have made the difference in the end

On the Mildenhall front Brundle and Hargreaves both did their job well, and Blackbird impressed again although he didnt help poor Daniel Halsey in Heat 14, Halsey had a meeting where nothing really went right, on another day his efforts could have bought him 8/9 points. Aaron Baseby also deserved more for his efforts than his 2 point return.

It looked another decent crowd, i'd estimate 700 - 800 :approve: .

Another very good meeting although the track was very poor early on due to stock car racing the evening before. In Hargreaves and Brundle Mildenhall have 2 very accomplished riders and I wonder to myself if one of these could and would take the all wheelie and chats place at No6 of Hart? Cant help feeling his time has run out and us Witches fans are fed up with his all talk and no action.

... they only have a limited interest in developing riders (some, such as Dudley, have even less) and consequently a major part of their ethos is winning meetings to get the crowds in.

Ouch. We do have 6 Brits under 21 in the team!! And we have given Perry and Ritchings their first full season's racing in successive seasons.

My understanding is that he most certainly does have the patriality necessary to ride in the NL (although I suspect he will, if necessary, declare himself to be Australian) and that the hold up is something to do with his age and getting a work permit at this end rather than at the Australian one.

It would be smarter to declare himself a Brit, as per the Woffinden route, if he wants a career racing in Europe. It will, surely, make life a lot more straightforward living and working over here.

I believe this has been mentioned before but if you have patriality you don't need a work permit and to be eligible to claim patriality you have to be 17 or over. Work permit riders are not permitted in the National League.

So, are you suggesting that it's your opinion that he won't be able to ride over here as he's not older enough to claim partriality and he will not get a work permit to ride in the NL? If so then it's the league's loss. I was really looking forward to seeing him ride.

-------------------------------------------

I see Jason 'Demolition Derby' Garrity was up to his old tricks again. I was surprised to see he didn't win a race. Surely, that won't happen too often. Though once more at Monmore Wood next week would be okay by me.:P

Good to see Mildenhall get off to a good start this season. :approve:

Pleased to see a good crowd there, which would have been mainly home fans, so that looks good for the future, whilst young Mr Heeps hasnt made it here yet, our other reserve Lewis Blackbird has most certainly made a good impression in all of the matches this season so far, I can certainly see why the promotion was keen to get him at the club. Prepping the track after a previous nights stock car racing has always been a problem at Mildenhall and something that was discussed on here before the season, but I thought the trackman did a pretty good job in the time he had yesterday and it seemed as long as you attacked it, as per Howarth Becker, Brundle & Hargeaves did then it was perfectly acceptable, and I have certainly seen much worse elsewhere.

Also very good to see the turnout of riders having second halves, with that and a training morning coming up on Sat morning at West Row, it just gives you bit more confidence about the future of British Speedway.

My post was based on the comment on the Updates Forum, copied below.

Comments: Stopped. Garrity rides into the back of Lawrence, both riders come off but the ref calls it as all 4 back. Referee has just become Mr Unpopular!!!

Given that comment and his reputation I think my post was fair, particularly given it's obvious light-hearted tone. But if it reflects badly on him and he was not at fault I apologise. :)

From my vantage point on the first bend it was clear that Lawrence locked up on the entrance to the second bend and gave Garrity nowhere to go. I might be a Fen Tigers supporter but I was very surprised that Lawrence wasn't excluded, although the ref did say he'd put the red lights on straight away for an unsatisfactory start, though nobody around me saw them come on.

Unaccustomed as I am at defending referees ! I will on this occasion confirm Mr Entwhistle did indeed have the red lights on before they hit the first bend, and I did wonder if in fact Nick saw them and shut off whereas Jason didnt and kept the power on.

To be fair the red lights did come on but i heard the track staff say a couple didn't work. Also the sun was very bright on the first corner at that point in the meeting and it was hard to see the lights. Apology accepted Mr heathen i think you will be pleasantly suprised with Jason now how he has grown up and although he is keen to win he has started to settle down and learn to race for four laps, hopefully he keeps it going.

Fair enough, I know nobody around me didn't see the lights but it didn't mean they didn't come on. Looked like Nick locked up but maybe he did just see the lights

Appologies to both Dale Entwhistle and Nick Laurence if I have misinterpreted the situation.

No problem. It sounds like it was just one of those things that happens from time-to-time.

He's a bit of a panto-villain in these parts thanks to some of his antics last season, even riding into his team mates at Monmore Wood against the Heathens. He was booed, we love a bit of light-hearted booing , and seemed to get the wrong end of the stick. Apparently he went off on one about the Heathens fans on FB, though I didn't see it myself it was confirmed by a number of people on the forum and on the terrace, so I fully expect he'll get booed again. If you know him personally tell him if it happens it's just light-hearted and nothing to worry about. We booed Sam for 20 years and he just lapped it up and loved every minute of it. Likewise Hancock, who is one of the most popular riders in world speedway, was booed by the Wolves fans every time he turned up at Monmore for any of his British clubs due to the link with Cradley.

Aside from that the Heathens fans may have been away a while but they know a good un when they see one. In hushed tones on the terrace there's plenty a good word spoken about his undoubted potential. As you say he just needs to learn when and where to use his speed and find a way to weave a route through the traffic rather than barge through.

Jason Garrity is the new Kenny Carter for Heathens fans or as 21st says "Panto villan" he is a hard rider, very often takes no prisoners, exhuberant, and the worst criticism i can level against him is he is often impatient, but Jason i would have in The Heathens team Anyday, he has loads of natural ability, and as i have stated before reminds me very much of a young KC, once he learns to curb that impatience, and realises he actually has 4 whole laps to pass riders, then he will become one heck of a rider.
