Scunny Stag
From www.scunthorpespeedway.com Saints look to reproduce thriller The Jotun Paints Scunthorpe Saints take to the track for the final time in 2010 looking to reproduce the level of racing that made their last home match, against the Buxton Hitmen, one of the meetings of the season at the Eddie Wright Raceway. Of course Promoter Rob Godfrey is also hoping his young side can finish with a win after losing 50-43 to Buxton. “Newport are one of the league’s top sides but I think we’ll do better than against Buxton. For one thing they’ll be more home track advantage with the meeting not being the second part of a double-header. Scott Richardson is back in for Benji Compton and Benji only scored one point against Buxton. Whatever happens though there is no doubt the Saints will provide value for money”. “Ashley Birks, Steve Worrall and Richie Worrall hadn’t ridden a competitive meeting six months ago. Now look at them! They’ve all got a bright future in the sport whilst Buzz Burrows is the oldest rider in the leagues but was worth the admission money alone against Buxton. His battles with Simon Lambert in heats 13 and 15 were sensational races and there is plenty of talent in the Hornets line-up to give him and the rest of the side a stern test on Friday night “. Victory on Friday is unlikely to see the Saints climb above the Isle of Wight into seventh place (a 52-point win would be required) but would tie them on eighteen points with the Islanders. It would ensure they finish above Weymouth and, barring a change in fortunes for King’s Lynn, secure eighth spot. At the start of the season the Speedway Star pundits predicted a last place finish for the Saints but despite some close meetings at the Eddie Wright Raceway they have only lost on home shale twice (47-43 to Dudley and that Bank holiday defeat to Buxton). Friday’s meeting starts at 7.30pm and the Eddie Wright Raceway can be found just over a mile north of the town on the B1430 towards Burton-upon-Stather. The declared line-ups for Friday’s meeting are (English unless stated): Jotun Paints Scunthorpe Saints – 1. Gary Irving 2. Adam Wrathall, 3. Steve Worrall, 4. Scott Richardson, 5. Mark Burrows, 6. Richie Worrall, 7. Ashley Birks Newport Hornets – 1. Todd Kurtz (Australia), 2. Luke Priest, 3. Tim Webster, 4. Tony Atkin (Wales), 5. Kyle Newman, 6. James White-Williams (Wales), 7. Tom Young (Wales)

scunny1
June, are you able to give us any weather updates. Many thanks. Weather is currently cloudy with a strong drying wind with odd glimpses of the sun. Showers are forecast late evening so Ref should be pushing the meeting along quickly. The track is very quick to dry out and can stand a heavy downpour so get yourself here.
21st century heathen
Scunthorpe will have the extra backing of about 2,000 arm chair Heathens' fans tonight. C'mon lads, don't let your fans down.

C'mon lads, don't let your fans down. Do the Heathens depend on Newport getting "nul points" tonight to get into the ply-offs ? At the risk of being re-directed to another topic, what is the mathematical situation ? Quite apart from the League ramifications, a scan of the team sheets would suggest that a tight meeting is on the cards. If it's half as good as the Buxton thriller we should all be in for a treat ! willp
Do the Heathens depend on Newport getting "nul points" tonight to get into the ply-offs ? If Newport come away from tonight's match with no points then we'll finish top at the cut off for the play offs on Sunday and have pick of our opponents. gypilgrim
The Hornets were just too hot to handle for the Saints tonight. Only Irving and Birks really took the fight to the visitors, the rest of the Saints were off key. Great team performance from Newport, all seven riders contributing. Hope that Tony & Buzz are Ok after their falls. Distinct lack of info from the PA, so I don't know any details of their injuries.
Diesel
Another fantastic team performance from the Hornets, this time after losing their captain midway through. Well done, lads.
June
Well done Newport on your win......seems our Saints couldn't match their last weeks performance but nevertheless it was a decent meeting. Anyone know how Buzz is? hope he's not badly injured!....Ive read that Atkin is OK.
