steve19620
Hi there. As part of my research into the 1973 season I am trying to work out where Cliff Hindle (father of Ian) scored a point for the Saints as a "fill in" during the 1973 season. According to both the Speedway Star and Mail he failed to score in the official league fixtures at Barrow (17 July) and Ellesmere Port (30 October), yet the official averages advises that he scored 1 point in 5 rides. Does anybody have a completed programme for either/both these meetings to confirm where this point was scored, in what heat and who was the rider he replaced. Any help would be appreciated ! This has been a mystery that has foxed me for a while but I hope someone can help me solve. Thanks for reading Steve Edited December 19, 2010 by steve19620
ljh
Hello Steve, I think there must have been a mistake made with the compiling of the statistics, Cliff certainly rode in both the fixtures you mention, one of which I also competed in ( at Barrow) and can't recall, nor having seen anywhere, that he finished third in any race. By the way, he was pretty good on the speedway machine he rode, and in fact he was one of the very few who started in an official race as partner with his son Ian in I believe heat 13 at Barrow. Rod Haynes. Thanks Rod for the info. So it appears that a completed programme (not using the heat results from the Speedway Star) from the Ellesmere Port fixture will provide the answer. Surely someone must have this programme ! Incidentally Rod your book is a fascinating read. Steve
