Some good racing today, but the meeting was awfully one-sided. After winning many plaudits, although no league points, for their escapades in the first two meetings of their season, the Lions whimpered rather than roared this afternoon. The Green Mountaineers were just so superior out of the traps. Czestochowa just had no answer to them, although Laguta (Waguta) Snr's sorry succession of stoppages didn't help matters. An exciting rider, to be sure, but it's no good passing everyone only to grind to a halt a lap later.

One should rather blame his mechanics around him. Greg Laguta is a brilliant rider, one of the best in teh world and certainly superior to his little brother Artem - and the little one is a GP rider already. If only Grigory would have some reliable machinery this guy could be a world champion.

You see, the Polish commentator pronounces it Waguta.

That will mean nothing, unless you've read the "GP Challenge Final" thread from last season. There was a bit of a debate as to whether it was Laguta or Waguta. The Poles certainly seem to transliterate it as Łaguta, which would be Waguta in English.

Still no idea why the Poles do that, but it's not the way it's pronounced in his native language.

I reckon the Poles are just plain wrong :D

Should also add that I agree with other comments that Grigory is a great rider. A shame that his machinery is letting him down so far this season, but I'm sure he'll get it sorted soon. I'm sure there will be a few big names in the Extraliga get a shock off him this season before it's done.

But Laguta bros in Russian are: Лагутa. You pronounce it "Waguta". Aren't you?

Sorry, I missed this reply until now.

My Russian language "teacher" didn't suggest that "Лагутa" should be pronounced "Waguta".

However, her suggested pronunciation of the letter "Л" wasn't exactly the same as the British "L", but it also wasn't the same as our "W". It was something that isn't quite in an "English language" pronunciation.

I considered it to be closer to "L" than "W", and when I hear "Лагутa" on video from a Russian commentator I hear it more as a British "L" than a "W"...

Maybe my complaint about the Poles using Ł for Л is more about my lack of understanding of how Ł should be pronounced in Polish....although, having said that, what I hear for Лагутa on Polish commentary isn't what I expect to hear having heard it on Russian commentary...But, maybe Polish TV just have commentators that pronounce foreign names as badly as the Sky commentators do :D

Chris Bomber Harris. Unless you pronounce b in Bomber you're no longer a Polish speedway commentator

It is never easy with these things.I would guess even in Russia there are variations.Although when i have asked work colleagues from Russia and Kazakhstan they say there isn't much difference. But Sky commentators pronounciations of most of the Danish riders doesn't match with the names i hear being announced at the meetings

Could you provide video with Russian comentator saying "Laguta"? In Polish between "L" and "Ł" is huge difference,
