Bspa

Reading between the lines in the latest Speedway Star I get the distinct impression that the BSPA closing down 2 tracks (Mildenhall & Weymouth) has more to do with certain members of the NL, those who aren't standalone clubs, not wanting the extra fixture congestion that these clubs would generate. That appears to be the general impression i come away with from reading the standalone NL clubs articles. Is that right impression?

I don't think that even their most vitriolic critic can accuse the BSPA of closing Weymouth down. That seems to be a matter of a landlord who just doesn't want the speedway there.

Where Mildenhall are concerned, from posts on here it seems as though some believe that they aren't wanted full stop. The thing is though that the new bid to resurrect the Fen Tigers has been received 'positively' by the BSPA which suggests to me that it was Steve Ribbons they didn't like, not Mildenhall as such.

We'll see.

sorry, i realise what you say with regards to Weymouth, but i mean't less that they've actually closed them down, more that it's may not be in the interests of certain NL clubs that they reappear.

I understand that Steve's role was not at the centre of the objections. As ever there appears to be far more to the situation than people are assuming. There have already been recriminations over the information that has emerged from the meeting so it would be unfair of me to elaborate further. The key point is that it was far from being all about Steve and it would be unfair for that to become a forum 'fact'.

I don't think that is true but I can't really give any explanation for that. Certainly Peter Morrish has expressed concern at the lack of stand alone clubs in the league.

I am operating on hearsay, Rob, but I have had three opinions on this one. Two are from people I have a great deal of time and one I don't know from Adam but who seems very well informed.

One very much supports your view, the others do not.

Bluntly, I am not sure who to believe :(

The only thing I find surprising is that if this isn't about Steve Ribbons and is largely about Mildenhall, why are they now considering a further bid - you would think that that would be a straight rejection.

Yes, you are operating on hearsay, as am I. On that basis I think it unwise to keep repeating, as you have in other threads that the reason Mildenhall was turned down was just Steve when you have no proof of this and have beebn told by two sources that matters were far more complex than that.

I would suggest and politely request that you stop repeating this 'fact' on this forum. We constantly see rumour and hearsay repeated on this forum until it becomes 'fact'. I am not going to say for certain what happened at that meeting but I do have strong, credible suggestions that there was a greater problem than a dislike of Steve.

At no point have I said it was fact, just my opinion. As I have said above, I really don't know.

If anybody wants to take that as fact, that is their doing, not mine.

I have 'strong, credible' suggestions that it was down to him, but I have had another that said it was not.

Unlike yourself who have said 'The key point is that it was far from being all about Steve' which is an assertion, not an opinion, I have made it clear that I don't know.
