I started watching the Sheffield Tigers in 1961, but unfortunately I have not kept any programs from that era. I can remember most of the riders but I wondered if anyone could provide any sort of access to that seasons performances, results and scorers.

Thanks for the reply but I'd already looked there and there's very little about 1961.

 

I would be very interested in the very first match I watched which was against Plymouth and seem to remember the score as being 43-53 to Plymouth. I also think that Ron Bagley top scored for them and very shortly after was transferred to Sheffield.

No,it seems to vanish from the fixture list after 1961,returns as you say in '67 and stays at Owlerton until 1982.

Then '83 & '84 at B.Vue & Halifax before reverting for all future NRCs: - Do we know why ? - Owlerton was still running those 2 yrs. - ?

I believe that after finishing his career Clive Featherby emigrated to Australia, I also that Col Smith was indeed the same Col Smith who rode for Coventry. Afraid I could not tell you anything about Tony Robinson other than he went into the haulage business after finished his career and yes he will be now 75.

I think I get mixed up between Col Smith and Col Cottrell-did the latter pass away? Also can anyone confirm that Feathers is indeed in Aussie. BTW Tigertom-Sheffield were always a strong team in PL days-great visitors to Somerton and of course Owlerton was a joy to visit-beautiful track, a sight to be seen under the floodlights and friendly people too-will have to try and visit again one day.

Sorry Tigertom-plus who are you calling a Southerner-I am from Wales-or do you mean Southern Ontario-anyway my remarks on the great visits to Owlerton still stand-is it much the same as it always was-used to look great at night with the track lights on-just pass Hillsborough on the other side of the road as I recall.

It is still a good night out. Went to the northern Riders this year only for it to be rained out! Met up with my friends though, well some weho came in after the rain out. Nice Bar nice beer (Stones Best Bitter)
