Nickname Query No. 2

In light of the recent discussion regarding Middlesbrough, I've been wondering which team has used the most nicknames.

Middlesbrough have been the 'Bears', 'Tigers', and 'Teessiders'.

Long Eaton have been the 'Archers', 'Rangers', and 'Invaders'.

Hackney have been the 'Hawks', 'Kestrels', and 'Wolves'.

Barrow have been the 'Happy Faces', 'Blackhawks', and 'Furness Flyers'.

Any advance on three, do you know?

Barrow was also the Bombers for the seasons of 1973 and 74 I think.

There's quite a few others with 3, but

at Odsal there were the...

Bradford Boomerangs

Bradford Tudors

Bradford Northern

and

Bradford Dukes

and in Dorset they've had the

Weymouth Scorchers

Weymouth Royals

Weymouth Eagles

Weymouth Wizards

and

Weymouth Wildcats

Thanks, guys. Must admit, I'd never heard of the 'Scorchers'... I should have thought of Bradford, and I'd forgotten about the Barrow 'Bombers'.

Oxford Cheetahs (too many seasons to mention)

Oxford Rebels (British League 1972-1975)

Oxford Cubs (Amateur League 1997) (i.e. NL level)

Oxford Silver Machine (Elite League 2003-2005)

Oxford Silver Machine Kids (Conference League: first part of 2003)

Oxford Silver Machine Academy (Conference League 2003-2005)

Oxford Lions (Conference League 2007)

All the best

That's two clubs in one though Rob, I'd call that cheatin' icon_smile_tongue.gif

Hi Steve,

I think of it more as being creative. ;)

Ok, let's stick to the third division teams:

Oxford Cubs (1997)

Oxford Kids (early 2003)

Oxford Academy (rest of 2003 through to 2005)

Oxford Lions (early 2007)

Oxford Cheetahs (later in 2007)

Is that more honest for you?

All the best

Rob
