The Speedway Stig

With all the recent publicity surrounding the identity of the BBC Stigg, it has got me thinking of a new concept / idea to get some extra folks thru the Turnsiles. Its Ambitious !

Move over BBC stig, Go back in your hole Moley... It's time to unleash the Speedway Stigg (Spelt differently for copyright reasons haha)

The Speedway Stigg, Complete Black Leathers (With Stigg Logo) ,Black bike covers, Helmet, boots etc with reflective Goggles. SS is driven into the stadium in race gear and into a cordoned off pit area and hidden behind sponsored pit boards (G.P Style) The pre meeting presentation goes ahead as normal but where is the pre advertised appearence of the Stigg, yes thats him sitting on the centre green in his deck chair reading the Speedway Star !

The event / build up - Stigg is to race against the competing clubs No 1 rides during the meeting interval + 1 invitation.

The Race - Stigg enters the track just before the 2 minutes interval. In the meantime the other riders are preparing at the gate. digging,Practice Starts etc...Not Stigg, he calmly rides onto the track, no practice starts, no digging and waits patiently at the tapes... oh the excitement !

The Race - Stigg leaves his competitors in his dust with a distinctive leg trailing start (Guessed who he is yet ?) he masters and powers his way around the circuit. And why is he so confident ? Yes the stigg is special and as such has special equipment, a highly tuned 600CC motor compliments of Ashley Holloway (Ok a bit far fetched, but the punters wouldn't know) but to guarantee Stigg is competative and nearly always wins regarless of the big engine, there is only one candidate, he fits the bill, even when at the height of his career he resembled the black stig, the one... the only...the Professor... Mr Hans Neilsen !

The Logistics, The Stigg tour takes in the majority of U.K tracks as required. A bit like the Briggo tour this year only more exciting. It would almost certainly be part of the SGP in Cardiff - Here he would race a former world champion or high profile rider depending on his commitment to the actual event. Beats Ruth Lorenzo and co...

Ok so it may be all a dream, and Hans maybe a bit too old to take on the role of Stigg, but what about Loramsky, Havelock, Adams ? All i know is when i ask my 8 year old Nephew if he wants to come down the Speedway to see the "Speedway Stigg" i think it would get his attention... He may even want to buy a Speedway Stigg T Shirt, Pen, Hat, Coat....£££££$$$$$$$$£££££££££££ and come back in the future when he has experienced our beloved sport first hand.

Like i said, may be all a pipe dream folks, but i would love to see ideas like this explored by the powers that be, i really would !

lol....Truly bonkers.................but I like it!!

I remember Hans Nielson came to Glasgow to do some match races against Kenny McKinna..the event was hyped to the max and I remember as a young kid being really excited about it.

I guess keeping the identity of the Speedway Stig would be nigh on impossible but having a 'pool' of stigs to choose from might keep people guessing.

Fun, promotional idea, made me laugh.

Would make a change and add something to attract the new generation ie "kids" a bit of mystery etc with a different celeb each time.

Can't be any worse than what the "promoters" are doing now!!!! Which is nowt basically. I know a few people at towns where there is a speedway team and the locals thought it ended years ago!!!

It does actually sound a very good idea, having a few different Stigs sounds interesting too.

I too can remember star riders to coming to our track for match races, in the 70s we had a Mauger v Olsen and the place was packed, mind you they were probably the biggest 2 names in speedway at the time, rather like Gollob v Crump now but doubled (at least).

Now there's an idea, Gollob as the Stig, after all he wouldn't have to speak would he??

Would certainly appeal to the kids more than that stupid blinking mole!!

but it's only a camera.icon_lol.gif But the way tatum goes on i think he's in love.wink.gif

This is an idea that sounds very good.

In fact it's too good for the clowns that run speedway.

you could evolve this though and not have the stig but if you know about the Harlem Globetrotters in basketball they are a treat to watch and great entertainment, now we could have our own speedway exhibitionist, riders doing donut, wheelies planned stunts (safely i must add) would be a great feature to fill in intervals.

could use recently retired riders !

Why not combine Speedway events with MX events?

Forget half time concerts by X-factor rejects, whny not have half an hour of MX stunts in the centre field? you could have one large jump in the middle and it would be a damn sight more exciting than a lacklustre field gun race.

Why not have speedway demos at MX events? you stick a dirt track (basically a long track) around the perimeter and at half time in the MX, you stick 4 riders going hell for leather. Generate a bit of cross-interest.

Good to see some folk coming up with some excellent ideas. Personally - I like the 'Stigg'. I'm sure that with a little thought and maybe, as has already been said, with more than one Stigg throught the Country, it COULD be made to work. The Rider wouldn't really need to be 'unknown' that wouldn't be an issue for me. I'm sure that, if this were put in to practice, advertised and the Stigg Rode Match Races against the top four Scorers in the Meeting, it would bring more people in to our emptying Stadia. :approve: :approve:
