i had a browse at my mates copy of the book at rye house today. it looks like a decent read but i don't think i'd pay 27 quid for it.

Hmm, well but that's only seven quid more than the books Jeff Scott produces and this one actually contains stuff of interest and value... As opposed to pages and pages of utterly pointless non-anecdotes, huge repetition, shocking grammar and harmful personal snipes...

Parsloes: You seem to have your head in a bigger black hole than I do. Why not try and think: I'll have that book and I will pay for it - whatever it costs. I have never let the price of a book (and being of modest means) prevent me from purchasing a book that I wanted badly enough. Its okay to be tight with yourself of course (if you feel that you need to be ) and many are - but to publicise that fact - well..

I'll purchase a copy of it by the sounds of it..

Think (not er actually I KNOW) you've totally missed the point...!!

I am making no adverse comment on the price of any book..

Where did you possibly get the idea from that I was...

If Jeff's pointless and thoroughly objectionable books were given away free with Corn Flakes I'd still say they weren't worth the considerable amount of paper they're printed on!!

Jeff's books btw was my diversion off the thread (sorry...) Howard and John's book is excellent and I thoroughly endorse the positive comments made about it.

It seems to me - that between you and speedyguy, the pair of you have turned this section into a complete pigs ear….:rofl:

In what way? What is wrong in pointing out that there has previously been another book with a similar title, written as it happens by a well-respected person in the sport i.e Martin Rogers? So far, I have not made any criticism of the new book - but I won't be doing that anyway as I have better things to spend £27plus on. And apart from pointing out the similarity in book titles the now departed from this thread speedyguy hasn't made any criticism of the book either. The puzzle is why did he delete his original posts - that would seem to be out of character for him.

In what way? You want me to tell you? You are asking me? Your posts on the speedway history forum are generally the most negative posts imaginable. Personally, I dont give a toss if a book comes out with a title that is written that has been used before or not. If its a book that has been well written and has pics I like, I will buy it. Whatever the costs. Why speedyguy deletes posts its is up to him, and who generally comes over as a 'brick short of a load' as you do. This speedway vintage thing is very small and getting smaller as we all get alll older and a younger generation cares lest but whilst we try to keep it alive its not what matters to me more than anything else...Least of all your sad comments to try make yourselves to be more interested than you really are it seems...

You seem to be on the "angry pills" tonite, James!!

Yes I DID post that but this is clearly defending the price tag of this book - saying it's only seven quid more than Mr. Scott's tomes but unlike said efforts of the sainted Jeff, it (Howard's book...) is far superior as it contains, as I say, "stuff of interest and value"...

How much clearer can I make it!!

May I intervene without upsetting you? I think Jack Keen makes a good sensible point in what he says, while I also feel it's of interest to know that there have been two books with similar titles. There's no harm in mentioning that. It won't stop me buying the latest book in any way. When I first saw the mention about two titles I thought how interesting that was. I don't know what the speedway history forum is but if I was Mr Keen I'd pull my membership of it after reading this. From the way you put this response over it looks to me that you have a deeper resentment of both Jack Keen and speedyguy beyond their harmless mentions on here that there have been two books with similar titles. Grow up man! As I said at the start I don't want to upset you but fancy I probably have.

Excuse me but - and I apologise if I am wrong are you the person that wanted the proposed New Cross walk about to suit you and was quite miffed when it was not? You people dont upset me.. I feel sorry for you. Like I said who really cares that another book has the same title. Some do obviously.

My view is just that they are pointing out an interesting fact - a coincidence in titles. Harmless.

The Illustrated History of Speedway.

The Illustrated History of 100+ British Speedway Tracks.

Not that much of a coincidence.

Definitely not an interesting fact.

Well they're incredible comments from the speedway history moderator to a member. Perhaps one should ask him to look up a dictionary to find out what the word moderator means - I think its something about respecting all opinions.
