Sgp Draws - Will They Or Won't They?

I saw mention last year that the SGP were strongly considering doing each GP draw a week in advance of the meeting rather than the previous afternoon of the actual race day. Does anyone know if this is going to be the case?

 

It would save an awful lot of filling in of programmes etc. I've never been able to get to a GP yet and, until they mentioned it themselves last year, i hadn't thought on that the way the system is now unless programmes are printed locally late on Friday you have to fill in the whole rider and heat grids!!!! Is that indeed the case with the majority of GP's. The actual line-up is known well in advance so it would make more sense to do the draw a little more ahead of the meeting.

Of course, you could always print half a dozen copies of the completed race card the morning of the GP and then make some new friends by distributing copies to those sitting around you.

But you're right, it is a pain having to write all the names in and there doesn't seem to be any benefit to doing the draw so close to the actual event.

Oooops! i think that is what was actually suggested. I just couldn't remember at the time of posting what they had said they were considering exactly. I'm pretty sure now it was to do the draw at the previous GP.

 

It would be great for me to as i wouldn't have to make sure i'm at home on Friday afternoons to do the GP race card i make available.

My understanding is that this is likely to happen. Its as much of a pain for the officials as it is for anybody else remember.

They should put the riders ranked 1-4 in heat 20 5-8 heat 19 and then so on. so in the 2nd GP the final from the 1st Grand prix will be heat 20.

i think when it was under the one off final there was a similar system. im sure mauger used to come in a certain place in the qualifiers to guarantee a good race number in the final

They use to always do the draw about 1-2 weeks before the GP then some riders started getting suspicious so it was done at practise in front of the riders.

 

You don't have to fill in 20 heats of names, its only the 16 names you have to write in the programme grid similar to what they put in the speedway star, and they provide a seperate sheet in the programme with the riding order.

They could film it (stream it even) and put it on the internet as they do now. Ideally, with the stunning start line girls in attendance

 

Thanks for the programme info, but i'd still prefer not to have to do that much writing, especially, if it should be in the open with pouring rain lol.

Surely they could provide the names as stickers.So once you know the riding order you just have to stick the names in the right place and the programme looks pukha?Can't be a hard task in this day and age.Ok,some after a few pints might have a problem sticking the names in in an orderly fashion.But then they will have trouble wrtiting them in legibly as well
