There's already a meeting on Sunday 17th against the American touring team.

This has been postponed, 2pm on a saturday 8 races and then 20 heats is as many think not good news, even more so for me as Charlton have Brighton! but why 8 heats why not scrap it or stage it elsewhere on a different day? and then have the nlrc at 7pm as usual?

The point I'm making from often viewing the Met Office website from a period five days before a meeting is that if it says it'll be dry in five days time, it often as not changes to rain by a day or so before; and vice versa. So whatever may be typical in reality in October weather-wise, what is also typical is that it's all but pointless to be taking any advance notice (and by advance I mean five or four days before...) as to what the Met office site 'predicts'...!

Looking at the 4s line ups I really fancy this. Worryingly the weather forecast for tonight seems to have changed!

Exactly the point I was making!

All week it said rain Sunday but fine on Saturday. 21CH derided me for suggesting such a forecast wasn't worth the paper it was metaphorically printed on but that's in fact how it turned out to be..: with Saturday a wash out...

Run this past me again 21CH, why is it we should pay ANY attention to what the Met Office, er, "predicts"..?!

if you are running both events on the same day, a 2pm start should allow plenty of time to run a full 16 heat fours final and the nlrc.

Len wants it over early to give people a chance to get home for X-Factor :D

Very unfortunate these two meetings have been rained off, although no real surprise with the weather as its been. On the 4TT like many others have posted it’s a bit of a farce, well a mega farce. This meeting was postponed at Mildenhall on June 6th, nearly 4 months ago. It took two months before they re-arranged date and venue was announced. Why on earth leave a shared event until October? [Have to say unless it’s the Riders Championship] As a shared event, surely the NL clubs want as many people as possible to go through the turnstiles and boost the pot with some much needed extra £ notes for each NL club? For a meeting that was started in June this should have been re-run months ago.

I have to say I was looking forward to the NLRC. Traditionally the EL, PL & NL are one of those meetings that have generally been run towards the end of the season and for me long may it continue. The NLRC, a Saturday night speedway would be ideal but for some strange reason Len decided that a Sunday afternoon event was better. But then the rains came and is now running on the same day, all be it in the afternoon, as the Elite League Open at Peterborough in the evening. Personally I was so looking forward to the Peterborough meeting. Straight up the M11 after watching Dagenham & Redbrige playing Walsall. Was I expecting to see the World Champion plus the top boys who aren’t racing this year in the EL, some of the non riding EL GP stars like Hancock. Gollob, Holta or Crump? Yes I was. Are any non EL based riders riding, of course not! Will I be going to Peterborough? No.

My other concern is I can’t be two places at once. I have a season ticket at Dagenham & Redbridge, they have a match on the 16th at home, so that’s one less person who’ll be at Rye for the NL Fours and NLRC. Plus there are others that also go to football on a Saturday afternoon. Barnet and Watford Football Clubs are away –at Stockport and Portsmouth respectively- but probably Rye’s closest Football League team Stevenage are at home to Burton and I certainly know there will be speedway folk of Rye who will be at Stevenage FC! I find the timing of this meeting very strange.

Yes this post is a whinge I suppose but speedway really does shoot itself in the foot sometimes and I guess it always will! Hope the sun shines on October 16th, if it like it has been I wonder what they’ll do then?

Think you will find Watford are at home to Ipswich Town, and Charlton are at home to Brighton (where we also film each week) so I have to get someone else to film the Footy, unless the rain can come to my aid once more!

Bit 2pm on a Sunday is much more betetr than 2pm on Saturday, when many otehrs have to work as well.

Now I have read and chuckled about the comment re-x factor, and having had to see 10 mins of this on my return from Brentford yesterday, if this total dribble is a threat to our sport then Speedway really is in a bloody big mess.

All I can say is get our product right and nothing will be an opponent.

Am surprised someone with your knowledge of the game Ken can't work out that is HAS to be Saturday and not Sunday, as Sundays now are precious commodities if the play-offs and KOC are to be decided before the end of the month: with Buxton & Newport at least needing those dates to finish off matters.

Also, too much being made of the 4s retreating into an eight heat format...: after all IF the original event had been completed at Mildenhall it would (as has been the case for some years...) been this eight heat format for the 'Final'...

And IF it keeps raining from today to the day before the 16th. who knows there may be a dust-free race up until heat 3...!! 28 heats on a Saturday afternoon at Rye... I had said never again but I'll give it one more try!!

I think we are forgetting the riders with this 8 heat 4s final what riders want to travel long distances for 2 rides , none probably unless they are in the second meeting or are based locally..

Well yes, but one can say exactly the same about the original meeting. For four teams out of the original eight (the two each group who weren't to make it to the Final) they faced the certain prospect of travelling to a meeting for just two rides. I know plenty were not happy about it but that's the format; and if one joins a team and rides for them, then when push comes to shove on HAS to turn up and ride in these events...

Heavens above - less than a week to this big NL 'double-header-championship' and seemingly zero interest in the event(s) here on the BSF.

Notwithstanding that many NL posters may not be able to find this thread (so pushing it back to the top of the, er, Testimonials section MIGHT help...! ), maybe an indication on the line-up for the NLRC might encourage more interest...

Trouble is, I don't know WHAT the line-up is...! Does anyone..?!

Blimey, Ken are you STILL sore about this clash with the CAFC game..?!! Move on!!

It's the Buccs as opposed to IoW coz Bournemouth came third in Mildenhall's group in the curtailed semis.. The Islanders were in the other group!!

I shall be there and cheering on the Buccs, natch!!! :approve:

MMM You cheered on Crayford, you cheered on Wimbledon, you cheered on Sittingbourne, you cheered on Mildenhall and now the Buccs, all have a nasty link??? all going or gone, so my old mate, I do not want you cheering on Rye or IOW

Seriously though If someone like me who loves the sport has other things to do, what is the floating fan going to do?

many people work on a Sat pm or go to footy, (or bingo in your case hahaha), a sat eve is far better, not just for me, and 8 heats is a sham, will fans from Buxton or Bournemouth turn up for that? it is devaluing the tournament. Like I said I will go, and yes I will ahve to get someone else to cover Charlton, but someone else may just think they will go and watch posh and go to P'boro when they would have been at Rye (and I do know people who are doinge exactly this)

You and Uncle Len can rest easy, there's about as much chance of me ever "cheering on Rye" as there is of that place where Satan stokes the firey furnance being hit by a snow and ice weather warning!!:D
