stressed
WILDCATS PAST AND PRESENT BATTLE IT OUT IN FINAL FIXTURE By Weymouth Speedway ~ Wednesday 20th October 2010 Weymouth Weyline Wildcats past and present battle it out in the ‘Farewell Individual’ meeting taking place at the Wessex Stadium on Friday night in what could be the final meeting to be held at the South Coast venue if no buyer comes forward. The meeting is being run over 12 scoring heats with the top eight scorers going into two semi-finals with the top two from each moving into the final. Wildcats skipper Tom Brown makes his final Wessex Stadium appearance Friday evening before making his final club appearance prior to retiring from the sport on Sunday afternoon [24th] 2.30pm at Newport in Wildcats final Trophy meeting. After recent interest in taking the club over it has become quiet on this front which is worrying for South Coast speedway supporters who were left without a club from 1985 when the then promotion moved lock stock and barrel to Poole until the sport was revived at its present location in the summer of 2003. Wildcats chairman Phil Bartlett said “I’ve had my time involved with Weymouth Speedway over the past few years and it’s now time for someone else to be involved and for me to move on and do something else. I’ve spent a huge amount of my life on the phone this year due to rider injuries trying to find replacements. Comments from certain so called fans haven’t been pleasant, it’s time for me to walk away from the club after Friday’s meeting with someone else coming in with their own ideas.” Bartlett has decided to let the club go for £1 for any prospective purchases taking on the club liabilities, he continued; “I invite anyone to take over the club at a price of £1! Anyone wanting to take over the club from me within 24 hours can do so by contacting me on my mobile or by email. Also by signing a confidentiality agreement a prospective purchaser will then be able to have access to all the accounting procedures that are in place.” Tickets for the Wildcats End of Season Bash and presentations are on sale from the club, the event takes place on Saturday 6th November in the Wessex Stadium lounge Bar. Single tickets are priced at £7.50 with a couple’s joint ticket at £10.00. All the Wildcats have been invited and there is now a Training Session from midday until 4.00pm the same day for those wanting to make a complete day out. MEETING DETAILS: LINE UP 1. Wessex Wanderer
Could someone please tell us how what was said, good crowd, atmosphere and hopes for the future? Very much a low key affair. Nothing new said. Crowd maybe reached 200. Atmosphere pretty much zero. Mostly people seemed almost relieved the season was over and in a "lets wait and see now" mood. James Cockle was best rider on view and very unlucky. A pity that Tom Brown did not make the Final but even so he seemed to echo the mood of the meeting which was a pity but he will far more likely to be remembered by the Weymouth fans for the numerous times he has been was Mr Entertainment in the past. All the best for the future Tom. Bit of a shame that the general atmosphere (or more acurately the complete lack of it) overshadowed a competent display by Gary Cottham to win the meeting. Well done Gary. Also well done to Richard Andrews on his runners up spot. Not bad going for one who is more or less a first year rider. BobC hits the nail on the head when he says the meeting sent the season out more with a whimper than a bang. All in all the meeting (and the season come to that) gets a rating from me of
Storming Norman
Thanks WW. Disappointing but hopefully passion for the Club will still emerge.
