SCB
not very fair Shazz...thought we weren't allowed to mention things like that Wasn't he stopped coming through customs once while with Kelly Moran? Or have I got my Americans mixed up?! Any way, I said Bobby Schwartz on the Newport forum last week and he's had most votes on here so I must have been right!!! (not bad for a young 'un!) fatface
Wasn't he stopped coming through customs once while with Kelly Moran? Or have I got my Americans mixed up?! Kelly, Shawn, Bobby Schwartz. I think they were all caught at some point or other for possessing strange substances. Actually if you throw in Mike Lee, Mitch Shirra, Gary Havelock and Frank Smart you have a pretty decent "Drugs Select Team"
stevehone
and if you throw in all the ones that never got caught you would have world beaters
shazzybird
Shame on you... half of that is unconfirmed rumours, you're just speculating to accumalate a team

norbold
It's taken me some time to get round to this but I'll go for two riders who, in my opinion, are the best never to have appeared in a World Final since it started in 1936: Max Grosskreutz Ron Johnson
spin king
Never heard of those two you must go back along way.
Gemini
Not that far back. He's only a very young man in his 40's. He has obviously read about them in books.

Those were the days, though you are right in principle that I'm not THAT old. Actually I did see Ron Johnson ride in 1960 in a second half race at New Cross when he was over 50. I don't think he would have made any World Final that year!
spin king
Further back than me I can only just remember 1971, and I am approaching 40.
boxer123
I saw Ron Johnston (I know not even spelt the same!) come 5th at Wembley 1960.
norbold
Actually Ron Johnson's real name was Ron Johnston...but let's not get in to that one.
Gemini
Oh go on. Was it because there was already a Ron Johnston - the New Zealand one? Suppose I am complete wrong and they didn't even ride at the same time.
norbold
Oh go on. Was it because there was already a Ron Johnston - the New Zealand one? Suppose I am complete wrong and they didn't even ride at the same time. Yes, you're right, you're completely wrong. Ron Johnson was one of the Aussie pioneers, came to this country in 1928 with Johnnie Hoskins. Although, he was actually born in Edinburgh, his family emigrated when he was 3. So it has nothing to do with the other Ron Johnston, who was a post war rider. Now, you're going to ask me why he changed his name.....The problem is I can't remember off hand!!! I'll look it up in his autobiography when I get home...the only problem is I won't be going home until next Thursday (22 January) as I'm off to Lanzarote later. I hope you can wait! Ian
I seem to recall that the reason for the change of spelling, according to Hoskins Junior (so that'll be right enough, then!) was that "Johnston" is the Scottish version of the name. It will be recalled that Ron did, on occasion, ride for Scotland. In the same circumstance, however, we still await enlightenment from Ian Hoskins as to what the correct Scottish spelling of Reidar Eide is. It's a pretty fair bet that if Berwisk were currently under the Hoskins banner they would be tracking one Michael McOvsky, though!
BeesFan
What about Gary Guglielmi ?Alan & Andy Grahame,Alan Molyneux,Alf Busk,of course Booey!!Jimmy Mcmillian,Did Chris Morton ever appear?Peter Ravn. What about Lance King? Martin Dugard?(he rode in GP's as Wild card but recall a world final).
fatface
Did Chris Morton ever appear? Are you trying to wind me up!!!
Ryan
What about Lance King? Martin Dugard?(he rode in GP's as Wild card but recall a world final). Lance King appeared in three World Finals - 1983, 1984, and 1985. He finished 3rd in 1984. He was tied with Erik Gundersen after four rounds, but lost to him when they met head-to-head in the final round. He then lost the runoff for 2nd Place to Hans Nielsen. Had he won, I believe he would've been the youngest World Champion ever at 21 years old. I think that Dugard was in the 1990 World Final, but I'm not sure. Guest Rod King
What about ...of course Booey...Jimmy Mcmillian Booey? Nigel Boocock? I saw him ride in a world final at Wembley in the 1970s. Jim McMillan made it to a World Final as reserve.
