Bryn
Noon Weather check: Been dry but cloudy all morning here in Erith (just across the Thames from the circuit) and no hint of rain or forecast of same. Can't comment on temperature as haven't been brave enough to point my hooter outside the front door yet!

Paul
cloudy and cold here in sarf london. wrap up well all you brave souls going tonight it's gonna be a long evening! It’s going to be a cold one alright. Here in West Thurrock about a mile from the track it’s freeeeeezing already. Have myself all prepared though. I have dug my thick Hackney jumper out [thanks mum for knitting it from the paten I think the St John’s at Hackney did 30 years ago lol] to go with my long johns! Have to say with my annorack on as well I should be sweating buckets! Oh, by the way, I we be supporting the Romford and Hackney riders, what happy days and memories those two tracks have given me at Brookland’s Road and Waterden Road Actually not sure I want to laugh coz both Hackney and Romford are no more
Shadders
The M25 is currently closed clockwise between junction 29 & 30 due to a major pile up ... Not sure if it will be cleared by the time most of the riders/spectators journey down, so best check the traffic reports. We're leaving North London now and travelling via A406 North Circular Road and A13 for a little shopping trip to the shopping centre pre meeting. Anyway tis dry although a tad nippy round the ears (and other extremities!)so wrap up warm and see you later! NB - we have been informed that M25 is now OPEN following accident this morning. Finally anyone requiring a 2011 season ticket application form tonight should pop into the speedway office by 6.15pm. And there's a nod to the great White City in your BSF moniker too, methinx!! For me being ever adaptable, I'm 'supporting' the Crayford, Wimbledon and White City 'representatives' tonite!! Bryn
FINAL WEATHER CHECK: 5.30pm - no sign of rain and/or snow but woolly undercrackers well recommended.
Parsloes 1928 nearly
Hmm, Bryn's study of the sky didn't prove any better than the Met Office's expensive equipment...: it did rain... Mind you at the point (after heat six of the underwhelming LRC) it was called off, it was barely drizzling and the track was a long way off "waterlogged". A case not so much of an R/O as - as my kids would put it - a CBA!!!
Storming Norman
It is a case, Derek. I went along as I wanted to see the USA boys and safe in the knowledge there was no hint of rain! I expect Bryn will post on here later Michael Fish like! C'mon Derek, the London Riders might not have been red hot, but surely you enjoyed the USA and will be posting your appreciation to those guys who travelled so far to entertain you? Shadders
Enjoyed the USA match, but the LRC was awful while it lasted .... My first visit to Arena since 2003 and I have to report it's still a dump ... Too far away from the track to feel really involved and the sheer size of the place means it lacks atmosphere ... Pretty decent chips and curry sauce though, which just about saved the day ... If Lakeside was the only track I could get to I'd be looking for something else to do between March and October. BobC
Enjoyable meeting in the wet and cold, well 1st half anyway. The USA team were again excellent value.Burmeister and Starks the obvious talents for the future.Castro reeled in an immaculate 4 ride maximum.Showed all his skill and experience. The Yanks have been excellent value in the 3 meetings I have watched them.Slow to start at Plymouth, very impressive at Weymouth and again tonight. For the Lions,it was a largely lethargic performance.Morris superb effort, always in the thick of it.Hazelden was nuisance to the visitors.Newman could have had at least 4 more points, but was knocked off in Ht1,(not intentionally) as Burmeister touched his leg and front wheel, then fell while challenging for 2nd place in another. The rest were well below their normal levels. As for the LRC,what a horrible way to end the season.Lack lustre field, lack lustre racing. The only good thing from it was seeing all those 'old' race jackets again. Peterborough had better be better tonight! Edited October 16, 2010 by BobC

Agree also about LR champioship - track didn't look that bad when they called it off but hey I'm no speedway rider

I can assure you Shane was giving 100% and it meant a lot to be riding with a lions race jacket on as well as his first proper competative meeting on his home track at Lakeside. I can tell you he was far from just going through the motions as you put it.

He was over the moon about being selected and absolutley determioned to make the most of the chance. On the track he rode at the limit of his ability, had a good win and had a couple of determined scraps for some minor placings and finished on 9 points from 4 rides. I don't know what more people expect from a 16 year old.
Parsloes 1928 nearly
Shane was indeed excellent - so great to see him riding so well and so confidentally at this level afer all those early career injury set-backs - well done... Without wishing to sound like a Mod,( ) perhaps though the discussion about the Lions/USA Tourists match (which was cracking entertainment) should be on a different thread, coz this one's entitled the London Riders Championship. And THAT part of the meeting was downright dire - quite posibly the WORST, least-inspired in every way and most utterly pointless Speedway event I've ever hsad the displeasure to endure: albeit in this case thankfully rather briefly... I think we be assured that no further attempt in the future shall be made to stage this. Mind you let's be honest, what attempt was in truth made with this... None of the historical links we were promised, no old riders introduced or seemingly invited as guests, no effort to put together a field with any pretence at all at (1) being top class; or (2) links with the clubs (where possible). For example, to me I'd have tried to have Lewis Bridger representing Wimbledon (where he started out riding in second halves albeit never actually wearing a Dons' race-jacket); Eddie Kennett for Hackney - where his father Dave rode for so many years (or alternatively Ed represnting White City where Dave and Uncle Gordon won the League in '77). I accept beyond this it becomes more tricky but at least try and make links and make it interesting... The meeting was a turn-off from the start and you could sense literally no-one out there was bothered at all... If I didn't know better I'd say it had the feel of a last ever meeting at a venue where all interest had been lost... No reason to suppose that's the case but a damp squib of an end to the season for sure..

And I think you'll find that he was deputising for ... guess who? Yes none other than Eddie Kennett who broke an ankle in a crash at Wolverhampton at the beginning of this month !
