CrystalCastles
Too add to that youngsters can join the merger club, and have the chance to join either club when they are ready for the Premier League. I personally think its great spinny no downsides imo.
lucifer sam
Are Scunny still planning their double headers on the May and August bank holidays? I'd miss these if they weren't there. All the best Rob
YorkshirePudding
Too add to that youngsters can join the merger club, and have the chance to join either club when they are ready for the Premier League. yeh i agree. scunny fans who seem abit displeased about it need to look at the bigger picture. now the team is better funded, the riders will gain more experience and better chance of getting a PL contract
spin king
And maybe Sheffield with give them an excellent leader to help guide the excellent you riders that they have in the Saints/Prowlers team.
Lewis
I can understand the reservations of some of our supporters & lets not forget the likes of June & Albert are good fans & have balanced sensible views & have made interesting posts on here on many occasions so I think there opinion is very valuable. With the scorpions having more home matches this year & HOPEFULLY a more balanced schedule without the extended periods of no speedway, this will mean we dont lose any matches to watch but gain a few at the EWR with the chance of an extra 4 to wach at Sheffield. On this occasion I personally am really looking forward to the tie-up, anything to make the riders more successfull & better prepared for the future is positive...any chance of Cooper riding as #1 to bring on the youngsters?? Fozzie4388
I m disappointed in the Attitude by some people when someone mentioned the Hull name. Especially When Scunthorpe ran a team in a little 2nd half league ran at Hull in the last 2 years before the Vikings demise. However i do agree that having the Vikings running as a team at Scunthorpe or Sheffield in the National League wouldnt work.

I think the promotions have answered that question, by saying that the team will be run as Scunthorpe/ Sheffield and race as Scunthorpe at the EWR and as Sheffield at Owlerton, and share the name away. I via Junior put forward using the Hull, more to keep the Hull name alive, but like I said whats in a name, and probably the way that they have done it is probably the best way of dealing with the name of the team. PhilK
Because they are the Saints and have been for 3 years. Why change the name ......NL 10 teams = 18 meetings......only 4 meetings at Sheffield. ? But only 5 at Scunthorpe, as the other 9 will be away meetings! Don't get what you are trying to say there? Yes i know its been announced about the names what i meant was. If they had decided to run it as Hull i didnt think it would work, Say the team ride at Sheffield on thursdays not many people from Hull would be able to do the 60+ mile journey after work/college etc and as for riding at Scunny, Some Hull fans wouldnt think it would be viable to go watch National League speedway at £15+ when you take into consideration the over the top toll prices of the Humber Bridge. Anyway Good Luck to Both Parties i m sure it will all work out well.
scunny1
29 miles to Hull from Scunny -you must go the scenic route less than via the A1077/A15. http://www.thisisscunthorpe.co.uk/sport/Saints-squad-link-Sheffield/article-3205613-detail/article.html this is the link confirming the home match will be split between Scunthorpe & Owlerton. I see some feel let down & I can understand the sentiment BUT I do believe that as it was running the Saints must have been operating at a loss, with the stockcars covering the cost. Tying up with Sheffield should give a bigger catchment, 2 different tracks to specialise in, potentially more fans, split costs (profits or losses). I dont know anything about the name changing but it would make more sense next year maybe to have some form of name-tie up to encourage the Sheffield fans as they could hardly be exepcted to support Scunthorpe even if they are riding at Owlerton. Regarding the Hull name, I dont think this has anything to do with Scunny? geographically you could say we are the closest team, at 29 miles though & in a different county you could hardly say there is anything in common? Dont get me wrong I used to watch the Vikings as a lad, thoroughly enjoyed it & I know Scunthorpe have supporters from Hull & I would like nothing more than for them to compete again, in fact I'd even go watch but to associate them with teams 29 & 65 miles away doesnt make sense to me. Lol too, I just put it in AA route finder to get a distance, being from Barton the A1077 is definitely the route for me too

YorkshirePudding
Cooper leading the team would be great! would be entertaining and a very good rider in the NL plus he brings the team together with his personality. would be a good confidence building season for Coops after his injury. PhilK
Good news indeed Rob, although I too prefered a 3pm start! Scorpions v Ipswich followed by Saints v Mildenhall Would be a perfect D/H.

Parsloes 1928 nearly
Rob Godfrey quoted, ".. the team will appear as Scunthorpe/Sheffield in the league table, but will race as Scunthorpe Saints at Scunthorpe and as Sheffield at Sheffield, probably resurrecting the Prowlers nickname. If, for argument's sake, the Isle of Wight come to Scunthorpe, it will be Scunthorpe who will go to the Isle of Wight for the return fixture but if Buxton go to Sheffield, then it will be Sheffield who go to Buxton” Gosh, that away match 'protocol' seems remarkably confusing...?! Surely in reality as an away team, it'll have to be the combined Scunthorpe/Sheffield name won't it..?!
