King's Lynn 2011

Hard, the other point is what damage could that year in the Elite do to Buster's long term business ? After Waggy;s last year in charge at Saddlebow, the Club was at an all time low. It took Buster a lot of time and hard work to build the business and the fan base back up. I am not so sure it would be as easy a 2nd time around.

Agreed

Thats not really here Im coming from. If there is a big carrot being dangled under the nose of Buster, as the BSPA are desperate for that one extra Club, will that Carrot still be on offer If P'Boro and Coventry toe the line and come back into the fold ?

I understand what you mean. The EL is eager to increase its numbers beyond 9 (as I reckon Cov and Pet will still be there next year) and if promises have been made to KL I can't see that that would change. I'm pretty sure that if KL have shown the guts to move up they'll get the support needed. This hasn't always happened in the past and I'm sure the EL promoters have learned their lesson.

Just seems strange that the BSPA have suddenly raised this issue since they have been left with only 7 declared teams for next season. If has rumoured the Sky deal goes down the tube if there are not at least 8 clubs running. I just feel if Coventry and P'Boro come back then the need for Kings Lynn is somewhat less.

If Kings Lynn do join are they going to be left with riders that are surplus to everyone else's requirements, and maybe a Promoter who is sent in to do a holding job. Hardly a recipe for success.

I'd love to have King's Lynn back in the EL. But I don't think having some tracks bankrolled by others is any sort of solution. We're losing money hand over fist as it is - where will all this extra cash come from?

Maybe one person will part with some of his hard earned Sky deal money. After all 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing.

Uncle Bob has had 20 years of opportunities to drop down to the PL but insists it's only EL therefore I can only assume that he's prepared to bankroll the club. And for that we should all be grateful.

I really don't think clubs should be bankrolled by the BSPA but this year we're in exceptional circumstances. If we can get KL in the Elite and hopefully it's a success then it'll be a major benefit to the EL for the future.

I've got a question for an Ipswich fan:

This switch to the Premier League - do you feel like Bugs Bunny, stepping off a plummetting aeroplane to safety, just before it crashes into the ground?

In a word - yes!!

I'd like to thank Tony Mole for taking Brum up and allowing us to swap, I do feel sorry for Brum fans though

The question has to be, if the money on the table to take Birmingham & supposedly King's Lynn into the EL is so good, why wasn't it offered to Ipswich????

And if it was and they've still come down, to me that says a lot that the BSPA are trying to pull the wool over the PL promoters.

Peterborough, Coventry, Poole & Wolverhampton will always be the top dogs in the EL & all they'll be doing is making sure it stays that way.

Those 4 teams don't give a monkeys about any other club in that league and they just constantly try to point score over each other.

This is something I've brought up in a couple of the threads about the EL debacle over the past few days, and it's a subject that has quite frankly pee'd me off - it was only a couple of weeks ago that Ipswich's choices seemed to be: Run in the Elite league and lose more money that we don't have (in other words not an option) or close the gates for at least a season - the cash carrot wasn't being dangled to us to provide the numbers of teams in the EL, why? Well the BSPA knew that if we closed the doors there would still be 8 teams in the EL and the Sky deal would be safe, but now Coventry and P'boro are threatening to pull the plug that Sky contract is in real danger and it's the lifeblood of the EL, they NEED KL (or any other team) to guarentee a minimum of 8 EL teams regardless of what Cov & P'boro decide to do and the only way they would get anybody interested in joining the EL is with a dirty great pile of money which they now seem to of found - I honestly cannot believe that after a decade or so of success in the PL and multiple refusals of joining the EL that the Chapmans would seriously consider the BSPA's cash carrot that is being dangled? It's so short sighted it's almost insulting!

If the question was posed to the Chapmans: "Would you accept this pile of cash to join our league knowing that it could set your club back 15 years or so?" and the Chapmans didn't laugh it off I'd be amazed, I genuinely would.

Just a thought

Could it be possible that EL speedway WILL be at King's Lynn but under Peterborough's name???????????

The reason I say this is that, if the Peterborough promotion do pull out and it get all legal the BSPA may run the club but the landlords at the Showground rental costs could be out of their reach and Buster has offer a helping hand.

Thought's?????

The Chapmans are in a position where they can take a punt at EL given a load of dosh because if next year they decide that they don't want to risk it they just forget speedway, the stadium can run on stock cars alone, no probs!

I thought Buster Chapman said that at the time of taking Lynn into the Premier League in 2003 that NEVER again whilst he owned Kings Lynn Speedway would the Stars race in the Elite League? Personally, I think the Stars are a force in the Premier League and shouldn't now risk ruining the steady ship they've got going at the Norfolk Arena by plunging deep into the mire of a league which clearly has no direction and doesn't know what it is doing.

The more I have thought about it, the more silly it seems. Why would they want to move up? What is there in the EL that could be 'that' exciting? Why would they have already signed riders for 2011? Why would we be named in a cup match on the BSPA website in the PL?

But that radio interview had my mind whizzing last night, where did they get that information from that KL would be going EL no matter what (basically).

In all likelihood - from here!

The trouble with the forums is that people are by and large anonymous yet some really do sound as if they are "in the know" where in reality they know as many facts as the next man!

What's silly about moving up if it's a financially attractive option for the club

I'd have much more enthusiasm for the season if we do go up. Lots of new riders I've never seen before and teams to renew rivalries with. If we could also attract a few old boys back like Watt, Batchelor, McGowan and maybe keep Allen, Doolan and Topinka. Add in a top line heatleader and that's a team I'd love to see. 6 Lynn or ex Lynn riders.

Look at Rye's team declared. Out of that team, Tyson Nelson is the only rider I've never seen before. Plus Rye has never been a real "local" derby anyway. That's Ipswich and Peterborough. It's a shame Ipswich have moved down but hopefully Peterborough will still be in the league. If they are, those crowds will blow any PL crowd out of the water.

As for seeing teams twice at home, we'll we've had plenty of that in the PL before with PT, KO Cup and PL matches. Every team in our PL group last season plus Edinburgh and Newcastle off the top of my head were there twice.

The only way we'd see them more than twice was if we were successful i.e. KO Cup run and Playoffs. I'd be quite happy to see say Swindon 3 times a season, especially if the last meeting was a Cup Final :D

Who knows what will happen but going EL isn't all doom and gloom as some are making out.

It just isn't for me i'm afraid, and I am sure I am not alone.

Not all of us are against it.....as long as we are competitive I'm open to the idea.

And that is the very reason why there will be a low points limit, high PL conversion rate and one 8 rider per team rule, to give a PL team the means to compete, not just to be making the numbers up. However, Cov and Pboro are refusing to play ball with these changes.

Let me get one thing straight here. I'd love EL speedway back at Lynn & if we are I'll be there week in week out but many others won't. We get told time & time again that EL speedway isn't viable for King's Lynn and over the last year only Poole has made any money in the EL.

Why now all of a sudden is it right for us to be in the EL when we've been approved for PL & drawn Somerset in the cup.

What I think is the BSPA NEED 8 clubs to secure their Sky money so they've cook up a super strong Kipper so King's Lynn can get done up like one
