Ice Racing 2011

Recommended Posts

Too be honest it's really quite humiliating, i can't think of another 'organized' sport in the world that would lack a filmed record of it's World Final.

I am led to believe that BSI/IMG own the TV rights to World Championship Track Sport coverage (Speedway/Long Track/Ice Racing) as the FIM sold them in a package a few years back. The previous owner was a German company who did have a deal with Eurosport but it fell through, as one of the consortium was Thomas Schiffner who was involved with Bahnsport Aktuell.

But you are right about the lack of exposure for this sport.

The Assen club did record the meetings using Broadcast standard equipment for Dutch TV and there are two excellent quality DVDs available from them, but they are the only ones I know of.

Polish TV did show the Sanok QR round live and there are a couple of bootleg DVDs doing the rounds of that coverage.

With the right push, I'm sure The Ice Racing World Championship could attract the sort of audience of Speedway fans desperate for their winter fix on Sky.

This meeting ended in farce. The ice had broken up so badly that they couldn't run the finals. So the points were awarded on countback where there were ties. The Russian Forums are rife with enraged fans who think that Togliatti shouldn't be allowed a big meeting again.

Seppänen messed his gating twice and was forced to battle from the back. third time he nailed it and lead Järf for a lap. Malinen was also good, clear second.

Jouni Seppänen had problems with his clutch basket in Övik during the Swedish league meeting. It's good to see he was able to repair it in time for the Finnish final. :approve:

Friday night at Assen should be good with four National Champions doing battle: Koltakov, Divis, Strugala and now Mallinen!

Only a couple of weeks to go!

There was a mistake in my results, sure, but not THAT big!

Always Ian read it all the way through... B) I'll post it back in a few minutes...
