The coach of Zielona Gora and Poland Marek Cieślak has added his voice to the controversy surrounding mandatory starts for juniors in the Ekstraliga. Whereas in previous seasons the No 7 (No 15) had only one mandatory heat (Ht 1) against five for the No 6 (No 14), now the six heats are split between the two, meaning one rider races in Ht 1 and is then inactive until Ht 7. This is being blamed for the failure of juniors such as Patryk Dudek to make an impact and Cieślak has spoken out:

http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsportowefakty%2Bzuzel%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1G1TSEA_ENUK335%26prmd%3Divns&rurl=translate.google.co.uk&sl=pl&u=http://www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2011/04/22/marek-cieslak-o-startach-juniorow-nowy-regulamin-bije-w-najl/&usg=ALkJrhiJPsWJsJT2XEajC2cxk0XNoZYodA

Of course, there are others who feel that riders such as Maciej Janowski should be elevated into the "senior" positions even though they are junior riders and consider that the Polish system, while helping riders at the "junior" stage of their career has a negative impact once they pass the age of twenty-one. It is the case that while Poland has been dominant when it comes to juniors in recent times, very few have made an impact once they become seniors.

The on-going situation with regard to Jesper B Monberg and Rybnik (he says he's owed money, they say he hasn't met the obligations of the contract and is not due monies, or at least I think that is the situation) seems to have evolved to include Daniel Nermark. Nermark has been cited as an example of a riding being left waiting for monies by Polish clubs, but not so, according to the rider himself, who has been moved to issue a statement:

http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&sl=pl&u=http://www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2011/04/27/oswiadczenie-daniela-nermarka/&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsportowefakty%2Bzuzel%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1G1TSEA_ENUK335%26prmd%3Divns&rurl=translate.google.co.uk&usg=ALkJrhi-352G_JwQjIfYjjZQkivP372D7w

So, Nermark, at least, is being paid.

Never a dull moment in Zielona Gora as Falubaz chieftain and total funhog Robert Dowhan continues to play the "blame game" with the local authorities over the stadium's new grandstand.

Regular readers may recall that during Falubaz's first home meeting of the season, the virginal stand felt the earth move as the Falubaz faithful danced the Labado. Investigations revealed that the stand might not have been constructed to withstand the rigours of a Labado workout, so it was suggested that a ban be placed on the dance. Now, given that Falubaz fans have the self-control of Jose Mourinho's tongue, that idea was dropped and the whole stand was closed for last weekend's fixture against Czestochowa.

Then, to add insult to Falubaz's injury, the local authority started to make the club sweat over permits to hold a "mass event" at the stadium. In the end, the mayor Janusz Kubicki granted the permit, but only for the Czestochowa meeting, meaning the club will have to sweat it out over the forthcoming fixture against Unia Leszno.

Meanwhile, no one seems to know what's going to happen with the new stand and with elections coming up, Falubaz is a political hot potato in Zielona Gora:

Once again, Tribune K is in the news as the mayor of Zielona Gora speaks, promising compensation to Falubaz over losses caused by the closure of the stand and seeking co-operation from the club and it's funhog president in seeking redress from the stand's designers and constructors Alstal:

The city authorities in Torun are looking for a title sponsor of the new, much-admired, stadium:

http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&sl=pl&u=http://www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2011/05/09/motoarena-na-sprzedaz/&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsportowefakty%2Bzuzel%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1G1TSEA_ENUK335%26prmd%3Divns&rurl=translate.google.co.uk&usg=ALkJrhjld7cHsR_pnuuVWIdVLlLP-Dckvg

Currently, the stadium, like Unibax Torun's previous home, is named for Marion Rose. Rose is one of the great figures in Polish speedway and arguably the finest rider to come from Torun. He died tragically following an on-track crash during a meeting in Rzeszow in 1970. Around 60,000 people lined the streets of Torun for his funeral. Knowing how sentimental the Poles can be, I imagine any move to change the name will not be popular.

In other Torun news, it seems the PC brigade are after the club for discrimination:

The on-going situation with the new stand in Zielona Gora continues, with Falubaz president suggesting a change of hosts for the next round of Ekstraliga meetings, so that Falubaz would visit Leszno rather than the other way round. However, Leszno appear to have rebuffed this suggestion, so Falubaz have petitioned the Ekstraliga authorities for a postponement of the fixture until some time in June. A decision is expected either later today or tomorrow:

http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsportowefakty%2Bzuzel%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1G1TSEA_ENUK335%26prmd%3Divns&rurl=translate.google.co.uk&sl=pl&u=http://www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2011/05/11/stelmet-falubaz-chce-zmienic-termin-meczu-z-unia-leszno/&usg=ALkJrhgNYgfoRaPRmAhK9MmJRziH8hsgwA

I guess if the authorities turn down the request, the fixture will be staged without spectators in the new stand. I can't see Falubaz stomaching a walkover, which would be the likely alternative.

Meanwhile, the eagle-eyed among you will have noticed a delay in the running of Ht 15 during the big derby meeting between Gorzow and Falubaz at the weekend. This was caused by the flares lit among the visiting supporters. Plod is now after the culprits, while the Ekstraliga authorities are also involved and punishments could be handed down to both clubs:

http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsportowefakty%2Bzuzel%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1G1TSEA_ENUK335%26prmd%3Divns&rurl=translate.google.co.uk&sl=pl&u=http://www.sportowefakty.pl/zuzel/2011/05/11/osoby-ktore-odpalily-race-w-derbach-ziemi-lubuskiej-beda-sci/&usg=ALkJrhgyv2b8C_WyZSDc-nU3pBshctJo2g

Closing the Falubaz stadium for one meeting would appear to be a solution to the first point raised in this thread.

By the way, everyone invited to attend an experiment in Zielona Gora this Saturday:

I don't think Gollob ever threatened to quite or even quit speedway. If he did, then it would seem obvious that since he has ridden the new silencer in the GPs and Sweden it's unlikely that he will follow through with the threat.

It seems a reasonable decision for the GKSZ to make, given that the riders have capitulated rather pathetically. Once the ring leaders decided it was more important for them to race in the GPs and earn money in Sweden than fight for what they believed in, what was the point in the GKSZ carrying on their prior policy. That policy was driven by the riders. I don't think the PZM or GKSZ ever had much of an issue with the new silencer.

It remains to be seen what the fans will make of it. Judging from the comments on sportowefakty.pl, not a lot seems to be the answer.
