Janusz Kołodziej

Recommended Posts

So far, these are whispers only. No media has officially confirmed that Kolodziej suffers from anorexia. Also, the boy has always been tiny and light. I haven't noticed any major weight drop recently. Anyone else has?

Also note that Sandra Rakiej (author) is rather a feuilleton writer than a news reporter for Sportowe Fakty.

I must admit, when I read about the suggestion of him being ill, I thought he's always been a smaller person.

I genuinely hope it's not true and if it is, it can be sorted ASAP.

Totally agree Shawn. Hope Its just the media twisting stuff.

Just wondered if anyone knew why JK always wears those motocross type race gear, they don't look right in speedway.

I will add my agreement to those already here. I suspect (and hope) it is nothing but idle gossip.

I do think Janusz lost a bit of weight before last season, when he was returning to the Extraliga, but it was just a bit, and nothing different from what Nicki did a few years ago when he got serious about training and eating right.

Of course, he then had another sudden weight loss just before the first GP of the year when he shaved his head :D

As for the Moto-X gear...Agree again. It just doesn't look right. I always think it looks ugly on a speedway rider when they have a jersey blowing around.

Couldn't agree more. That era around late 90s, early 2000s was horrendous image wise. Glad it didn't stick.

They are a hell of a lot cheaper than the suits but they don't belong in speedway and never will.

As for JK, I would say it's more likely training and healthy diet, as suggested.

Without going in too deep to this subject, the reasons behind mx gear and his weight loss is all about performance. Less total mass (bike and rider) equals faster accelerator in speedway if nothing else, and we saw some pretty amazing stuff from kolo last year. His methods include (this is confirmed by a polish trainer) losing a couple of kg's before each meeting by using a sweatsuit and then getting the kg's back later.

My opinion is that it's stupid, but then again Kolo has been mentioned as THE rider of 2010 outside the GP's, so I guess it's working for him. Probably it'll continue to work for until the first knock comes his way when a bit of fat and muscle would have saved the day...

I guess jockeys have been doing it for years and their races often last a bit longer than a minute. There was a reasonably successful jockey (Cheltenham Gold Cup-winner) lived down the road from me and he took up smoking to keep his weight under control when the march of time and injuries made it harder by other means.

Judging from that article they're expecting slimmer versions of Nicki P, Zagar and Iversen to turn up at Gorzow this season.

All the Swedish papers are headlining Fredrik Lindgren today/yesterday, who's now worried that due to new exhausts riders need to become lighter and he's afraid anorexia might become a problem in speedway. He mentions "a rider" in last years GP challenge that spent time in his van with the heat turned on before the meeting in order to sweat/lose weight...

Just read that article. Very worrying!

Incidents of that nature were mentioned in the article on sportowefakty.pl about Kołodziej. Gollob seemed to advocate a minimum weight for rider and machine being adopted, but, knowing Gollob, the suggested minimum would probably be the combined weight of Tomasz Gollob and his bike.
