Brummie Kev
Taken from the Brummies site: BIRMINGHAM Speedway will pay tribute to one of their favourite sons when they host the Joe Thurley Memorial Trophy at Perry Barr on Wednesday September 15. Thurley was club promoter in the 70s and was also clerk of the course when the sport returned to the city in 2007. More details and a full rider line-up will follow in due course, but in the meantime supporters are asked to email the speedway office with suggestions as to who they would like to see ride in this meeting - office@birminghamspeedway.co.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Great to see they have decided to run this, last nights meeting was due to be our last home meeting till the KOC semi with Newcastle on the 29th with Dudley riding here a few times. Its fantastic to see them listening to the fans concerns over this and it lets our riders get track time so they arnt race rusty at Perry Barr. Brummie Kev
PISZCZ RETURNS- :approve: TOMASZ Piszcz, one of the most popular riders ever to wear Birmingham colours, will make an emotional return to Perry Barr in the Joe Thurley Memorial Trophy next Wednesday, September 15. Piszcz, who won the Premier League Pairs title alongside Jason Lyons for Birmingham last season, has been frozen out of British racing this year but has accepted the invitation to return to the second city for the individual event. The event, in memory of Birmingham's former promoter and clerk of the course, will also feature comeback man Chris Kerr. The Californian suffered a broken leg in May and this meeting will be his first piece of action back at Perry Barr. Wolverhampton's Elite League star Ty Proctor is also included along with in-form Coventry man Ben Barker. And Dudley Heathens, who share Perry Barr as a home track, will also be represented with Lee Smart, Jake Anderson and Micky Dyer. Birmingham boss Graham Drury said: "It's a meeting which has attracted a superb line-up and we're looking forward to it. We asked fans for their suggestions in terms of who they would like to see and we have delivered the goods. I think every Birmingham fan wants to see Piszcz again."
