Sgp Challenge Final

Recommended Posts

Never thought Id see the day that Simon Stead was just 5 rides away from the GPs.

He's been there before: Vetlanda, 2006, when the qualifiers were Wieslaw Jagus, Rune Holta and Hans Andersen (who also qualified by finishing fifth in the GP series - interestingly, his qualification from Vetlanda was given priority and Jaroslaw Hampel's ninth place in the GPs was enough to qualify, although Andersen was given the No 5 race jacket).

Out of pure badness, I'd be quite happy to see Gapinski, Walasek and Kolodziej reply. It would surely cause chaos in the offices of BSI Speedway. Six Poles qualified for 2011 would leave them with some tough decisions to make. However, I deem that highly unlikely. I do hope that Kolodziej makes it as I believe he has really come of age this season.

Unless he qualifies, surely nobody seriously believes Harris DESERVES yet another wildcard? Even this season with Adams retiring, Sayfutdinov getting injured and the unfavoured Zetterstrom in the series (but a man who is there by merit) he is still only 12th. Add to that he has never ever qualfiied for the series.

The excuse that he tries hard should have gone out of the window after his first season 9th place, since then he has never looked likely to qualify by merit during the series.

Whatever you think of Tatum, he hit the nail on the head Monday night by saying Holta puts in the effort to qualify every season (whether in the series or a few times in the GP Challenge) knowing full well he would never ever get a wild card. Maybe British riders could benefit from this same attitude?

Maybe, maybe not. It depends on their character. If we take the example of Scott Nicholls, for example, we find a rider given the "wild card" opportunity this season and mustering just four points, whereas Hans Andersen in his first "wild card" appearance after being kicked out winning the Grand Prix. One thing seems certain, over the recent past knowing a nomination is a non-starter has given Holta the edge in those final few GPs, while the British riders have crumbled.

The official line-up seems to have survived injury withdrawals so

Score-As-You_View Race Card for 2011 SGP Challenge

As usual with the 'Score-As-You-View' Race Cards i produce it is colour coded and also contains relevant additional info. If you so wish you can fill in each riders accumalative score next to their name for each race (as well as traditional score grid). In order to make this quick and easy i've colour coded their next programmed ride. There are also various other bits of info.

I'll probably give a reminder tomorrow after practice for those looking at this thread for the first time.

Thank you for all your work with this. Makes it so much more interesting, watching the stream (i hope!) and filling in your programme. Kindest regards. Alan.

yes I believe as things stand and based on performances this season Chris Bomber Harris deserves a wilcard. It has been the same for all riders during previous years but imo Harris suffered more than most during the Olsen era due to his riding style (ie rubbish gating followed by dirt seeking board blasting).

He is on the top 8 pace along with Hancock, Pedersen, Lindgren, Jonsson... his machines have been competitive this season .... and he has been spectacular at times.... if I was IMG I would be trying my best to make sure that these 5 riders make it in for next season as the competition also needs to be about the best riders in the world

Bomber will most likely never win the world title just like he will most likely never gate well enough at this level...... but I would prefer the competition to have a certain level of racers in the field rather than the gating tart competition that Olsen was building

hopefully the issue will never be tested and Bomber qualifies either tomorrow or he gets himself in the top 8 :)

I am kinda torn here...I think that Chris has had his chances and failed far too many times to get given another gift, but I also think that he is the best that GB currently has to offer. So if BSI HAVE to give a gift to a Brit next year, then Chris should probably get one, but it's just getting ridiculous that he has needed them every year.

Last year was surely particularly humiliating for him....He gets given the Final on his home UK track (where any complaints about Ole track preps are irrelevant) and still ends up 5th, when only the top 3 get a place! I REALLY hope that he can deliver in Vojens, or it will just look silly if he gets given a place again...

Having said that, I think that Chris probably IS one of the top 15 in the World if you exclude Leigh Adams (which probably confirms that I think he is the 16th best rider in the World just now ;) ) but he needs to prove that in Vojens!!!

Purely based on entertainment value, I would hope that the top 3 in Vojens are Kolodziej, Harris and Laguta, with Iversen as my backup if any of them fail.

Sadly, I don't think that entertainment value will come into the equation at Vojens

The problem that BSI face is that they actually promote and risk their own money at Cardiff (and Vojens), and therefore if they can influence the attendance upwards at those meetings, not unnaturally, they will, hence we got

Bomber and Tai nominated last year. I think that BSI will be praying that they only have to nominate 1 Brit this year as the other one qualifies, but for me their actions seem to indicate that if they control it there will always be 2 Brits in the SGP.

If they are faced with having to nominate Emil, Nicki P, Jonsson, Lindgren etc it will be hard on any of them if they lose out because of BSIs commercial interests, but that may happen for 2011, as if no Brits qualify I beleive that only 2 other places would be available and surely they would go to Emil and Nicki P, assuming they both need to be nominated!

Harris has had his chance several times over. Hope he fails, and not from an unpatriotic point of view, but because he has been a virtual also ran nearly the whole time he has been in the series.

Give a wildcard to another Brit, wherther they are currently good enough or not. It will freshen the series and give another rider the opportunity to strive to be better.

I pray that some old Pole doesn't get through like Walasek or Ilamek. Kolodziej would be a good addition. No thanks to Iversen either. Been there never cut the mustard.

Fresh young blood please, regardless of nationality.
