Humphrey Appleby
BSI have said that "wild cards" will have to be justified. BSI don't pick the wildcards do they? That's for the SGP Commission to decide, which I think only has one BSI representative. I've long thought though, that if a country already has two riders in the SGP, the wildcard should go elsewhere (preferably to the highest placed non-qualifier). If anyone should decide though, it should be the local organisers who are the ones who have to make the GPs pay. Trees
it should be the local organisers who are the ones who have to make the GPs pay. The local organisers take the gate monies and money from food outlets, anything else?
SteveEvans
I would prefer no wild cards at all and 16 riders in the series. In Formula One there are many GP's where there is no home country driver and the series doesn't suffer. But if riders are missing through injury makes sense to have a home based rider in as replacements will most likely never contend for the championship unless there is a season long injury at the start of season. spook
tbh I don't really 'get' the point of the thread.... is this some old fashioned square blocking to try to make the latest (or old) agenda work? (which amazingly also seems to be anti brit ) For some time now the point of the meeting wildcard has been to make sure that there is local talent on display to increase the bums on seats...... would I prefer to see world/international class talent instead? yes of course but I certainly understand why the 16th rider has sometimes been a Carpanese........ has the economy improved in a way that we have all missed?..... or has it been a badly conceived policy in the first place? so yes the likes of Tai, Scott, Ed and Floppy have not pulled up trees as wildcards but is anyone seriously saying that after conceding their own longstanding unspoken rule of two brits in the top 15 that IMG are going to sanction Cardiff only having one Brit?! It doesnt matter how much someone loves Darcy Ward, dislikes Brits, is in search of the best 16 in the world... or indeed what their agenda is full stop... quite frankly it isnt going to happen....... give British Speedway 5 more years of decline with no one capable of mixing it on the night and it could become an option I'm not sure what this thread has used as reference in the first place (something in the SS?) and as a result if it has been used out of context or not but I would suggest that it is more about the likes of Italian promoters and Carpanese who was so far off the pace that it makes it difficult to argue that he could possibly put bums on seats for next season....... do we really think that IMG will be a turkey voting for christmas and putting their own promoted events at risk as well? In an ideal world 16 riders of my choosing would do battle for the world championship in a format of my choosing ....... but it just isnt going to happen and speedway like all other sports is not immune to decisions made from commercial and corporate perspectives

Red Panda
The point I am making is what is "merit" surely if a Brittish rider is doing well in there league and has a good finish in there national championship then that is "merit". Exactly..............if you go to a Swedish GP you expect to see a Swedish Wild Card rider therefore it should be the same in Britain................who ever is National Champion of the country hosting wins (unless its Bomber then it becomes second place) should be given the chance to race in the GP................and anyway am I the only one who thinks there are too many Poles in the series already............ Silver Bee
The Poles (Kolodziej excluded) all qualified by right for the GP 2010. Kolodziej, I believe, was second in both Swedish and Polish league averages. I don't know who, except Emil, and when you exclude nationality, is more deserving of a wildcard than him. I meant as a wild card at an individual GP not in their own country................I am not saying they did not qualify as of right but it does seem they are taking over.............we need more and better Brits to give us a chance of winning something in the future................... Dexter
A Brit should definitely get a chance in Cardiff GP. My first pick is Woffinden even though he performed so poorly in 2010. After all, he is still a young bloke who had a really tough time (father's death). I am sure it will be a chance for him to see if he has put himself together yet and for BSI - to see if he is ready to be back to GP. On the other hand, a young Aussie could be considered for this event. Darcy Ward or Troy Batchelor maybe?
