I also understand a certain Mr Long was master of cerimonies last night, now if that man came back to do the job on matchdays !, how much would that improve things, no offence to the others that have done the job, but since Kevin packed it in, it just has not been the same.

I completely agree..... please bring back Mr. Long! ..... he made a great night even better (If possible) on Saturday night. It would just make sunday afternoons perfect! :D

Cameron Heeps signed on a 3pt average at reserve for the Fen Tigers. Announced at Fen Tigers forum tonight.

Understandably dwarfed by all the surrounding issues concerning the court case, but this is a cracking signing and one which I would imagine will have disappointed some potential suitors. Saw this lad ride at Monmore and Perry Barr last season using machinery loaned by Ty Proctor who rates him very highly indeed.

Yes it has been dwarfed by the court case.

Cracking signing. Looking forward to watching him.

That's interesting fourentee, what were your impressions of Cameron?

Neat stylist, quick learner, level head, long-term ambition. Did what you might call the installation laps and then methodically picked up the pace. Proctor also regards him as a good listener. I shall be very interested in his progress; I would imagine West Row would suit him too.

FWIW a very pleasant lad to talk to as well.

Cameron Heeps was born on 27th October 1995, so is 15.

Australian with a GB Passport I assume.

HEEPS, Cameron Andrew George

DATE OF BIRTH: 27 October 1995, Perth, Western Australia.

BRITISH CAREER: (2011) Mildenhall.

MAJOR HONOURS: Western Australia Under-16 Champion: 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010.

2011 STARTING AVERAGE: 3.00 (NL).

ADDITIONAL INFO: The teenage Aussie sensation – who listed his favourite riders as Leigh Adams, Ty Proctor and Frank Smart – was unveiled as Mildenhall’s fifth signing for their new look National League side at a packed ‘Support the Tigers’ night at West Row on 5 March 2011.

Co-promoter Chris Louis believed that the Fen Tigers had had signed the hottest prospect from Down Under for the campaign, as he joined the previously announced James Brundle, Jack Hargreaves, Joe Jacobs and Olly Rayson in the line-up.

A number of clubs had been looking at ‘Camo’ but, when he heard that he would be getting the chance to work with Michael Lee and joining a young vibrant team, he had no hesitation in choosing Mildenhall.

Aged just 4, Heeps began riding in 1999 at Bibra Lake Speedway and one of his most embarrassing moments occurred shortly afterwards, when he hit the wall at Narrogin Speedway. However, he recovered quickly to make astonishing strides, before becoming a junior solo rider in 2005. That year saw him claim third place in the Western Australia Under-16 State Championship.

Then, in 2006, he took first place in the Western Australia Under-16 Championship. And that was the start of five successive title victories in the WA Under-16 category. His 2009 success came at Pinjar Park, where he scored a maximum 12 points in the heats, prior to taking victory in the final.

Thanx for this Mike.

Competing in six and winning FIVE consecutive State championships at such a junior age range (under 16) can't surely have ever been done before by anyone... Amazing... :approve:

I didnt think you could claim patrality until you were 17 years old???

I said 'with a GB passport I assume'.

The word you are looking for is patrial - which means - having the right to live in the UK through the British birth of a parent or a grandparent. A person with this right has patriality.

Your question is probably best addressed to the BSPA I'd say. This debate was done to death in last seasons National League section!

Thought you had snared Authur Sissis when i read the headline.

Interesting story in an Aus speedway mag that Sissis and Heeps competed in a senior meeting in WA.

Peter white the scribe was suggesting it must have been a black meeting which should result in a ban.

And i believe you need MA clearance before you can take out a license in the UK.

Junior

  • 2 weeks later...

Just seen in the Speedway Star concessions for students is only up to the age of 22, and remains at the price of £10 with a free programme. Can someone confirm if this is correct? There are students older than 22... I presume production of a valid student id, eg NUS Card, would be sufficient regardless of age?

That's a bit of a cheek... I'm over 60 and I have a valid NUS card. I'm also under 65 and at some tracks, I wouldn't get an OAP concession - even though I'm a pensioner - which I think is a bit sexist - surely they realise there are female supporters of any age.
