Aussies Of Kiwis?

To assist with some research we're doing for an article to appear in the next issue of Backtrack magazine, can anyone please confirm whether any of the following ex-riders were Australians or New Zealanders and, where known, the states/cities they originated from?

Alongside the names are the seasons in which they first rode in the UK, along with the name of their first club.

Many thanks for your help.

Cheers, Tony Mac

Hello Tony, Just a few corrections etc, to the list supplied by Frigbo. Brian Donovan came from the Manchester area, Geoff Langmaid I believe from near Lincoln, John Bowerman, a very colourful character from Sydney, Dave Buttigieg I believe was English and was in fact a National Karting champion at the time of him trying speedway for a very short time, and surely Chris Blythe was a good mate of Malcolm Mackay the pair coming over to Britain together about 1969 / 70, All the best Rod Haynes,

Rod,

I think Blythe (like MacKay) was born in England but emigrated to Aus. I've got Chris Blythe as being born in Liverpool.

Max Amor was a kiwi. From New Plymouth. He passed away on 30.10.09 in California. Merv Salt began riding at the Templeton track in Christchurch, N.Z. in the mid 1960s and continued riding there until the early 1980s. He rode as a kiwi.

denny morter came from the ipswich area, buttigieg, foot and chaldicot started at the matchems training school in the early seventies, buttigieg i believe was born in malta and was a regular in the poole team in 1973 for a while then he packed in to concentrate on karting.he would of been a very good rider, other trainees at matchems were the better known martin yeates, steve lomas and geoff swindells who with russel foot can be seen at poole on racenights.

Just to say thanks to all for your help, it's much appreciated.

We've compiled a list of Anzacs who rode for British teams in the period 1970-1990 (inc) and there were several question marks, which I hope that, between us, we've now resolved.
