London Riders Championship

Recommended Posts

Been a long time waiting for this return of the LRC but sounds like it'll be worth it!!

So far - according to the Lakeside site - the following riders are 'representing' London (and slightly wider than London...) tracks of old:

Cameron Woodward (White City Rebels)

Peter Ljung (Hackney Hawks)

Stuart Robson (West Ham Hammers)

Joonas Kylmakorpi (Romford Bombers)

Kauko Nieminen (Lakeside)

Linus Sundstrom (Rye House Rockets)

Leigh Lanham (Arena Essex)

Winner or runner-up 'Vultures Race' (New Cross Rangers)

Winner or runner-up 'Vultures Race' (Harringay Racers)

Which, by my reckoning, leaves the Wembley Lions plus the two I'm most interested in, the Wimbledon Dons and the god-like Crayford Kestrels the remaining 'teams' needing riders to wear their colours..

I understand Chris Neath's likely to be one of these riders. Can I put in a 'request' that Chris is selected for Wimbledon as his was IMHO the greatest ever performance in the CL era at Plough Lane: an immaculate maximum for Young GB and the second fastest time of that era. Chris has told me how fondly he remembers that one single appearance in SW17 and I know Dons fans hold the lad in great esteem for his performance and the many kind words he's said since about the club...

For Crayford...? How about Jack Bibby who made his racing comeback at Iwade the other week...!! ;):D

Of the Young Hammers/US match - this is covered on the thread in the NL section but I'm sure my travelling companion davidba will be all excited about seeing the French pairing of Xavier Muratet & David Bellego!! :approve:

Damn right fella, what with Mikey Buman, John Marquez, Robbie Sauer and Bryce Starks in the US team, that makes 6 new riders to be crossed off and added onto other lists for me in one single meeting, and on my doorstep, just gone all the way there and back to Newport on the train to see Davies and Strozyk, next Friday will be a slightly autisitc speedway fans dream!!!

Hmm, plans ain't going all that well then...!!

Strewth Parsnips old fruit, what on earth led you to come to that conclusion all by yourself?

With Rye House obviously not now being able to be represented, I believe they will be replaced by the Rayleigh Rockets.

A reminder that if there are any ex-riders out there who rode for London clubs who are free this coming Friday then give me a ring on 07774 935468. Don't panic though, no one is expecting you to race! :D

Wide definitions of 'London'...! Rayleigh's almost at Southend!!!

What about the Walthamstow Wolves and Lea Bridge/Clapton..?!!

And as you are as ever the font of all knowledge, pray let us know what the latest full line-up is..? For example, who's representing the club you were once PRO for (you know the club that had run from 1928 but closed down with a few weeks of you being its press guru!!)..?!

Glad to see Robbo will be wearing the colours of the greatest speedway club in the history of the world. Kakke gets the second greatest and poor ol' Peter Ljung gets the 'Orrible Acne colours. Must be between Ljung and the two Finns for the "Championship".

Bryn, can't you use your influence to get Norman Hunter down to present the trophy, him being both an ex-genuine (ie West Ham) Hammer and former London riders Champion himself.

Wot about Alan Sage..? He's also an ex-West Ham man , plus a Crayford legend, plus an original Arena Essex Hammer AND I could ask him to come round after the meeting and fix me central heating!!!

Cheers Bryn ... Not been to Lakeside for speedway since they were last in the Premier League ... I promised B4e a trip to the shops before the meeting ... Can't make Newport for the Rockets YS match, so a trip to Lakeside will do nicely. :approve:

LAKESIDE HAMMERS SPEEDWAY

PRESS RELEASE

Tuesday 12th October 2010

LONDON RIDERS COUNTDOWN BEGINS AS YOUNG LIONS JOIN THE ACTION

The preparations for the long awaited return of the London Riders Championship continues with the clock counting down until the event, which takes place at the Arena-Essex Raceway at 8pm this Friday, 15th October.

A change in the opening match of the two meeting event will now see an all star Young Lions team, including the Hammers own Shane Hazelden and managed by former Hammer Phil Morris, take on the USA from 6.30pm.

Meanwhile, the final field for the main event, the London Riders Championship, has faced a few changes due to fixture clashes and it now means a return to action for Hammers fans favourite Henning Bager, who will be travelling over from Denmark to represent the Arena-Essex side with a point to prove in hoping to gain a team place for 2011.

Off track the event will be supported by the Speedway Museum, who will be on hand with a display along with the Backtrack Magazine. In addition to being able to see the old race jackets from the famous old London clubs there will be a special appearance of the original West Ham tractor, which was used to parade the riders on.

The gates at the Raceway will open at 5.30pm with the Young Lions 13 heat match against the American Touring team scheduled to start at 6.30pm.

At 7.50pm the riders for the London Riders Individual Championship will be paraded and that will be followed, at 8pm, with the ‘Vultures’ race, which will be for the top two riders from both sides from the opening match.

The top two in this race will then compete in the main event representing New Cross and Harringay.

The London Riders Individual Championship will consist of 12 qualification heats with the top two scorers going through to the Grand Final. They will be joined by the winner and second placed rider from a ‘Last Chance’ qualifier, which will be contested by the third to sixth placed scorers. The winner of the Championship will be the rider who wins the Grand Final.

Normal Lakeside Hammers admission prices will apply for this extravaganza of Speedway, which will see 28 heats of racing. The prices are: Adults - £16, Senior Citizens, Students and Disabled - £12, Unemployed - £10, Children 6 to 16 - £3 with children under 6 free. A special programme for the event will be available at £2.50.

I know travelling is difficult around the London area but I do highly recommend that you get there for the USA meeting.

Although we have yet to get a win we have had 4 great meetings. And one to watch this tour has been young Bryce Starks - not sure he knows how to slow a bike down!

They are all wonderful Americans and each of them are very charismatic.

Shawn McConnell is a legend and is great to watch

Eddie Castro is simply amazing - I sometime wonder if he is really 51 years old. Go and see him in the pits - he just loves to chat to fans. And whilst your there ask him about the bruise on his arm - poor Eddieicon_cry.gif

Tyson Burmister - is getting better and better. This is his third tour and we are aware of a few promoters keeping an eye on him this tour.

And then there is Robbie Sauer, John Marquez and mike Buman - each rider enjoying their experience and scoring points important to the team.

Please come and support these guys.

Oh and put a few pennies in your pockets -

touring Merchandise for sale -

Mugs £5 (signed by the riders)

Prog Boards £5

Pens £1

stickers 50p

Look for the USA flags - that's where we will be.

Gosh! So Lubos joins that list of legendary Czech Republic Crayford riders...!!!! NOT!!:wink:

I suppose we should be grateful at least that no wag decided to pair up Olly Allen with Wimbledon...!!!!

Thanks
