Shadders
Totally agree for 3rd division racing. If you have kids £34 is steep, especially compared to other activities: - Greyhounds at romford would be £20 (free on a Sat morning) - Cinema £25 for family (£10 on weekend mornings) - Transport Museum - £27 for annual passes for all 4 Surely Len would get more from the concessions via higher admissions if he reduced the prices even a bit? He seems to have a blind spot when it comes to concessions. Only OAP's get a couple of quid reduction. Nothing for students, registered disabled or families. shippy22
For pensioners it is cheaper to go to Elite League meetings at Belle Vue, than National League meetings at Rye House !!! I am another supporter who will be giving the NL meetings at Rye a miss, and also for the first time since supporting the Rockets in 1968, will be picking and chosing Premier League meetings. For 1 adult and 1 OAP, Rye House is now dearer for PL meetings than any Elite track ( apart from Eastbourne). I wouldnt have minded paying more if Len Silver had spent money on altering the track to try and improve the racing ( as Glasgow have done). Too many meetings at Rye House are run on a dry, slick, dusty track with very little overtaking.

What Lakeside are charging is less than Rye House in nearly every category. The programmes are more but even they are free if you are a season ticket holder and it is half-price admission for Hawks' matches as well in those circumstances. Other than that full paying adults are charged £16 at each and concessions for Lakeside are actually less. Lakeside have introduced a comprehensive pricing structure which can be found on their website under 'details.' http://www.lakesidehammers.com/ Details of charges for the Good Friday double-header are here:- 'Admission prices for the season have been announced and will stay at the 2010 levels, although the Club will review them mid season should the economic situation require. The Good Friday Bank Holiday (22nd April) double header will see a minimal rise of £1.50 on Adults prices and £1 on Concessions with Kids admission remaining the same at £3. In addition those fans of the Hawks and their NL opposition on the night will be able to pay for that meeting only with admission after Heat 15 of the Elite League meeting set at £5 for adults, £4 for concessions and Kids for free.' I have said in the past that I feel Len has made a mistake by never introducing a season ticket scheme. 25yearfan
The prices for a Hackney meeting are way to steep for a 3rd tier level meeting but obviously getting Len Silver to admitt hes wrong about something takes some doing as he doesn't listen to many! In the past for Rye House NL meetings Len had free admission which worked cause they get a decent crowd in who all spend money on programmes, the bar, burgers and the delicious Fish and Chips, easily the best food that any British speedway stadium provides. -Lets admitt it many a dull Rye House meeting is made bareable by a portion of the their delicious Fish and Chips! JC!
He seems to have a blind spot when it comes to concessions. Only OAP's get a couple of quid reduction. Nothing for students, registered disabled or families. Len seems to miss every trick like this, kids meals liked to adults at the chippy or go see the rockets get the Hawks at half price, but especially the disabled/students who often have the decision to go taken out of their hands by these prices. I mean, the NL team should be a low cost alternative for those who cannot afford PL but it will end up costing the same!!
semion
Maybe Uncle Lennie is trying to attract a new crowd into watching the Hawks. I read that Dudley attracted 1000 people for their home meeings, mainly old fans of Cradley.

25yearfan
Anyone who thinks that Hackneys return can be as well supported as Dudleys last season are living in cloud cuckoo land! Cradley speedway were one, if not the best supported track in the Country who only closed cause their stadium was sold from underneath them! Hackney struggled for crowds for years and finally closed in 1991 because the struggling couldn't prop up a track that was not well supported! In 1996 Terry Russell reopened speedway at Hackney and again it was not well supported!
Parsloes 1928 nearly
For pensioners it is cheaper to go to Elite League meetings at Belle Vue, than National League meetings at Rye House !!! Hmm, only if you happen to a pensioner who spends the early part of each week living in Manchester and the end of the week at your second home in the northern half of the M25 area!! Ben91
the problem is ben, it was 10 quid last year and no one went. if you are a premier league track that runs 2 teams, most of your fans will only watch the senior side. in these hard economic times putting the prices up will drive more fans away from supporting both rye teams. I know, as I was there every week... This is just taking the p*** too much now. I was really looking forward to seeing the Hawks this season, however the prices will mean I do 1, maybe 2 home meetings, with the rest I attend in 2011 being Rockets meetings. The fact I can't pay student prices too is ridiculous, I won't plead poverty because that isn't true, however if it wasn't for my loyalty to my own team I'd be tempted to go to Lakeside on a friday evening, I'd get in cheaper. Maybe Uncle Lennie is trying to attract a new crowd into watching the Hawks. I read that Dudley attracted 1000 people for their home meeings, mainly old fans of Cradley. That won't work. Promoters need to look at how to bring new fans into the sport, not just bringing back old ones by reviving their defunct team. Dudley was the exception, not the rule, because the promotion is seperate to Wolverhampton/Birmingham.

Come to the Arena Raceway on Good Friday and watch the Hawks for £4 or both meetings for £13. Action starts at 1pm with the Hawks' following the EL match against Eastbourne. semion
If Uncle Lennie is not looking to attract old Hawks fans, why has the whole thing been re-branded under the Hackeny name ? I assumed he was trying to follow the template laid down by Dudley, and trying to tap into people who werent already regular speedway fans. The way things are at the moment I wonder how many Speedway fans have the spare cash to enjoy 2 nights of Speedway each week.
Parsloes 1928 nearly
Thats a strange answer Whichever way you dress it up, NL at Rye is extortionate. Er, it's not a strange answer... It was reacting to a point, spurious in the extreme, about it beimg cheaper for a pensioner to get in at Belle Vue than at a Hawks meeting at RH. They're at opposite ends of the country so price comparisons aren't and never could be relevant...
Bagpuss
Why not? Its comparing EL to NL, and without getting into an argument about which is more entertaining the prices for the two should not stack up like that.
JCookie
As someone who works in Gorton and has a mistress in Hoddesdon these prices are nothing short of ridiculous.
scribbler
Er, it's not a strange answer... It was reacting to a point, spurious in the extreme, about it beimg cheaper for a pensioner to get in at Belle Vue than at a Hawks meeting at RH. They're at opposite ends of the country so price comparisons aren't and never could be relevant... Why? The fact that a concession rate at an EL meeting is cheaper than a concession rate at an NL meeting is a serious issue. Goods and services aren't that much cheaper in the North - in fact they can be more expensive. I'm a southerner living in the north so I do have the experience of knowing the relevance of such issues. It's often a fallacy that things are cheaper in the north than the south - and my pension is the same here as it would be if I was living back in the South. semion
You certainly deserve more pension living in The North.
Roger MARTIN
P/L prices at Plymouth for the coming season. £12 for Adults. £5 for Children 8 to 15. £9 OAP'S age 65 and over. £9 Students with valid student union membership card. £30 Family ticket which admits two children and two adults. £250 for a season ticket for a minimum of 24 meetings. Children under 8 will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult. I think that is very good value for anyone to go and watch a PL meeting.
