bluejam
As Victor Meldrew would say "I don`t believe it " The GP was to be followed by Torun v Leszno. At least i haven`t bought the flights yet so can come back on the Sunday-lets hope they decide to hold the matches on Sunday evening. Well, myself,Paulco,Spin King and Jnr have got flights and were going to the same meeting as yourself on the Sunday! There'll be 4 very p****d off fans if the Polish Speedway authorities pull the plug on that weekend!!I had to put with this last April(my 1st time in Poland too)when all fixtures were cancelled due to the sad events with the President!! Mateusz
As a Rangers fan , not getting to a Polish League match on the Sunday because of the bloody pope wont please me one little bit As a Polish Catholic, I would like to say that... I will be equally p!ssed off as you guys if I don't have my league match on Sunday, May 1st! I really hope this is just rumours and they won't postpone anything. I bet most Polish Catholic speedway fans would pick a speedway match over watching on telly some stuff from Vatican, after all If they set all start times at 5 pm there should be no problem at all. Mama
I think the key problem is TV! They'll put all their stuff for JPII Beatification ceremonies in various places ... so Extraleague matches will be rather postponed ... I hope the 1st and 2nd league matches will be held at normal dates

WembleyLion
With regard to the meeting yesterday and the discussions about the 1 May fixtures am I right in understanding it will be left to the clubs themselves as to whether they run that day? Google translator was not entirely clear! Edited February 2, 2011 by WembleyLion
Mama
There is no decision for now ... But if so, all matches will be postponed ... or no ...
Paulco
There is no decision for now ... But if so, all matches will be postponed ... or no ... I hope common sense prevails and there is some speedway held on the Sunday . There will be a few flying into Poland for the weekend , and with absolutely no interest in religious matters , it would be a bummer to be left kicking our heels on the Sunday afternoon . I know the beer's cheap , but i'd rather have some speedway to watch .
spin king
Are the any regions of Poland that do not have a Catholic tradition, any clubs that might possibly still race. Or is the strong Catholic following in Poland.
Mateusz
Are the any regions of Poland that do not have a Catholic tradition, any clubs that might possibly still race. Or is the strong Catholic following in Poland. It's more or less the same in the whole country. But, as Mama says, if it's just up to TVP (Polish public tv) and all their stuff being sent to Vatican, there's a hope matches of Division 1 & 2 will go - TVP don't cover them. Mama
The staff will not be sent to Vatican (just few reporters and maybe cameras) - but there will be lot of ceremonies all over Poland

Thanks Mateusz, not really bothered what division, just very keen to see some Polish League speedway, and that is what I had been looking forward to rather than the GP. Thanks for that R & R and it's nice to note that it's not just British Speedway that can suffer from inertia.

Dexter
As per Sportowe Fakty - Head Commission of Speedway in Poland has just postponed all 1-st league and 2-nd league meetings from 1-st May. The round will be run on the 23-rd June. Extraleague has not been postponed yet but after that it is now almost certain to happen. WembleyLion
Big opportunities missed here to catch many travelling fans (if not on 1 May) on the Friday night before. Also seems that the Torun GP might be much the same. As Paulco says - so disappointing!
spin king
Disappointing is not the word, me Bluejam, Paulco and Spin Junior were going to a league on the 1st, after the Grand Prix. For me the league was going to be the highlight of the trip the one thing that I was looking forward to more than anything else. But looks like I will miss out and no way can I afford to make another trip this season, so it looks like I will have to waited for 2012, and at least I still have the consolation that we atill have the Grand Prix to look forward to. Had a perfect weekend with the GP in Leszno on Saturday and Gniezno v Bydgoszcz on Sunday planned (both events round Poznań)
