Rye House (hackney) V Belle Vue

Boss man im sure you are a keen speedway fan and i dont recolect you having a go about any riders, nor have i ever said so .. I totally agree that prices at Rye are dearer than other tracks ,and that students should get a reduction .. All im saying is, it is of no interest to other people that some are not going to a certain meeting..And the number of fans on here doing that is getting boring.. Support speedway and the riders when you can afford to,, nothing wrong in that and keep the posts coming..It is all about differing opinions and never needs to get personal in any way..

Well it is of interest to me if many are going as it adds to the atmosphere and I’m sure it helps the riders to see a healthy crowd. It takes me 2 hours to get to Rye, I need my speedway but I also need friends around that I can chat with. All I stated was that 12 people I know were not going.

If you look back over PL thread you will see it’s me that has been sticking up for Hawkins.

I really admire young Ben and wish I had some spare cash to help him out, if ever I do then I will. I almost went over to have a chat with him at Lakeside, was going to give him my last £10 but got a little embarrassed that he may laugh at such a little offering. icon_redface.gif

Boss man you should never be embarressed to offer a rider any support however small you may think it is. All riders are extremely gratefull of any financial assistance... In the national league in particular with the very low pay rates most riders are struggling to make ends meet..so next time you feel so inclined take the bull by the horns ,, you will be surprised how grateful these young riders are..And i agree the atmosphere at meetings is important and that the cost does put people off.. That is a business decision by the promoters at all tracks,, that is the risk they take..Niether you or i can change that...

Is there anyone going to this meeting who would be able to text updates to the updates site? If so, could you please either leave a message here or send me an email or pm.

Thanks

Its a shame no updates ....The Hawks scraped home 48-39 in the end ,,Had Garrity arrived ( broke down on route) The result may well have been reversed..And im not joking,,Belle Vue rode well.. The Hawks will need to improve on this performance as a team if they are to challenge for the league title..Great performances though from Barrie Evans and Shane Hazelden..And to lesser degree Ben Morley and David Mason saw them through....

You are quite right well done those boys. The Colts did miss Jason and I'm sure they will be the first to admit it. Byron once again led from the front though he and Kyle who also did very well were a little unlucky in Ht 15. They were also hampered by the fact that they had to run 3 races on 3 riders as 3 rides had to be allocated to Jason that was a shame it may have been closer, had that not have been the case. Don't be too hard on the Hawks, they are allowed to have good days and bad days and I'm sure all involved have learned from today. Well done to Shane You have to give credit where credit is due, no matter what side you are on. :)

One sad thing I noticed tonight was a terrible atmosphere, whilst my girlfriend viewing for the first time wasn't exactly hooked although she wasn't put off attending in the future at some point. Absolutely gutted Garrity wasn't there, he's always entertaining to see and seems to be really becoming a top rider this season. The Colts were strong, Howarth impressing in particular. The Hawks Evans and Hazelden aside had a bad night at the office. Hopefully they will turn the corner for their next meeting. Hazelden is starting to look the real deal, some races he seems to want to get the job done all in one lap, otherwise there is a worry he will try too hard and fall of, but the lad's got a lot of speed and really isn't scared to mix it up with anyone, if I was picking a Hawk to promote to the Rockets next season, so far he'd be my man. As for Marc Owen, it's a shame to see him a little off the pace, however he is riding in a tough position within the team and i'm sure he will come good soon, we have a lot of young talent coming through and that can only bode well for the future of the Rockets.

Not a bad match at all as a rather unlucky Colts team went down narrowly. They certainly deserved to take something home from this one. Plenty of good races a few passes and a scoreline that always kept the interest there. Glad all the riders who took some nasty tumbles are ok.

The full 69 minute dvd will ba available at Rye House tomorrow and of course some action will be on the Mercury website on Tuesday morning.

I popped my head in to the Rye Stadium last night. It was reminisant of the 'Mary Celeste'. I estimate that there was in the region of 150 watching this match. Len needs to reduce his entrance prices for these matches, and quickly.

I agree about the prices a reduction may or may not bring in more people that is a management decision as they see it,, but there were a lot more than 150 there,,and dont forget i believe the GP was on the telly and the Rockets are at home on monday 7-45pm start by the way. Many can only afford one fix per weekend..

And also the robbed Spurs against Chelsea on Sky. Clearly the linesman at that game had been to the bspa refs school.

Entertaining match. No doubt Belle Vue would have won if Garrity had turned up and was half the rider we have heard about. They rode really well although again the Hawks , like the Rockets seem so slow from the gate.

Shane and Barry were fantastic. A couple of great moves from Ben Morley and steady riding from David Mason. Hopwood was poor save for heat 14. Freemantle tried hard against an experinced team.

I keep hearing calls for Owen to ride for the Rockets. Forget it. If he does nt make the start he gets nowhere. This kid needs to have a think about where he wants to go in this sport. He has a lot of natural talent but for some reason he looks like he is going backwards at Rye.

Crowd was poor but i'd have thought nearer 300. Im not sure this forum helps though with its negative comments.

These kids are the Rockets of tomorrow. They really do deserve some support.

I was going to mention Marc's gating. He got away with it during the match at the Arena Raceway as he was able to cut back off the second bend but his gating there was worse than anything I can remember during 40 years watching the sport. Maybe Lee Richardson can offer some guidance or Luke, who is pretty sharp at this himself, or is that girlfriend of Marc's a bit of a distraction?
