Polish Extraleague Rnd 4 Sunday 1st May

Recommended Posts

Another great race in Ht 7. Not so much passing, but Slawomir Musielak rode fantastically well to keep Adrian Miedzinski behind him. And Jaroslaw Hampel at the back. It's a great meeting.

Today we are seeing Polish speedway at it's best. Wonderfully entertaining. Our friend Racers and Royals is there, i believe. Wish i was there too. Thank you streamer (whoever you are!) for the next best thing to being there. Alan.

Holta looked close to tears there. Obviously a very painful injury and yet the fellow still rides like a demon. Great stuff from a very tough guy. And speaking of tough guys, Grigory Laguta is still unbeaten in Zielona Gora, where after thirteen heats the Lions are only four points down.

Well, that's that. A fine win for Torun over reigning champions Leszno. All the results for today were:

Ekstraliga

Wroclaw 45 : 45 Rzeszow

Tarnow 41 : 49 Gorzow

Zielona Gora 49 : 41 Czestochowa

Torun 50 : 40 Leszno

Liga I

Gniezno 43 : 47 Bydgoszcz

Grudziadz 52 : 35 Daugavpils (Ht 9 resulted in a 3-0 heat result)

Rybnik 38 : 52 Gdansk

Next week's treats should include the fierce derby clash between Gorzow and Zielona Gora.

I see KK scored 12 for Tarnow, So do Tarnow now play nice  . Hes down to race in Sweden On Tuesday, so how long before his UK ban is lifted.

Tarnow lost, again, so the mood will not have been improved. I would guess that the situation will be reviewed after the two week period has expired. The ban did not extend to Sweden and so I would anticipate Kasprzak taking his place on Tuesday.

One good piece of news for Unia Tarnow was that Sebastian Ulamek broke the track record in Ht 4 of Tarnow versus Gorzow meeting.

Gniezno 43, Miroslaw Jablonski 12 (5) , Scott Nicholls 9+1 (5), Michal Szczepaniak 8+1 (5) , Krzysztof Jablonski 6(5) , K Golmoski 4 (5) , Lewis Bridger 3 (2) , Oskar Fajfer 1+1 (2)

Bydgoszcz 47 , Grzegorz Walasek 13(5) , Denis Gizatullin 9+1 (5) , Emil Sayfutdinow 8+2(5) , Tomasz Gapinski 8(5) , Mikolaj Curylo 7+2(5), Robert Koschiecha 1+1(3) , Szymon Wozniak 1(2)

Not for us the glitz and glamour of the Extraleague , but it was the Division 1 clash between Start Gniezno and promotion favourites Polonia Bydgoszcz that attracted our interest , that and the fact it was only a half hour train journey from our Poznan base .

We were joined at Poznan station by the extremely friendly Mateusz for our trip to Gniezno , which made life easier for us non-Polish speakers .

We were at the track around 3 hours before the scheduled start time and made the clever move of buying our tickets there and then because , on our return to the track after a pleasant lunch the queues were massive . It was also a bit unnerving to see the local constabulary armed to the teeth watching your every move , though around heat 7 or 8 there was an attempt to hold a meeting of intellects between delegations of the home and away fan bases on the 3rd bend - that was thwarted quickly by the stewards though , without the assistance of Robocop and his mates .

Cracking stadium was bursting at the seams as both teams served up an entertaining encounter . The track was a bit on the slick and dusty side , despite the efforts of an impressive bowser , though that didn't detract for the fayre on show for the supporters .

After conceding an opening heat 5-1 , Bydgoszcz soon grabbed control of the meeting despite a muted performance from the boy wonder from Russia , who never won a heat .

The 4 point difference flattered the hosts and Bydgoszcz were in command as soon as they got their noses in front after heat 3 . The visitors were led by the impressive Walasek and the entertaining Gizatullin , while the hosts were well served by Miroslaw Jablonski , Scott Nicholls and Szczepaniak .

Probably the best 29 Zlotys i spent all weekend , as i fell in love with domestic Polish speedway .

Paulco nice that you enjoyed your match lower leagues are usually quite entertaining too sometimes even more that Extaliga as for Police presence they are there just in case things got out of hand it happens sometimes especially during derby matches(Zielona G-Gorzow,Bydgoszcz-Torun(when they are both in same div)Rzeszow -Tarnow) then you just have to be bit more dilligent and enjoy the match without taking sides or at least not showing it.

It must have been so difficult for Mateusz then who sat with us on Sunday in the Gneizno seating as he's a Polonia Bydgoszcz supporter.I know he had his Polonia scarf in his bag with him,but obviously didn't take it out!

One of only two fixtures to break the 10,000 attendance barrier on Sunday, here's some video footage of the Gniezno versus Bydgoszcz meeting:

The other meeting to break 10,000 was Zielona Gora versus Czestochowa, while Torun versus Leszno was just a couple of hundred or so shy of 10,000.

Would have been way harder if Bydgoszcz had lost the match. In this case, though, I could just smile secretly to myself  Still, couldn't resist from showing my joy a couple of times :) And a Polonia Bydgoszcz scarf burned by some local morons just in front of a pub down the road from the stadium proved it had been a sensible decision not to take mine out at the stadium
