Steve Shovlar
Don't forget we also stole Jordan Frampton last season Yep. And left him high and dry on an average he was never going to live up to. Wrecked his career for a while.
fullbore
I would love to see a meeting between the two same teams on a Netural well prepared track, then lets see what the result would be!!! Well given that Poole lost by 10 points on their home track... Niamh
Robbobee
Wrecked Jordan Frampton's career ? What about 'King Artur' ? Anybody going to touch him on his finishing average this year ? Perhaps Pirates will keep him in their tam for next season ? Don't think so .... one season wonder who is now high and dry .... Cheers
castrolargh
An interesting column from Matt Ford in last nights Poole program. "Finally, and most importantly, the last thing I want to do is rain on Coventrys celebration parade in 48 hours time at Brandon, but I would like to draw attention to the following important fact. On September 13th, their key reserve Pawlicki was in fine fettle scoring 7 points in Bees semi-final first leg against Peterborough. A week latter he was in the Bees side bagging another 5 rides at Peterborough in the playoff semi-final second leg. However, in between these meetings, Coventry had a league meeting at Swindon on September 16th, a match that would have seen Pawlicki reach 12 meetings for an official average running after 11 meetings at 6.18. This would have seen Pawlicki promoted into the Bees top five for both legs of the Playoff final and also providing his actual average for next year. But here's the thing. Pawlicki suffed an injury preventing him from riding at Swindon. it ruled him unfit to ride at Swindon, but fit enough for the playoff meetings. So he remained on an assessed 4 point average - and was avalable to drip feed the Coventry management to use at reserve for both legs of the final. Pawlicki scored 26 points compared to Sweetmans 6 over 30 heats. Would it have been different had Pawlicki been inthe team with Sweetman at reerve? We will never know. But it would have been nice to have had the oportunity to face Bees in the right riing order. All I know is I have had 5 fellow Elite Legue promoters contact me voicing their concerns over his inclusion at reserve. I'll leave you all to form your own opinions about how we feel over the whole matter." END. The fact that Pawlicki rode in POland (and won the meeting) but was too injured to ride for Coventry at Swindon looks like it's going to come back and bite him and Coventry on the bum. With 6 EL promoters far from happy with the manipulation that has taken place, and the fact that every rider has to have his average for 2011 rattified at the bSPA conference, it's not looking good for Pawlicki and Coventry teams building plans in 2011. Parhaps Rosco made a mistake in saying that Pawlicki ws "injured and not fit to ride at Swindon". He was certainly fit enough to win an individual in Poland. Quite unbelievable article to put in your own programme. How do you like your grapes mr ford? Sour by any chance?Have a bit of dignity and take a leaf from your captains book, be gracious in defeat for once.Yes, you probably had the strongest team all season(apart from the play off final!), but one that was assembled using the farcical rules on averages, and hey, guess what , so did coventry,BUT THEY BEAT YOUR TEAM HOME AND AWAY, GET OVER IT. T.N.T.
You told both of us we were wrong about double uppers getting averages last winter and were wrong yourself. Do you really want to go through all that again? Auty will be 3. Haines will be half his PL average because Wolves messed up and didnt give him a 12th meeting. I just can't see what rule you're refering to. However, for the record, he's what I am seeing (bear in mind 2009 becomes 2010, 2008 becomes 2009 etc etc) Nothing at all about the higher of two figures. You argued all last year that double uppers would double up in 2010 on their 2009 PL average converted, I told you that you were wrong. I'm now telling you that you're wrong on this one. Got Laurel & Hardy on this one now then Ok Boys .... You are saying that next season Josh Auty can double up on a 3.00 average ! Can a rider double up then even if they average 8+ in the PL as long as they have a EL average ? Lets say for example, Josh Auty actually averaged 9.70 for Sheffield, then he could double up still as he has a 3.00 EL average, despite the fact he has a PL average over 8 points a match !! On the other side, what if a riders has an EL average of 5.15 but only a PL average of 7.02 .... Can he still double up and on what average would he have in the EL ? (Doubling up or full time) Over to you Boys !

So if Josh was 9.7 for Sheffield he could not double up, regardless of his EL averages. Yet if he was 7.02 PL a nd 5.15 EL he could double up, if an EL team wanted him on 5.15. Richard Sweetman for example is 5.13 EL but 7.68 PL so he can double up next season, if a team in the EL wats to take him on 5.13 and risk having a weaker rider when he's not around. javw
Interesting point for Starman 2006. On 28th September you stated the track had been watered. When asked how you knew this you replied at the time "Intuition its the only way that track would have been in that state. You can defend all you like Beeone but that track was very poor for both sides and a very poor advert for a final. But things will be different monday, including the result. " However now you have decided to tell us that a couple of anonymous Wolves supporters told you. despite the fact that the gates were not open at that time. Curious ! PS: It got in that state because it rained! .

In the final Middlo had a dig at Barker for not clearing the track (rightly so) but failed to mention Ward doing the same. Perhaps the programme notes could be typed after every meeting for us all to have a good laugh at!
SCB
Frankly, I don't care what they did to the track. It was the same for both teams. We proved at Poole beyond any doubt we were the better team. The track was there to be ridden/raced and Coventry did that much better than Poole did. TrueBee
We hadn't dropped a point at home since 28th June (this includes beating Poole) so why would they want to change the track to beat Poole when the riders were used to it?
noggin
Been out for a few hours and this load of boring rubbish is still going on, Poole were beaten fair and square and they don't like it, move on or is this the state of threads between now and next bloody march. no wonder this forum is going to the dogs. Brummie Kev
It amazes me that some people are just so bitter. The collum from Matt Ford was totally uncalled for and downright offensive in my opinion as theres no proof. Before this I actually liked Matt Ford, earlier in the season he wrote an Collum in the Dudley Heathens programme ( at his own request) in which he praised the Heathens for their support at a Bournemouth meeting. It was a lovely touch I thought so Im somewhat disapointed with his ungracious and unsporting conduct over this. CMV06
Matt Ford has shown himself up to be nothing more than a spoilt child who, when things don't go his way, spits out the dummy and takes his ball home. The lack of fireworks and champagne at the end of the meeting along with 'We are the champions' being played at a level that only dogs could hear (sorry Gemini) showed a real lack of class on his part. He has dragged down to the gutter all of the good 'PR' work that Middlo and Watt had engineered in their totally sportsmanlike way that they handled defeat, not to mention the Poole fans who, in the majority, have shown real humility over the last couple of weeks. I tell you if this was one of the mainstream sports then Ford would be charged with bringing the sport into disrepute by the authorities. Silly little man. P.S People wonder why Darcy Ward acts like a petulant child, they only have to look at the example being set by Ford to see why.
Halifaxtiger
While he may have a point regarding Pawlicki's starting average for next year, I think that making a fuss and implying that it had a bearing on the play off final does smack of sour grapes to me a bit I'm afraid. Coventry came to Poole having ridden it only a couple of times during the season and gave us a proper thrashing. The Poole riders have ridden the Poole track week in and week out all year, and in some cases for several years. My point is this, regardless of where Pawlicki road in the Coventry team, Poole should have been able to contain him. We didn't, We bottled it, Coventry were the better team by a country mile. I have great respect for Matt Ford, what he's done at Poole over the last however many years is great, but whinging about other teams making use of the very rules he has made ample use of in the past just seems churlish to me. Congratulate Coventry and move on. I am not the first one to say that this is a superb post and sums up precisely how those who can look at this subject objectively feel. Well said indeed It's not win at all costs. It's being a good manager. The fact your manager says he'd never do it proves he's lacking something when it comes to being a team manager. I was about to say that leaving a rider out to gain an advantage in a big meeting might easily be regarded as an act of managerial genius but you have said it for me. Frankly, I don't care what they did to the track. It was the same for both teams. We proved at Poole beyond any doubt we were the better team. The track was there to be ridden/raced and Coventry did that much better than Poole did. Again, you're dead right. Coventry's performance at Poole was superb and it was inspired by their captain who gave one of the bravest and most influential displays I have ever seen on a speedway track. Quite simply, they deserved it. Matt Ford's comments come across as those of a bad loser who knew for certain that his powerhouse side were going to sweep everything before it,can't come to terms with the fact that they didn't and is looking for excuses why that was the case other than on his own doorstep. As many others have said, get over it. Alun Rossiter's, on the other hand, seem to be restrained and fair.
DarrenCook
Look after Davey for us next year if he ends up at Blunsdon. Don't want his average to get to high so he can return to us in 2012 on a 5. something. Take care, Steve, one more year of Poole humiliation & you'll be a broken man...........or glory hunting at Blunsdon or Brandon!
Fourentee
Stop me if I'm going awry here, but do 15 pages of comment boil down to the following: Team has rider, team rests rider for less important matches, team uses rider for vital ones, no rules are broken? Pirate Nick
As a Poole fan I am annoyed that Pawlicki was kept out of his 12th match to stay at reserve (especially as he could turn up as a guest for the Budgies in the Cup final) and yes it average manipulation of a sort. As a speedway fan I feel Rosco is to be applauded for his use and knowledge of the rules in the re building and maintenance of his team this year. If Middlo had the same option with a high scoring reserve and didn't do what Rosco did the same fans on here who are crying its not fair would be calling for his head! The question is will it be allowed next year? I think the BSPA conference will take steps to ensure it doesn't. However with a sport governed by averages there will always be an angle so to speak. IMO speedway fans will have to accept that from time to time a gem will be unearthed and just pray its your team that finds him and that your manager is clever enough to use the rules to his advantage. As for the sour grapes, I am still reeling in disbelief from the final and our performance (losing at home to effectively a 3 man team). The fact is though we lost so stop whinging and get on with winning the KO Cup (hopefully). Once again well done Coventry and their astute management, thanks to the Bees in the bar at the 1st leg for making what was looking to be a depressing night enjoyable and we'll be looking to take that trophy back next year:
gary moore
Gullible. So we all imagined Pawlicki riding and winning in Poland then.
